Evaluation of data box introduction process in the Czech Republic

    Get PDF
One of base building stones of eGovernment development in the Czech Republic is so called Data boxes which were introduced to unify communication and to increase efficiency in public administration. The aim of a study carried out by the Department of Information Technologies was to analyze the implementation procedure and to use data boxes. The questioning took place in December 2009, i.e. c.6 weeks after introduction of duty to use a data box. Obtained results are important above all because the development process of eGovernment still does not end. The suggestion from data box implementation can significantly facilitate introduction of basic registers and other applications.eGovernment, Data box, 300/2008 Col., 111/2009 Col., Basic registeres, Research and Development/Tech Change/Emerging Technologies, GA, IN,

Introduction to topological superconductivity and Majorana fermions

This short review article provides a pedagogical introduction to the rapidly growing research field of Majorana fermions in topological superconductors. We first discuss in some details the simplest "toy model" in which Majoranas appear, namely a one-dimensional tight-binding representation of a p-wave superconductor, introduced more than ten years ago by Kitaev. We then give a general introduction to the remarkable properties of Majorana fermions in condensed matter systems, such as their intrinsically non-local nature and exotic exchange statistics, and explain why these quasiparticles are suspected to be especially well suited for low-decoherence quantum information processing. We also discuss the experimentally promising (and perhaps already successfully realized) possibility of creating topological superconductors using semiconductors with strong spin-orbit coupling, proximity-coupled to standard s-wave superconductors and exposed to a magnetic field. The goal is to provide an introduction to the subject for experimentalists or theorists who are new to the field, focusing on the aspects which are most important for understanding the basic physics. The text should be accessible for readers with a basic understanding of quantum mechanics and second quantization, and does not require knowledge of quantum field theory or topological states of matter.Comment: 21 pages, 5 figure

Introduction to MARISTEM - Stem cells of marine/aquatic invertebrates: from basic research to innovative applications

    Get PDF
Marine/aquatic invertebrates constitute the largest biodiversity and the widest phylogenetic radiation on Earth, from morphologically simple organisms (e.g., sponges, cnidarians), to the more complex mollusks, crustaceans, echinoderms, and protochordates. Today, adult marine/aquatic invertebrate stem cell (MISC) biology is of prime research and medical interest. However, studies on stem cells from organisms outside the classical vertebrate (e.g., human, mouse, and zebrafish) and invertebrate (e.g., Drosophila, Caenorhabditis) models have not been pursued vigorously. These organisms contain a variety of MISC types that allow the production of a large number of novel bioactive-molecules, many of which are of significant potential interest for human health. MISCs further participate in aging and regeneration phenomena, including whole-body regeneration. For years, the European MISC-community has been highly fragmented and has established scarce ties with biomedical industries in an attempt to harness MISCs for human welfare. Thus, it is important to (i) consolidate the European community of researchers working on MISCs; (ii) promote and coordinate European research on MISC biology; (iii) stimulate young researchers to embark on research in MISCbiology; (iv) develop, validate, and share novel MISC tools and methodologies; (v) establish the MISC discipline as a forefront interest of biomedical disciplines, including nanobiomedicine; and (vi) establish collaborations with industries to exploit MISCs as sources of bioactive molecules. In order to fill the recognized gaps, the EC-COST Action 16203 \u201cMARISTEM\u201d has recently been launched. At its initial stage, the consortium unites scientists from 24 EC countries, Cooperating countries, and Near Neighbor Countries

Equalities between h-type indices and definitions of rational h-type indicators

    Get PDF
Purpose: To show for which publication-citation arrays h-type indices are equal and to reconsider rational h-type indices. Results for these research questions fill some gaps in existing basic knowledge about h-type indices. Design/methodology/approach: The results and introduction of new indicators are based on well-known definitions. Findings: The research purpose has been reached: answers to the first questions are obtained and new indicators are defined. Research limitations: h-type indices do not meet the Bouyssou-Marchant independence requirement. Practical implications: On the one hand, more insight has been obtained for well-known indices such as the h-and the g-index and on the other hand, simple extensions of existing indicators have been added to the bibliometric toolbox. Relative rational h-type indices are more useful for individuals than the existing absolute ones. Originality/value: Answers to basic questions such as "when are the values of two h-type indices equal" are provided. A new rational h-index is introduced

Introduction: Senators and members receive an annual allowance by way of basic salary—$195,130 from 1 July 2014.1 This research paper explains the legislative basis, fixing and linking mechanisms for the allowance. Adjustments to the base salary since 1968 are provided in Table 1 and Graph 1 of the report. Information on the base salary of state and territory members of parliament is available in a companion Research paper, Parliamentary remuneration and entitlements. &nbsp

Arrangement infringement possibility approach: some economic features of large-scale events

The definition of an arrangement infringement has been given. Several characteristics of hurricanes as large-scale events and the objectives for the first stages of an insurance data analysis have been sketched out. Scale hypotheses, insurance and investment problems have been formulated. The generalized items of the first stage of the research are: a simple example of an application of the arrangement infringement possibility approach the first basic hypothesis and the general introduction to the approach fine effects the second basic hypothesis and some mathematic models involved formal methods and applications.

    Theory of the decision/problem state

    Get PDF
A theory of the decision-problem state was introduced and elaborated. Starting with the basic model of a decision-problem condition, an attempt was made to explain how a major decision-problem may consist of subsets of decision-problem conditions composing different condition sequences. In addition, the basic classical decision-tree model was modified to allow for the introduction of a series of characteristics that may be encountered in an analysis of a decision-problem state. The resulting hierarchical model reflects the unique attributes of the decision-problem state. The basic model of a decision-problem condition was used as a base to evolve a more complex model that is more representative of the decision-problem state and may be used to initiate research on decision-problem states
