Le notevoli perplessità e resistenze alla introduzione delle CAM come insegnamenti nel Corso di Laurea in Medicina e Chirurgia, da parte della Conferenza Permanente dei Presidenti dei Corsi di Laurea Magistrale in Medicina e Chirurgia, non originano affatto da atteggiamenti conservatori o di pregiudiziale chiusura, ma da considerazioni più consistenti sulla natura stessa della formazione universitaria

A safe transoral surgical approach to parapharyngeal tumor arising from deep lobe of parotid gland

The management of parapharyngeal tumor is surgical, but the approach remains a challenge. Attention should be paid to avoidance intra-operative bleeding or cranial nerves damage. We report a case of a 67-year-old male complaining of left-ear fullness. A submucosal mass arising from the lateral wall of oropharynx on the left side was observed. Magnetic resonance imaging detected a mass arising from the parotid gland, in particular from the deep lobe, and a fine needle biopsy was compatible with "Warthin tumor." We performed a mini-invasive transoral approach under magnification, previous isolation of homolateral vessels. The decision on which surgical approach to be used is determined by site, size vascularity, and histology of the tumor. A literature review of the main surgical approaches was performed. We performed a combined transoral dissection under magnification with cervicotomic exposure of the neck vascular bundle allowing to dissect the tumor and manage any intra-operative complications

Metastatic tumors to the stomach: clinical and endoscopic features.

AIM: To evaluate the clinical and endoscopic patterns in a large series of patients with metastatic tumors in the stomach. METHODS: A total of 64 patients with gastric metastases from solid malignant tumors were retrospectively examined between 1990 and 2005. The clinicopathological findings were reviewed along with tumor characteristics such as endoscopic pattern, location, size and origin of the primary sites. RESULTS: Common indications for endoscopy were anemia, bleeding and epigastric pain. Metastases presented as solitary (62.5%) or multiple (37.5%) tumors were mainly located in the middle or upper third of stomach. The main primary metastatic tumors were from breast and lung cancer and malignant melanoma. CONCLUSION: As the prognosis of cancer patients has been improving gradually, gastrointestinal (GI) metastases will be encountered more often. Endoscopic examinations should be conducted carefully in patients with malignancies, and endoscopic biopsies and information on the patient's clinical history are useful for correct diagnosis of gastric metastases

Le carriere universitarie tra successo formativo, abbandono, cambio di corso e ritardo. Un'analisi per coorte attraverso gli archivi dell'Ateneo di Padova [Technical Report Series, 1/2011]

In questo lavoro si intendono specificare e quantificare i fenomeni di drop-out (abbandono e cambio di Corso) e di ritardo nelle Laureee triennali di ordinamento ex D.M. 509/1999, a partire da dati amministrativi, adottando il punto di vista del Corso di laurea. L'obiettivo è classificare i vari Corsi di laurea sulla base delle performance dei loro iscritti, al fine di identificare delle strategie mirate di intervento di contrasto alla dispersione. Lo studio coinvolge le coorti di studenti immatricolati negli anni accademici 2001-2005 in ottantaquattro Corsi di laurea triennale dell’Ateneo di Padova. Le misure della dispersione sono ricavate attraverso Multiple-decrement life tables; a partire da esse si costruiscono graduatorie di performance dei Corsi

The work aims to illustrate the design and the first results of a survey which involved 1849 university professors who were teaching courses at Bachelor's and Master's Degrees of University of Padova during the academic year 2012/13. The research is part of a project of improvement of the academic educational innovation and the quality of academic teaching. The data was directly obtained using a CAWI questionnaire which was distributed to the whole teaching staff, and it was linked to administrative data related to the educational offer and students’ evaluation of teaching in the same academic year. The results were summarized using some indicators which showed the diffusion of good practices of teaching, support needs, beliefs, interest and availability of the respondents. We identified sub-groups of potential participants for the qualitative phase of the research and subjects to involve in different and integrated activities directed to develop teachers’ professional competences

Il presente lavoro mira all'acquisizione di conoscenze specifiche in ordine all'offerta formativa al fine di migliorare la programmazione didattica delle Facoltà dell'Università degli Studi di Foggia. Si analizzeranno: 1. le preferenze degli studenti distinti in base al genere per Facoltà e i diversi corsi di laurea; 2. la distribuzione degli immatricolati e laureati per Facoltà e corso di laurea dall'a.a. 1999 all'a.a. 2007; 3. la situazione occupazionale dei laureati dell'Università di Foggia.
