    The Trajectory of IT in Healthcare at HICSS: A Literature Review, Analysis, and Future Directions

    Research has extensively demonstrated that healthcare industry has rapidly implemented and adopted information technology in recent years. Research in health information technology (HIT), which represents a major component of the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, demonstrates similar findings. In this paper, review the literature to better understand the work on HIT that researchers have conducted in HICSS from 2008 to 2017. In doing so, we identify themes, methods, technology types, research populations, context, and emerged research gaps from the reviewed literature. With much change and development in the HIT field and varying levels of adoption, this review uncovers, catalogs, and analyzes the research in HIT at HICSS in this ten-year period and provides future directions for research in the field

    In this paper we continue the minitrack series of papers recognizing issues and challenges identified in the field of Big Data and Analytics, from the past and going forward. As this field has evolved, it has begun to encompass other analytical regimes, notably AI/ML systems. In this paper we focus on two areas: continuing main issues for which some progress has been made and new and emerging issues which we believe form the basis for near-term and future research in Big Data and Analytics. The Bottom Line: Big Data and Analytics is healthy, is growing in scope and evolving in capability, and is finding applicability in more problem domains than ever before

    Enterprise Content Management - A Literature Review

    Managing information and content on an enterprise-wide scale is challenging. Enterprise content management (ECM) can be considered as an integrated approach to information management. While this concept received much attention from practitioners, ECM research is still an emerging field of IS research. Most authors that deal with ECM claim that there is little scholarly literature available. After approximately one decade of ECM research, this paper provides an in-depth review of the body of academic research: the ECM domain, its evolution, and main topics are characterized. An established ECM research framework is adopted, refined, and explained with its associated elements and working definitions. On this basis, 68 articles are reviewed, classified, and concepts are derived. Prior research is synthesized and findings are integrated in a concept-centric way.     An investigation of factors affecting technology acceptance and use decisions by Australian allied health therapists

    The research reported in this paper describes the development, empirical validation and analysis of a model of technology acceptance by Australian occupational therapists. The study described involved the collection of quantitative data through a national survey, with over 2000 responses and a longitudinal case study within the community health sector. Results provide qualitative and quantitative support for the proposed model and demonstrate the inadequacy of traditional models of technology acceptance when applied to the health sector. This work extends technology acceptance studies into new realms of the health sector and highlights the need for a broadening of health IT research, and particularly technology acceptance studies, to encompass a more holistic and inclusive view of those who work in healthcare in order to gain a greater understanding of its complexities and how IS implementation success can be enhanced in this arena

    Intranet adoption in Irish organisations: a survey analysis

    This paper outlines the findings of an eploratory postal survey, investigating the adoption of Intranets within Irish organisations. We initially explore background literature covering the issues of definitions, applications, advantages, predicted impact on organisations ,information nature and new potential roles of infomation providers. It is clear from this literature that there is a lack of empirically backed evidence of Intranet adoption. This study therefore attempts to address this imbalance and is centred on selective findings of a postal survey, which investigated the use of Intranets in the top 1000 Irish organisations. The main questions addressed by this survey incluted How prevalent are Intranets in Organisations ? What way are they being used ? and what is the profile of organisations that claimed to acquire most benefit ?

    Fog computing pour l'intégration d'agents et de services Web dans un middleware réflexif autonome

    International audienceService Oriented Architecture (SOA) has emerged as a dominant architecture for interoperability between applications, by using a weak-coupled model based on the flexibility provided by Web Services, which has led to a wide range of applications, what is known as cloud computing. On the other hand, Multi-Agent System (MAS) is widely used in the industry, because it provides an appropriate solution to complex problems, in a proactive and intelligent way. Specifically, Intelligent Environments (Smart City, Smart Classroom, Cyber Physical System, and Smart Factory, among others) obtain great benefits by using both architectures, because MAS endows intelligence to the environment, while SOA enables users to interact with cloud services, which improve the capabilities of the devices deployed in the environment. Additionally, the fog computing paradigm extends the cloud computing paradigm to be closer to the things that produce and act on the intelligent environment, allowing to deal with issues like mobility, real time, low latency, geo-localization, among other aspects. In this sense, in this article we present a middleware, which not only is capable of allowing MAS and SOA to communicate in a bidirectional and transparent way, but also, it uses the fog computing paradigm autonomously, according to the context and to the system load factor. Additionally, we analyze the performance of the incorporation of the fog-computing paradigm in our middleware and compare it with other works

    Systematic Development of Physical Hypermedia Applications

    In this paper we present a model-based approach for the development of physical hypermedia applications, i.e. those mobile (Web) applications in which physical and digital objects are related and explored using the hypermedia paradigm. We describe an extension of the Object-Oriented Hypermedia Design Method (OOHDM) and present an improvement of the popular Model-View-Controller (MVC) metaphor to incorporate the concept of located object; we illustrate the idea with a framework implementation using Jakarta Struts. We first review the state of the art of this kind of software systems, stressing the need of a systematic design and implementation approach; we briefly present a light extension to the OOHDM design approach, incorporating physical objects and “walkable” links. We next present a Web application framework for deploying physical hypermedia software and show an example of use.     A Comparative Study of Consumers’ Intention to Use Mobile Internet in USA, Russia and China

    As the mobile Internet has been used explosively worldwide, the effects of cultural factors on mobile Internet usage have been an interesting issue. Cross-cultural studies on the mobile phone internet may improve our understanding of individuals\u27 attitude toward mobile phone internet in different countries and provide advantages for marketing of mobile internet services in different cultural contexts. This paper uses an extension model of Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to provide the theoretical foundation for this study. The data was collected through a survey study of over 3000 consumer in 3 countries of USA, Russia and China. The findings present several insights into the position of mobile phone internet usage in the different market. Such insights allow mobile service providers and mobile markers to create more customized strategies to launch new internet based services or mobile marketing campaigns. This paper ends with both theoretical and practical implications and limitations of the study results
