    IMOCA: a Model-Based Code Generator for the Development of Multi-Platform Marine Embedded Systems

    International audienceProcess control systems embedded in disturbed environments are usually developed case by case for specific deployment platforms and their behaviours closely depend on the characteristics of the environ-ment. The obtained code is not portable and not reconfigurable. In order to help the software development of such applications, IMOCA offers ar-chitectural modelisation tools. The associated code generator allows to product adaptative and reconfigurable code for a simulator as well as embedded code for various platforms. This approach has been tested on NXT bricks, Arduino boards and Armadeus boards

    Adaptive Estimation of the Thermal Behavior of CPU-GPU SoCs for Prediction and Diagnosis

    International audienceThe Systems-on-Chip provide a large capacity for calculation and monitoring, so they are increasingly integrated into risky processes such as aeronautical and power generation systems. However, embedded systems are subject to degradation caused by wear, that can be accelerated by the often hostile environment. This paper proposes a method of failure prognosis of embedded systems based on the estimation of the temperature drift under reference operating conditions, then the modelling of the drift trend using a support vector regression model. The remaining useful life is estimated using the integral of the probability density function of the time to failure. Experimental results, evaluated by performance analysis techniques, show the effectiveness of the proposed approach

    Functional Validation of AADL Models via Model Transformation to SystemC with ATL

The AADL models represent electronic systems to be embedded into FPGAs. Our contribution allows for an early analytical estimation of energetic needs and a rapid SystemC simulation before implementation.     International audienceThis paper presents GRAI-ICE Model Driven Interoperability Architecture (MDI) which is developed based on MDA (Model Driven Architecture) of OMG and some initial works performed in INTEROP NoE. This MDI architecture aims at supporting the development of changeable on-demand and interoperable ESA (Enterprise Software Application). The architecture defined five modelling levels, i.e., Top CIM, Bottom CIM, Object oriented PIM, Pattern oriented PSM, and Component and configuration oriented CODE. This paper presents in detail core concepts and rational of each modeling level. An application example in nuclear equipment industry is outlined

    Stochastic and deterministic models for age-structured populations with genetically variable traits

    Understanding how stochastic and non-linear deterministic processes interact is a major challenge in population dynamics theory. After a short review, we introduce a stochastic individual-centered particle model to describe the evolution in continuous time of a population with (continuous) age and trait structures. The individuals reproduce asexually, age, interact and die. The 'trait' is an individual heritable property (d-dimensional vector) that may influence birth and death rates and interactions between individuals, and vary by mutation. In a large population limit, the random process converges to the solution of a Gurtin-McCamy type PDE. We show that the random model has a long time behavior that differs from its deterministic limit. However, the results on the limiting PDE and large deviation techniques \textit{\`a la} Freidlin-Wentzell provide estimates of the extinction time and a better understanding of the long time behavior of the stochastic process. This has applications to the theory of adaptive dynamics used in evolutionary biology.     Adaptive Pathways Using Emerging Technologies: Applications for Critical Transportation Infrastructure

    Hazards are becoming more frequent and disturbing the built environment; this issue underpins the emergence of resilience-based engineering. Adaptive pathways (APs) were recently introduced to help flexible and dynamic decision making and adaptive management. Especially under the climate change challenge, APs can account for stressors occurring incrementally or cumulatively and for amplified-hazard scenarios. Continuous records from structural health monitoring (SHM) paired with emerging technologies such as machine learning and artificial intelligence can increase the reliability of measurements and predictions. Thus, emerging technologies can play a crucial role in developing APs through the lifetimes of critical infrastructure. This article contributes to the state of the art by the following four ameliorations. First, the APs are applied to the critical transportation infrastructure (CTI) for the first time. Second, an enhanced and smart AP framework for CTI is proposed; this benefits from the resilience and sustainability of emerging technologies to reduce uncertainties. Third, this innovative framework is assisted by continuous infrastructure performance assessment, which relies on continuous monitoring and mitigation measures that are implemented when needed. Next, it explores the impact of emerging technologies on structural health monitoring (SHM) and their role in enhancing resilience and adaptation by providing updated information. It also demonstrates the flexibility of monitoring systems in evolving conditions and the employment of AI techniques to manage pathways. Finally, the framework is applied to the Hollandse bridge, considering climate-change risks.     The final Bachelor’s Thesis that is shown below has such a final purpose of giving an overview of the inclusion of the so-called Femtocells (or Home Node B) in the current cellular systems. The main objective is to give a clear but simple idea about the concepts of Femtocells, as well as to explain the benefits and disadvantages of the mass uses of these services both for consumers and associated companies with this phenomenon. In this text it is also possible to find a brief review of wireless technologies throughout the history of telecommunications, as well as an introduction to the more current wireless technologies, with a special interest in the concept of cellular systems. In the last chapter a simple mathematical explanation of the key issue of interference between Femtocells and macrocellular networks is presented, with a brief argument about possible solutions

    The Heterogeneity of MNC' Subsidiaries and Technology Spillovers: Explaining positive and negative effects in emerging economies

    Conventional models of multinational corporation (MNC) related spillovers in host economies assume that they derive from the technological assets created at the headquarters. Subsidiaries' activities in the host economy are not given any role in this process. In this paper, drawing on recent advances in MNC literature, we propose an alternative model. In this alternative model the local innovative activity of subsidiaries plays a critical role in accounting for both the possibility of positive or negative effects. More specifically, we distinguish between three types of subsidiaries: "competence creating", "competence exploiting" and passive; and explore conceptually and empirically the spillover effects of each type. Our results confirm our predictions that, in less advanced contexts such as India, only creative subsidiaries have a positive effect on host country firms; that competence exploiting subsidiaries generate negative effects when domestic firms are more advanced; and passive subsidiaries have no effects.     Asymmetric HMMs for online ball-bearing health assessments

    The degradation of critical components inside large industrial assets, such as ball-bearings, has a negative impact on production facilities, reducing the availability of assets due to an unexpectedly high failure rate. Machine learning- based monitoring systems can estimate the remaining useful life (RUL) of ball-bearings, reducing the downtime by early failure detection. However, traditional approaches for predictive systems require run-to-failure (RTF) data as training data, which in real scenarios can be scarce and expensive to obtain as the expected useful life could be measured in years. Therefore, to overcome the need of RTF, we propose a new methodology based on online novelty detection and asymmetrical hidden Markov models (As-HMM) to work out the health assessment. This new methodology does not require previous RTF data and can adapt to natural degradation of mechanical components over time in data-stream and online environments. As the system is designed to work online within the electrical cabinet of machines it has to be deployed using embedded electronics. Therefore, a performance analysis of As-HMM is presented to detect the strengths and critical points of the algorithm. To validate our approach, we use real life ball-bearing data-sets and compare our methodology with other methodologies where no RTF data is needed and check the advantages in RUL prediction and health monitoring.
