You’ve probably heard this question since you first learned to talk: “What do want to be when you grow up?”
Maybe you’ve known the answer for years, or maybe you’re still figuring it out. If the answer isn’t apparent to
you, try asking a different question: “What problem do you want to solve?” That’s the question that has inspired
inventors, entrepreneurs, and leaders, and it can help you find your passion
Does bank regulation help customers?
The answer, says Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia President Anthony Santomero, is yes, no, and maybe. Yes, the government must absorb some of the risks inherent in the banking system in order to maintain the system's stability. No, regulations that ignore the self-interested reactions of both bankers and their customers will not serve those customers well. And maybe, bank regulations, in principle, can help if they increase competition or the flow of information. In practice, however, some regulations designed to improve the quality of information have met with mixed success. President Santomero suggests that focusing on improving both financial literacy and information disclosure might be more productive.Banks and banking ; Bank supervision
Maybe An Answer Is In There: Life Story In Dialogue
Thesis (Ph.D.) University of Alaska Fairbanks, 2010This dissertation explores the ways in which Gwich'in women's lives have changed over the past century through the life story and historical and cultural reflections of Vera Englishoe, a Neets'qii Gwich'in woman in her late 50s from Venetie and Fort Yukon. Vera's story illustrates one woman's pathway through changing times and provides an example of resilience in the face of family and community turmoil. This work also shows how Vera uses stories to sustain herself and others amid dialogues that challenge Gwich'in identity and how the Gwich'in approach to knowledge, understanding, and stories emphasize personal experience and accountability, promotes independent thinking on the part of the listener and acknowledges ambiguity and multiplicity in meaning. Through Vera's dialogue we see how stories of personal experience are offered to help others understand their own experiences and how putting stories into writing can be an extension of this tradition. Vera hopes her stories will remind people of the strength of Gwich'in culture and community and that they help others with similar experiences: that "maybe an answer is in there." In this work I employ a dialogic approach to reading Vera's stories because this comes closest to Vera's and Gwich'in ideas about how knowledge and understanding is gained and passed on through stories. Each person's experiences lead them to engage in the dialogue differently and thus find their own understanding. Offering a story acknowledges the ambiguity of understanding and the fluidity of storytelling and story listening. Through exploring multiple discourses and providing a "reading" instead of an interpretation of Vera's narrative I hope that "maybe something is in there" that will help others understand Vera's words. Vera's approach to her life story illustrates a way of using life stories not simply to record culture and history, but to engage others in a broader attempt to create and reinforce shared meaning and identity. This requires a way of looking at the collaborative process in the production of life histories that emphasizes continuing dialogues and negotiated meanings between all parties
Path to Lasting Peace
Maybe many a time you looked at clock and realized passing time as normal or according to Einstein or Heisenberg theory have a deeper view about time and place acting. I was thinking about this great acting as you and always foul I'm closed and prisoned by this acting and as I researched about fundamental science I found a different and deeper view about affections of this acting. If I guess true you are thinking about coherency of peace and place and time. Before answer, I want ask a question. What acting can affect in putting out a lasting peace? There are different theories that I believe discussing about them just waste your time. I think peace means creating a certain sphere for all creatures. Where of humankind is one of the most affective and destructive kind of creations. Lasting peace appears when everybody do what benefits itself even it's obverse even it's surroundings. Maybe you understood the answer, maybe still thinking. By the way I recommend you to read main paper, because it is simple abstracted and can't be more abstracted, because maybe lose some points
Stabilization of radiation pressure dominated accretion disks by viscous fluctuations
The standard thin accretion disk model has been successfully used to explain
the soft X-ray spectra of Galactic black hole systems and perhaps the UV
emission of Active Galactic Nuclei. However, radiation pressure dominated disks
are known to be viscously unstable and should produce large amplitude
oscillations that are typically not observed. Instead, these sources exhibit
stochastic variability which may naturally arise due to viscous fluctuations in
a turbulent disk. Here we investigate whether these aperiodic viscous
fluctuations can stabilize the inner radiation pressure dominated disks and
hence maybe the answer to a forty year old problem in accretion disk theory.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures; accepted to Astronomy and Astrophysic

A Call for New Criminal Justice Values
Who are we? Ever since we could ponder such a question, we have looked to philosophers, theologians, and scientists for answers. And yet, maybe we don't need to apprehend the heavens or dissect the atom to understand our inner nature. Maybe the answer is simpler: we are what we value.
Accordingly, this paper seeks to answer the question: what does American criminal justice reveal about what we value and who we are? I first explain why our criminal justice values are so intertwined with our identity. I then briefly discuss the historical backdrop of the current values underlying criminal justice. And finally, I provide a revised set of values and argue that they better reflect who we are today
Why We Need Fats and Carbohydrates
If you are confused about the real roles of carbohydrates and fats in your family\u27s diet, maybe these facts will help answer some of your questions
Elusive Causation
David Lewis claimed that knowledge is elusive. "That is how knowledge is elusive. Examine it, and straightway it vanishes..." He argued that epistemology robs us of our knowledge: "Maybe epistemology is the culprit. Maybe the extraordinary pastime robs us of our knowledge. Maybe we do know a lot in daily life; but maybe when we look hard at our knowledge it goes away." The aim of this paper is to answer the question: might causation be elusive in a similar sense to that in which knowledge has been claimed to be elusive? Might there be pastimes that rob us of causation too? I will argue for a contextual account of causation and present detailed mechanisms for fixing truth values from the context
