    Challenges of Managing a Network Business

    This study aims at identifying and analysing the key challenges in managing a network business. The starting point of the paper is the alleged need for new kinds of theoretical frameworks which take into account value creation situations businesses face today. Hence, this paper introduces the value co-production framework as an alternative perspective to the existing approaches built in the industrial era (i.e., value chain thinking). This framework elevates knowledge and relationships in the locus of business and argues for reconfiguration of roles, actions, and interactions among the networked actors. Based on our study on a network-like, two years old joint venture firm, we demonstrate how the value co-production framework functions in practice. Moreover, we suggest that the future management competence lies in company’s ability to manage interactions, not individuals or individual companies. Thus, studying different kinds of network approaches in relation to proposed framework would give a deeper understanding of the ways by which networks and relationships drive value co-production

    An investigation of network security management methods

    Network Management (NM) is concerned with reducing complexity and managing cost. The traditional NM tools and techniques are based on the Open System Interconnection (OSI) NM model. However, several drawbacks have been identified when managing a network using traditional NM tools (Sarkar & Verma, 2001). Network security is a major issue when managing a network. Even though the technology assists to reduce security risks, unless properly managed, the security measures may not do the job as expected. The State Model (SM) diagram is a new method, which may assists in managing the network. This new method may provide functionality not currently offered by current NM tools. Furthermore it may be possible to integrate the SM with NM tools. SM diagrams integrate relevant output from devices with protocol finite state information by means of tables. The diagrams are modular and hierarchical thereby providing top down decomposition by means of levelling. Furthermore, their modular, hierarchical characteristics allow technical detail to be introduced in an integrated and controlled manner. The State Model Diagrams were evaluated as a network management tool by twenty participants. The results clearly demonstrated that these diagrams could be of value not only as a NM tool but also as a tool for network security management

    The efficient exploitation of the CERN accelerator complex in the future, with new cycles to fill the LHC and possibly a dedicated neutrino cycle in addition to the actual fixed-target program, will require a rapid and coordinated response to adapt to the changing user requests. This paper reviews the general sequencing problem and describes some preliminary concepts and algorithms suitable for managing a network of accelerators. The benefits derived from the architecture that has already been implemented in the PS complex, since its start up in March, are presented. The last accelerator in the injector chain, the SPS, is currently running fixed super-cycles. Its event-based timing system will be integrated into the central control by the year 2001 in a way that is transparent to the SPS equipment

Previous expert systems for managing networks have focused on managing network faults after they occur. However, this proactive expert system can monitor and control network components in near real time. The ability to directly manage network elements from the C Language Integrated Production System (CLIPS) is accomplished by the integration of the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) and a Abstract Syntax Notation (ASN) parser into the CLIPS artificial intelligence language

    Health information technology is a core infrastructure for the chronic care model, integrated care, and other organized care delivery models. From the provider perspective, health information exchange (HIE) helps aggregate and share information about a patient or population from several sources. HIE technologies include direct messages, transfer of care, and event notification services. From the patient perspective, personal health records, secure messaging, text messages, and other mHealth applications may coordinate patients and providers. Patient-reported outcomes and social media technologies enable patients to share health information with many stakeholders, including providers, caregivers, and other patients. An information architecture that integrates personal health record and mHealth applications, with HIEs that combine the electronic health records of multiple healthcare systems will create a rich, dynamic ecosystem for patient collaboration
