    The determinants of customer internet banking resistance and the role of mediating variables in Yemeni Universities

    Although internet banking has been widely adopted in developed countries, there is still a low percentage of internet banking adoption in Yemen, indicating a probable high resistance to internet banking. Hence, the objective of this research was to determine the direct predictors (attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavior control (PBC), credibility, trust, compatibility, self-efficacy and government support) of customer resistance, attitude, subjective norm, PBC and credibility towards internet banking. Additionally, this study examined the mediating effects of attitude, subjective norm, PBC, and credibility on the relationship between predictors and customer resistance to internet-banking behavior using Decomposed Theory of Planned Behavior (DTPB). A quantitative research survey was used whereby 900 questionnaires were distributed randomly to University employees. 451questionnaires were returned, representing a 50% response rate. After screening, 372 useable data sets were analyzed using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The study found five significant predictors of customer resistance (attitude, credibility, compatibility, selfefficacy, and government support); three significant factors predicting attitude (government support, subjective norm and PBC); two significant predictors of SN (government support and self-efficacy); two significant predictors of PBC (compatibility and self-efficacy); and three predictors of credibility (trust, government support and PBC). It was also found that attitude fully mediated the relationship between subjective norm and customer resistance as well as between PBC and customer resistance. Contrastingly, attitude was a partial mediator between the relationship of government support and customer resistance. Likewise, credibility is a full mediator on the relationship between trust and customer resistance; PBC and customer resistance. Credibility also partially mediated the relationship between government support and customer resistance. Finally, the study contributes empirically by validating DTBP as an effective underpinning theory in explaining the internet banking resistance and that government should enact more stringent laws and policies to control the internet banking in Yemen

    Understanding internet banking services and customer's adoption in Iraqi public universities

    There is no doubt that internet banking services adoption represents a good opportunity for developing nations to attain greater economic development and growth, where the creation of added value is driven by information, knowledge and the adoption of information and communications technology. Although a lot of researches provide evidence on the wide adoption of internet banking in developed nations, there are only limited researches in developing nations in the Middle East, specifically in Iraq. There is definitely a need in this country to identify the factors that could encourage and improve the understanding of internet banking services adoption. There is also a paucity of empirical researches on internet banking services adoption from the perspective of customers. Taking these into cognizance, this quantitative research aims to understand internet banking services adoption, by investigating the key factors that encourage customers to adopt internet banking in the Iraqi context, using the decomposed theory of planned behavior. The research framework consists of eighteen latent variables, fourteen exogenous variables (perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, compatibility, trust, social recommendation, prestigious media, self-efficacy, government support, technology support, internet technology literacy, resistance to technology, perceived risk of technology, anxiety about technology and information on technology); and four endogenous variables (internet banking adoption, attitude, subjective norms and perceived behavioral control). In order to test the framework, a quantitative approach using the survey method is employed consisting of eighty two items with a seven-point Likert scale. Based on proportionate stratified random sampling, 535 out of 800 employees submitted completed questionnaires suitable for analysis (a 66.8% response rate). Findings of this study reveal that all the research hypotheses are supported except three, namely subjective norms, perceived behavioral control and information on technology towards internet banking services adoption, implying that the decomposed theory of planned behavior is an applicable underpinning theory for clarifying the important antecedents of internet banking services adoption in the Iraqi context

    Banking Information Success Acceptance: An Empirical Evaluation

    Extending the technology acceptance model, we present a two-level analysis to empirically evaluate the acceptance of business information systems in customer-based retail banking.  Utilizing survey data from a representative banking group in a representative international financial center, regression analysis first indicated that end-user satisfaction, usage and acceptance depend significantly on the system’s perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use and expected ability to meet customer information requirements. In turn, these perceptual-anticipatory considerations were found to be positively and significantly affected by technical-functional factors in the form of user-friendliness and system reliability.  For the corporate strategist, our empirical results suggest enhancing perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness and ability to meet customer information needs in order of importance when introducing or up-grading information systems in retail banking and other service-based business activities

    An empirical investigation of smartphone technology acceptance among Universiti Utara Malaysia students

    This study investigated smartphone technology acceptance among Universiti Utara Malaysian (UUM) students by using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). The rapid diffusion of computer technology into smartphone increases smartphone penetration among Universiti Utara Malaysia students. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship of Perceived Ease of Use (PEU) and Perceived Usefulness (PU) as independent variables, and Attitude (ATT) and Behavioural intention (BI) as dependent variables on Smartphone Technology Acceptance among Universiti Utara Malaysia students. In addition, in this research Gender was used as a moderator to test the relationship between Attitude (ATT) and Behavioural intention (BI). In order to collect data a total of 500 questionnaires were distributed to (UUM) final year and postgraduate students in three colleges COB, CAS and COLGIS. The hypothesis results showed that there was a significant relationship among the four variables except Gender. This was because Gender failed to moderate in explaining the relationship between Attitude (ATT) and Behavioural intention (BI). On the other hand the statistical result showed that there was partial mediation effect of Perceived Usefulness (PU) on the relationship between Perceived Ease (PEU) of Use and Attitude (ATT) on Smartphone Technology Acceptance among Universiti Utara Malaysian students. Furthermore the researcher found that there was a significant relationship between both the dependent variables - Attitude (ATT) and Behavioural intention (BI) on smartphone technology acceptance among UUM students. The overall finding showed that technology advancement and breakthrough design of smartphone technology are the key factors that attract Universiti Utara Malaysia students to accept smartphone technology. On the other hand, usefulness and ease of use of the smartphone technology play important roles in influencing (UUM) students to have the intention to use smartphone technology in accomplishing their personal tasks. This is because the usefulness of smartphone technology with promising results makes (UUM) students rely heavily on this device

    Internet Banking: An Empirical Study Of Adoption Rates Among Midwest Community Banks

    As the internet becomes more important for commerce, internet websites are playing a more central role in most companies' business plans. The success of internet banking is determined not only by banks or government support, but also by customers' acceptance of it. Online banking acceptance has gained special attention in academic studies during the past several years as banks move toward implementing internet banking as part of their overall strategy. The business benefit of internet banking is to generate additional revenue, improve customer service, extend marketing, and increase cost savings. In accepting the internet and maximizing its potential, there are several stages that firms evolve through that involve different roles. These different stages of changes are reflected in the many levels that are present when firms go through the adaptation of new technology, including internet banking. From the literature review, some key questions were identified, especially to what extent banks should modify their internet services for customers. The aim of this paper was to identify those areas in which the banks could improve or modify their services to increase the adoption rate of internet banking. Data were gathered from non-internet banking users via a survey questionnaire. The results of the respondents were analyzed using Structured Equation Modeling (SEM) from which the hypotheses were tested and conclusions drawn. The results from the survey indicated that customers find it difficult to use internet banking services, which leads to a decrease in the adoption of internet banking

    The Relationship Between Information and Communication Technologies and Country Governance: An Exploratory Study

    In this exploratory study we investigate the relationship between information and communication technologies (ICTs) and country-level governance. We include in our framework the five factors of ICTs: access, quality, affordability, applications and institutional efficiency & sustainability. Governance indicators include voice and accountability, political stability and absence of violence, government effectiveness, regulatory quality, rule of law, and control of corruption. Using secondary data on ICTs and governance indicators for countries from the World Bank, and controlling for the wealth effect, our main multivariate result indicates that ICTs—with the exception of the institutional efficiency and sustainability factor—have a positive relationship with governance indicators. ICTs therefore, have the potential to promote good governance. We also find that accessibility is the most important ICTs’ factor to enhance governance. Our results are useful in shaping policy decisions involving the nature and extent of investment in ICT infrastructure at the country level

    Determinants of accounting information technology usage in Nigerian banking sector

    Banks in Nigeria have increased their investment in the Information System (IS) as a fundamental e-banking tool, capable of yielding significant contributions to their financial income especially in cost efficiency. However, investment in Accounting Information Technology (AIT) is less effective due to many users complain of persistent systems failures, technical issues, lack of system stability, fraud and security challenges. Therefore, the main purpose of this study is to investigate the determinants of AIT usage in the Nigerian banking sector. Specifically, the study examines the influence of system quality, information quality, service quality, internal control quality, training and top management support on AIT usage. It also investigates the moderating effect of an external consultant involvement on the relationship between the system quality and usage of AIT. A cross-sectional survey was employed for data collection. A questionnaire was distributed to 571 samples, and 257 valid responses were obtained from regional or branch managers, and account managers of the banks. Partial Least Square path modeling was used in analyzing the relationship between the determinants and AIT usage as well as the moderating effect of an external consultant involvement between system quality and AIT usage. The findings from the direct relationship reveals that system quality, information quality, and internal control quality has a significant positive relationship with AIT usage, but service quality, training, and top management support has insignificant negative relationship. Furthermore, the result of the moderating effect reveals that the external consultant involvement significantly moderates the relationship of the system quality, information quality, and service quality with AIT usage. The outcomes of this study provides another insight to the banks’ management with specific factors that they can leverage to improve the usage of the AIT thereby realizing the expected benefit of their investment

    Good Governance Practices in E-Recruitment Adoption in Nigerian Public Service

    The global clamour for good governance in the conduct of public affairs warranted some Nigeria public sector organisations to adopt technology as their recruitment strategy for transparency, accountability, responsiveness, accessibility and efficient service delivery. The introduction of electronic government forces some public organisations to jettison conventional recruitment strategy in favour of electronic recruitment. But different individuals and groups complaint of discrepancies emanated from the conduct of e-recruitment exercise in Nigerian public service. This study investigated the applicability of good governance dimensions in the conduct e-recruitment in some selected Nigerian public sector organisations. Quantitative and qualitative methods were used to collect data from the two selected organisations in line with research questions. After preliminary data screening, 326 questionnaires were used in quantitative data analysis while about 13 respondents were interviewed. Regression analysis was used to analyse responses generated from the questionnaires while thematic analysis was used to analyse the data recorded from interviews. This study empirically tested 13 hypotheses out of which 9 are supported and 4 are not supported. It indicates significance relationship between e-recruitment adoption and the good governance practices. It also found that e-recruitment adoption mediates the relationship between perceived trust and perceived quality with good governance practices. The results further reveals that an increase in R2 when mediator is added from R2 =.203 to R2 =.356 becomes one of the contributions to theory and practices. Furthermore, results from qualitative findings reveals that undue political influence, institutional problems, monetizing e-recruitment, poor accessibility and distorted selection procedures impinge the realisation of good governance in e-recruitment adoption. The study concludes that government should put effective institutional framework in motion that will enhance the quality of good governance in e-recruitment in Nigerian public service
