    Capacity of a Class of Broadcast Relay Channels

    Consider the broadcast relay channel (BRC) which consists of a source sending information over a two user broadcast channel in presence of two relay nodes that help the transmission to the destinations. Clearly, this network with five nodes involves all the problems encountered in relay and broadcast channels. New inner bounds on the capacity region of this class of channels are derived. These results can be seen as a generalization and hence unification of previous work in this topic. Our bounds are based on the idea of recombination of message bits and various effective coding strategies for relay and broadcast channels. Capacity result is obtained for the semi-degraded BRC-CR, where one relay channel is degraded while the other one is reversely degraded. An inner and upper bound is also presented for the degraded BRC with common relay (BRC-CR), where both the relay and broadcast channel are degraded which is the capacity for the Gaussian case.     Labeling Diversity for 2x2 WLAN Coded-Cooperative Networks

    Labelling diversity is an efficient technique recently proposed in the literature and aims to improve the bit error rate(BER) performance of wireless local area network (WLAN) systems with two transmit and two receive antennas without increasing the transmit power and bandwidth requirements. In this paper, we employ labelling diversity with different space-time channel codes such as convolutional, turbo and low density parity check (LDPC) for both point-to-point and coded-cooperative communication scenarios. Joint iterative decoding schemes for distributed turbo and LDPC codes are also presented. BER performance bounds at an error floor (EF) region are derived and verified with the help of numerical simulations for both cooperative and non-cooperative schemes. Numerical simulations show that the coded-cooperative schemes with labelling diversity achieve better BER performances and use of labelling diversity at the source node significantly lowers relay outage probability and hence the overall BER performance of the coded-cooperative scheme is improved manifolds

    Disjoint LDPC Coding for Gaussian Broadcast Channels

    Low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes have been used for communication over a two-user Gaussian broadcast channel. It has been shown in the literature that the optimal decoding of such system requires joint decoding of both user messages at each user. Also, a joint code design procedure should be performed. We propose a method which uses a novel labeling strategy and is based on the idea behind the bit-interleaved coded modulation. This method does not require joint decoding and/or joint code optimization. Thus, it reduces the overall complexity of near-capacity coding in broadcast channels. For different rate pairs on the boundary of the capacity region, pairs of LDPC codes are designed to demonstrate the success of this technique.Comment: 5 pages, 1 figure, 3 tables, To appear in Proc.
