This research work starts from the analysis of the text 'Phenomenology of perception' by Maurice Merleau-Ponty: starting from a synthetic premise about perception as a way of being-in-the-world, it continues paying attention to the body, in the body-world relationship in which the human being lives. Finally, in the last chapter, the corporeality in childhood is analyzed, taken from the lessons given by Maurice Merleau-Ponty

    Interviews With Maurice Merleau-Ponty

In 2016, a collection of previously unreleased audio-recorded interviews and dialogues with phenomenological philosopher Maurice Merleau-Ponty were transcribed and published in French in Entretiens avec Georges Charbonnier: et autres dialogues, 1946-1959. Here, to my knowledge, I have translated three of those interviews into English for the very first time. Given that these interviews were recorded for broadcast to the general public, they provide an accessible entry point into some of the thoughts of Merleau-Ponty. The first interview that I have translated is Merleau-Ponty explaining his research in Philosophy. The second interview discusses Husserl, the concept of lived experience, and the discipline of phenomenology. The third interview is about praxis and how philosophy is engaged in the world. Following the three interviews is an original essay expanding upon some of the concepts introduced in the interviews, especially those in conversation with Merleau-Ponty’s Phenomenology of Perception

Entreaberto-Entrefechado: herança maldita do conceito de comunicação

This paper discusses a debate that is common in the social sciences and in philosophy, but has not yet received an adequate treatment in the field of communication. This is the debate about the opening and the closure of consciousness and of systems, which is an epistemological attitude that underlies the concept of communication, notwithstanding the lack of a theoretical foundation. The paper deals with that debate by means of Niklas Luhmann’s theory of social systems, the cybernetics of Heinz von Foerster and the philosophies of Jürgen Habermas, Gilles Deleuze and Maurice Merleau-Ponty. It is divided into nine topics and ends with a summary and a short conclusion on the present state of the theoretical debate.

This text pays tribute to the French philosopher Maurice Merleau-Ponty, celebrating his 100th anniversary. It demonstrates how his work, starting off as a consequence of Edmund Husserl’s phenomenology, ends up by assuming a specific configuration which comes as the result of an elaboration of the existentialist aspects of Husserl’s phenomenology together with a growing interest towards the study of perception, and particularly keen on visual perception, as a way to override some of the dichotomies of modern philosophy.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

‘In the game’? Embodied subjectivity in gaming environments

Human-computer interactions are increasingly using more (or all) of the body as a control device. We identify a convergence between everyday bodily actions and activity within digital environments, and a trend towards incorporating natural or mimetic form of movement into gaming devices. We go on to reflect on the nature of player ‘embodiment’ in digital gaming environments by applying insights from the phenomenology of Maurice Merleau-Ponty. Three conditions for digital embodiment are proposed, with implications for Calleja’s (2011) Player Involvement Model (PIM) of gaming discussed
