WiCV@CVPR2023: The Eleventh Women In Computer Vision Workshop at the Annual CVPR Conference
In this paper, we present the details of Women in Computer Vision Workshop -
WiCV 2023, organized alongside the hybrid CVPR 2023 in Vancouver, Canada. WiCV
aims to amplify the voices of underrepresented women in the computer vision
community, fostering increased visibility in both academia and industry. We
believe that such events play a vital role in addressing gender imbalances
within the field. The annual WiCV@CVPR workshop offers a) opportunity for
collaboration between researchers from minority groups, b) mentorship for
female junior researchers, c) financial support to presenters to alleviate
finanacial burdens and d) a diverse array of role models who can inspire
younger researchers at the outset of their careers. In this paper, we present a
comprehensive report on the workshop program, historical trends from the past
WiCV@CVPR events, and a summary of statistics related to presenters, attendees,
and sponsorship for the WiCV 2023 workshop
All that Glitters is not Gold when Translating Phraseological Units
Invited talk delivered at Machine Translation Summit XIV 2-6 September 2013, Nice, France.Phraseological unit is an umbrella term which covers a wide range of multi-word units (collocations, idioms, proverbs, routine formulae, etc.). Phraseological units (PUs) are pervasive in all languages and exhibit a peculiar combinatorial nature. PUs are usually frequent, cognitively salient, syntactically frozen and/or semantically opaque. Besides, their creative manipulations in
discourse can be anything but predictable, straightforward or easy to process. And when it comes to translating, problems multiply exponentially. It goes without saying that cultural differences and linguistic anisomorphisms go hand in hand
with issues arising from varying degrees of equivalence at the levels of system and text. No wonder PUs have been considered a pain in the neck within the NLP community. This presentation will focus on contrastive and translational features of phraseological units. It will consist of three parts. As a convenient background, the first part will contrast two similar concepts: multi-word unit (the preferred term within the NLP community) versus phraseological unit (the preferred term in phraseology). The second part will deal with phraseological systems in general, their structure and functioning. Finally, the third part will adopt a contrastive approach, with especial reference to translators’ strategies, procedures and choices. For good or for bad, when it comes to rendering phraseological units, human translation and computer-assisted translation appear to share the same garden path
Optical 3D surface inspection
Non-destructive dimensional inspection of surfaces is an issue of utmost importance in a large number of situations in R&D and at the industrial world. An increasing number of surfaces and surface types must be microtopographically characterized in a non-destructive non-invasive way. Statistical parameters, both 2D and 3D, are fundamental to a useful quantitative characterization of the surface’ relief. However the two and tridimensional magnified representation of the microtopographic structure of the surface, allowing a comfortable and detailed visualization of the relief structure, gives very meaningful insights and is more and more requested. Increasing computer processing power and speed and new software allows our days a very efficient visual inspection of the results of the microtopographic inspection of surfaces and parts. Optical triangulation in different approaches allow the establishment of metrological systems that by its inherent relative simplicity versatility robustness and reliability can cope with most modern requirements of the non-invasive inspection of objects and surfaces both smooth or rough.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
