Locality and Structure Regularized Low Rank Representation for Hyperspectral Image Classification
Hyperspectral image (HSI) classification, which aims to assign an accurate
label for hyperspectral pixels, has drawn great interest in recent years.
Although low rank representation (LRR) has been used to classify HSI, its
ability to segment each class from the whole HSI data has not been exploited
fully yet. LRR has a good capacity to capture the underlying lowdimensional
subspaces embedded in original data. However, there are still two drawbacks for
LRR. First, LRR does not consider the local geometric structure within data,
which makes the local correlation among neighboring data easily ignored.
Second, the representation obtained by solving LRR is not discriminative enough
to separate different data. In this paper, a novel locality and structure
regularized low rank representation (LSLRR) model is proposed for HSI
classification. To overcome the above limitations, we present locality
constraint criterion (LCC) and structure preserving strategy (SPS) to improve
the classical LRR. Specifically, we introduce a new distance metric, which
combines both spatial and spectral features, to explore the local similarity of
pixels. Thus, the global and local structures of HSI data can be exploited
sufficiently. Besides, we propose a structure constraint to make the
representation have a near block-diagonal structure. This helps to determine
the final classification labels directly. Extensive experiments have been
conducted on three popular HSI datasets. And the experimental results
demonstrate that the proposed LSLRR outperforms other state-of-the-art methods.Comment: 14 pages, 7 figures, TGRS201
KCRC-LCD: Discriminative Kernel Collaborative Representation with Locality Constrained Dictionary for Visual Categorization
We consider the image classification problem via kernel collaborative
representation classification with locality constrained dictionary (KCRC-LCD).
Specifically, we propose a kernel collaborative representation classification
(KCRC) approach in which kernel method is used to improve the discrimination
ability of collaborative representation classification (CRC). We then measure
the similarities between the query and atoms in the global dictionary in order
to construct a locality constrained dictionary (LCD) for KCRC. In addition, we
discuss several similarity measure approaches in LCD and further present a
simple yet effective unified similarity measure whose superiority is validated
in experiments. There are several appealing aspects associated with LCD. First,
LCD can be nicely incorporated under the framework of KCRC. The LCD similarity
measure can be kernelized under KCRC, which theoretically links CRC and LCD
under the kernel method. Second, KCRC-LCD becomes more scalable to both the
training set size and the feature dimension. Example shows that KCRC is able to
perfectly classify data with certain distribution, while conventional CRC fails
completely. Comprehensive experiments on many public datasets also show that
KCRC-LCD is a robust discriminative classifier with both excellent performance
and good scalability, being comparable or outperforming many other
state-of-the-art approaches
A Non-Local Structure Tensor Based Approach for Multicomponent Image Recovery Problems
Non-Local Total Variation (NLTV) has emerged as a useful tool in variational
methods for image recovery problems. In this paper, we extend the NLTV-based
regularization to multicomponent images by taking advantage of the Structure
Tensor (ST) resulting from the gradient of a multicomponent image. The proposed
approach allows us to penalize the non-local variations, jointly for the
different components, through various matrix norms with .
To facilitate the choice of the hyper-parameters, we adopt a constrained convex
optimization approach in which we minimize the data fidelity term subject to a
constraint involving the ST-NLTV regularization. The resulting convex
optimization problem is solved with a novel epigraphical projection method.
This formulation can be efficiently implemented thanks to the flexibility
offered by recent primal-dual proximal algorithms. Experiments are carried out
for multispectral and hyperspectral images. The results demonstrate the
interest of introducing a non-local structure tensor regularization and show
that the proposed approach leads to significant improvements in terms of
convergence speed over current state-of-the-art methods
Unsupervised spectral sub-feature learning for hyperspectral image classification
Spectral pixel classification is one of the principal techniques used in hyperspectral image (HSI) analysis. In this article, we propose an unsupervised feature learning method for classification of hyperspectral images. The proposed method learns a dictionary of sub-feature basis representations from the spectral domain, which allows effective use of the correlated spectral data. The learned dictionary is then used in encoding convolutional samples from the hyperspectral input pixels to an expanded but sparse feature space. Expanded hyperspectral feature representations enable linear separation between object classes present in an image. To evaluate the proposed method, we performed experiments on several commonly used HSI data sets acquired at different locations and by different sensors. Our experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms other pixel-wise classification methods that make use of unsupervised feature extraction approaches. Additionally, even though our approach does not use any prior knowledge, or labelled training data to learn features, it yields either advantageous, or comparable, results in terms of classification accuracy with respect to recent semi-supervised methods
Differential response to acute low dose radiation in primary and immortalized endothelial cells
Purpose : The low dose radiation response of primary human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) and its immortalized derivative, the EA.hy926 cell line, was evaluated and compared.
Material and methods: DNA damage and repair, cell cycle progression, apoptosis and cellular morphology in HUVEC and EA.hy926 were evaluated after exposure to low (0.05-0.5 Gy) and high doses (2 and 5 Gy) of acute X-rays.
Results : Subtle, but significant increases in DNA double-strand breaks (DSB) were observed in HUVEC and EA.hy926 30 min after low dose irradiation (0.05 Gy). Compared to high dose irradiation (2 Gy), relatively more DSB/Gy were formed after low dose irradiation. Also, we observed a dose-dependent increase in apoptotic cells, down to 0.5 Gy in HUVEC and 0.1 Gy in EA.hy926 cells. Furthermore, radiation induced significantly more apoptosis in EA.hy926 compared to HUVEC.
Conclusions : We demonstrated for the first time that acute low doses of X-rays induce DNA damage and apoptosis in endothelial cells. Our results point to a non-linear dose-response relationship for DSB formation in endothelial cells. Furthermore, the observed difference in radiation-induced apoptosis points to a higher radiosensitivity of EA.hy926 compared to HUVEC, which should be taken into account when using these cells as models for studying the endothelium radiation response
Building Footprint Generation Using Improved Generative Adversarial Networks
Building footprint information is an essential ingredient for 3-D
reconstruction of urban models. The automatic generation of building footprints
from satellite images presents a considerable challenge due to the complexity
of building shapes. In this work, we have proposed improved generative
adversarial networks (GANs) for the automatic generation of building footprints
from satellite images. We used a conditional GAN with a cost function derived
from the Wasserstein distance and added a gradient penalty term. The achieved
results indicated that the proposed method can significantly improve the
quality of building footprint generation compared to conditional generative
adversarial networks, the U-Net, and other networks. In addition, our method
nearly removes all hyperparameters tuning.Comment: 5 page
