Multilingual Lexical Semantic Resources for Ontology Translation
We describe the integration of some multilingual language resources in ontological descriptions, with the purpose of providing ontologies, which are normally using concept labels in just one (natural) language, with multilingual facility in their design and use in the context of Semantic Web applications, supporting both the semantic annotation of textual documents with multilingual ontology labels and ontology extraction from multilingual text sources
Dictionaries merger for text expansion in question answering
This paper presents an original way to add new data in a reference dictionary
from several other lexical resources, without loosing any consistence. This
operation is carried in order to get lexical information classified by the
sense of the entry. This classification makes it possible to enrich utterances
(in QA: the queries) following the meaning, and to reduce noise. An analysis of
the experienced problems shows the interest of this method, and insists on the

We investigated dictionary based cross language information
retrieval using lexical triangulation. Lexical triangulation combines the results
of different transitive translations. Transitive translation uses a pivot language
to translate between two languages when no direct translation resource is
available. We took German queries and translated then via Spanish, or Dutch
into English. We compared the results of retrieval experiments using these
queries, with other versions created by combining the transitive translations or
created by direct translation. Direct dictionary translation of a query introduces
considerable ambiguity that damages retrieval, an average precision 79% below
monolingual in this research. Transitive translation introduces more ambiguity,
giving results worse than 88% below direct translation. We have shown that
lexical triangulation between two transitive translations can eliminate much of
the additional ambiguity introduced by transitive translation
A Word Sense-Oriented User Interface for Interactive Multilingual Text Retrieval
In this paper we present an interface for supporting a user in an interactive cross-language search process using semantic classes. In order to enable users to access multilingual information, different problems have to be solved: disambiguating and translating the query words, as well as categorizing and presenting the results appropriately. Therefore, we first give a brief introduction to word sense disambiguation, cross-language text retrieval and document categorization and finally describe recent achievements of our research towards an interactive multilingual retrieval system. We focus especially on the problem of browsing and navigation of the different word senses in one source and possibly several target languages. In the last part of the paper, we discuss the developed user interface and its functionalities in more detail
Building a wordnet for Turkish
This paper summarizes the development process of a wordnet for Turkish as part of the Balkanet project. After discussing the basic method-ological issues that had to be resolved during the course of the project, the paper presents the basic steps of the construction process in chronological order. Two applications using Turkish wordnet are summarized and links to resources for wordnet builders are provided at the end of the paper

Combining Multiple Methods for the Automatic Construction of Multilingual WordNets
This paper explores the automatic construction of a multilingual Lexical
Knowledge Base from preexisting lexical resources. First, a set of automatic
and complementary techniques for linking Spanish words collected from
monolingual and bilingual MRDs to English WordNet synsets are described.
Second, we show how resulting data provided by each method is then combined to
produce a preliminary version of a Spanish WordNet with an accuracy over 85%.
The application of these combinations results on an increment of the extracted
connexions of a 40% without losing accuracy. Both coarse-grained (class level)
and fine-grained (synset assignment level) confidence ratios are used and
