Wagging the Long Tail: From Push to Pull to Create the Writing Center 2.0
Beginning with a series of speeches in early 2004 and culminating with publication of a Wired article Chris Anderson describes how the long tail effects current and future business models. Anderson later extended it into the book The Long Tail: Why the Future of Business is Selling Less of More.
The concept of frequency distribution with long tails has been studied by statisticians since the late 1940s. The distribution and inventory costs of businesses like Amazon.com, eBay.com and Netflix allow the realization of significant profits selling small volumes of hard-to-find items to many customers, versus selling large volumes of popular items. Customers who buy hard-to-find or "non-hit" items describe the demographic called the long tail.University Writing Cente

Global Innovations in Measurement and Evaluation
We researched the latest developments in theory and practice in measurement and evaluation. And we found that new thinking, techniques, and technology are influencing and improving practice. This report highlights 8 developments that we think have the greatest potential to improve evaluation and programme design, and the careful collection and use of data. In it, we seek to inform and inspire—to celebrate what is possible, and encourage wider application of these ideas
Effectiveness of Corporate Social Media Activities to Increase Relational Outcomes
This study applies social media analytics to investigate the impact of different corporate social media activities on user word of mouth and attitudinal loyalty. We conduct a multilevel analysis of approximately 5 million tweets regarding the main Twitter accounts of 28 large global companies. We empirically identify different social media activities in terms of social media management strategies (using social media management tools or the web-frontend client), account types (broadcasting or receiving information), and communicative approaches (conversational or disseminative). We find positive effects of social media management tools, broadcasting accounts, and conversational communication on public perception

The assessment of complex learning outcomes
The Engineering Professors' Council (EPC) produced an output standard in 2000 containing a setof 26 generic statements of what an engineering graduate should have an ability to tackle. In addition, Higher Education (HE) is concerned with the promotion of complex or advanced understanding of subject matter. This leads to complex learning outcomes, which need to be adequately assessed. Changing demands mean changing assessment practices. While good practice is being used in many cases, there is a need to ensure assessment stimulates complex learning. The article seeks to address these issues
