    Big Data Model Simulation on a Graph Database for Surveillance in Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks

    Sensors are present in various forms all around the world such as mobile phones, surveillance cameras, smart televisions, intelligent refrigerators and blood pressure monitors. Usually, most of the sensors are a part of some other system with similar sensors that compose a network. One of such networks is composed of millions of sensors connect to the Internet which is called Internet of things (IoT). With the advances in wireless communication technologies, multimedia sensors and their networks are expected to be major components in IoT. Many studies have already been done on wireless multimedia sensor networks in diverse domains like fire detection, city surveillance, early warning systems, etc. All those applications position sensor nodes and collect their data for a long time period with real-time data flow, which is considered as big data. Big data may be structured or unstructured and needs to be stored for further processing and analyzing. Analyzing multimedia big data is a challenging task requiring a high-level modeling to efficiently extract valuable information/knowledge from data. In this study, we propose a big database model based on graph database model for handling data generated by wireless multimedia sensor networks. We introduce a simulator to generate synthetic data and store and query big data using graph model as a big database. For this purpose, we evaluate the well-known graph-based NoSQL databases, Neo4j and OrientDB, and a relational database, MySQL.We have run a number of query experiments on our implemented simulator to show that which database system(s) for surveillance in wireless multimedia sensor networks is efficient and scalable

    Analysis methodology for flow-level evaluation of a hybrid mobile-sensor network

    Our society uses a large diversity of co-existing wired and wireless networks in order to satisfy its communication needs. A cooper- ation between these networks can benefit performance, service availabil- ity and deployment ease, and leads to the emergence of hybrid networks. This position paper focuses on a hybrid mobile-sensor network identify- ing potential advantages and challenges of its use and defining feasible applications. The main value of the paper, however, is in the proposed analysis approach to evaluate the performance at the mobile network side given the mixed mobile-sensor traffic. The approach combines packet- level analysis with modelling of flow-level behaviour and can be applied for the study of various application scenarios.     A Mobile Multimedia Data Collection Scheme for Secured Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks

    © 2013 IEEE. Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks (WMSNs) produce enormous amounts of big multimedia data. Due to large size, Multimedia Sensor Nodes (MSNs) cannot store generated multimedia data for a long time. In this scenario, mobile sinks can be utilized for data collection. However, due to vulnerable nature of wireless networks, there is a need for an efficient security scheme to authenticate both MSNs and mobile sinks. In this paper, we propose a scheme to protect an underlying WMSN during mobile multimedia data collection. The proposed scheme is a two-layer scheme. At the first layer, all MSNs are distributed into small clusters, where each cluster is represented by a single Cluster Head (CH). At the second layer, all CHs verify identities of mobile sinks before sharing multimedia data. Authentication at both layers ensures a secure data exchange. We evaluate the performance of proposed scheme through extensive simulation results. The simulation results prove that the proposed scheme performs better as compared to existing state-of-the-art approaches in terms of resilience and handshake duration. The proposed scheme is also analyzed in terms of authentication rate, data freshness, and packet delivery ratio, and has shown a better performance

    Game Theoretical Approach for Joint Relay Selection and Resource Allocation in Mobile Device Networks

    With the improvement of hardware, more and more multimedia applications are allowed to run in the mobile device. However, due to the limited radio bandwidth, wireless network performance becomes a critical issue. Common mobile solutions are based on the centralized structure, which require an access point to handle all the communication requirement in the work area. The transmission performance of centralized framework relies on the density of access points. But increasing the number of access points will cost lot of money and the interference between access point will reduce the transmission quality. Thanks to the wireless sensor network implementations, the distributed wireless network solution has been well studied. Now, many mobile network studies introduce the device to device idea which is a distributed structure of mobile network. Unlike wireless sensor networks, mobile networks have more movability and higher transmission speed requirement. In order to be used in mobile networks, a distributed network management algorithm needs to perform faster and more accurate. In this thesis, a new pairing algorithm is proposed to provide a better transmission quality for multimedia data. In the proposed approach, the multimedia data is quantized by distortion reduction. Then, the source-relay pairing solution is optimized by a history tracing system using game theory to improve the expected overall distortion reduction of the entire network. Several parameters are introduced in the proposed solution, so the optimization would fit for different situations. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm achieves higher overall distortion reduction by avoiding the competition between nodes. Simulation results also show the parameters would affect the system performance, such as optimization speed, system stability and system overall transmit speed

    A QoS-Based Wireless Multimedia Sensor Cluster Protocol

    Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) provide a wireless network infrastructure for sensed data transport in environments where wired or satellite technologies cannot be used. Because the embedded hardware of the sensor nodes has been improved very much in the last years and the number of real deployments is increasing considerably, they have become a reliable option for the transmission of any type of sensed data, from few sensed measures to multimedia data. This paper proposes a new protocol that uses an ad hoc cluster based architecture which is able to adapt the logical sensor network topology to the delivered multimedia stream features, guaranteeing the quality of the communications. The proposed protocol uses the quality of service (QoS) parameters, such as bandwidth, delay, jitter, and packet loss, of each type of multimedia stream as a basis for the sensor clusters creation and organization inside the WSN, providing end-to-end QoS for each multimedia stream.     Heterogeneous component interactions: Sensors integration into multimedia applications

    Resource-constrained embedded and mobile devices are becoming increasingly common. Since few years, some mobile and ubiquitous devices such as wireless sensor, able to be aware of their physical environment, appeared. Such devices enable proposing applications which adapt to user's need according the context evolution. It implies the collaboration of sensors and software components which differ on their nature and their communication mechanisms. This paper proposes a unified component model in order to easily design applications based on software components and sensors without taking care of their nature. Then it presents a state of the art of communication problems linked to heterogeneous components and proposes an interaction mechanism which ensures information exchanges between wireless sensors and software components
