Intelligent Tutoring Systems could be used to provide differentiated instruction. This review examines qualities of Intelligent Tutoring Systems and their impact on student achievement. Thirty peer-reviewed research studies published from 1997 to 2019 were selected for analysis. This review considers how intelligent tutoring systems compare with other methods of instruction, and how an intelligent tutoring system’s on-screen tutor impacts student achievement. Finally, this review considers methods of ITS personalization and how those methods impact student achievement. The reviewed research studies indicated that ITS was more effective than all forms of instruction except small group and individualized instruction. Additionally, on-screen agents in and personalization of Intelligent Tutoring Systems often have a positive impact on student learning. Recommendations for classroom implementation of intelligent tutoring systems and suggestions for future research are discusse

The area which covers the meaning of intelligent agents and their contribution is a subject of constant changes. Researchers are in a constant race to create intelligent agents that will contribute the most benefits in their life and will represent an extenuating circumstance regarding different complexity level problems, aiming to satisfy people’s needs. Some of them show agent models that\ud are going to be the starting point of future projects, and some give the whole picture of fully functioning agents. This paper gives a review of a systematic approach for\ud designing multi agent system model for university teaching activities using UML approach

User Customisation of Agent Profiles in the National electronic Library for Communicable Disease

The Internet provides overwhelming amount of medical information. However, healthcare professionals often cannot find the information they need when they need it and if they do the quality may be uncertain. A new Internet digital library, the National electronic Library for Communicable Disease (NeLCD), is addressing this issue by providing a single-entry portal to evidence-based information on treatment, investigation and prevention of communicable disease. Autonomous Intelligent Agents are essential for the development and runtime of the NeLCD library as they perform autonomously a number of tasks related to the search, assist humans in information publishing, the document review process and data exchange. In this paper, we present an application of Intelligent Agents in user profiling and customisation. In particular, they allow users to personalise the search, modify the input controlled vocabulary and customize the search results to better meet their needs. In addition, they can autonomously alert users about new postings according to their interests. Profiling of Intelligent Search Agents (ISA) and Pro-active Alert Agents (PAA) allows extensive customisation of the library according to user’s personal preferences, professional background and medical specialty

Human Motion Trajectory Prediction: A Survey

With growing numbers of intelligent autonomous systems in human environments, the ability of such systems to perceive, understand and anticipate human behavior becomes increasingly important. Specifically, predicting future positions of dynamic agents and planning considering such predictions are key tasks for self-driving vehicles, service robots and advanced surveillance systems. This paper provides a survey of human motion trajectory prediction. We review, analyze and structure a large selection of work from different communities and propose a taxonomy that categorizes existing methods based on the motion modeling approach and level of contextual information used. We provide an overview of the existing datasets and performance metrics. We discuss limitations of the state of the art and outline directions for further research.Comment: Submitted to the International Journal of Robotics Research (IJRR), 37 page

Intelligent Pedagogical Agents in Immersive Virtual Learning Environments: A Review

    Get PDF
The concept of Intelligent Pedagogical Agents (IPA) has been an important research topic for a long time. IPA is supported by multi-agent systems research derived from AI. IPA provides personalized instruction, increase learner motivation, and act pedagogically on behalf or with the learner. On the other hand, virtual environments add value to the education process by giving new educational possibilities and computational-richness support. Combining both IPA and Virtual environments can make a promising approach for effective computer-aided learning. This paper provides a review on IPA and related topics focusing on a general overview of the topic, gives a detailed review in the application domain of virtual learning environments, and outlines a proposal for a flexible conceptual approach for the flexible application in different learning settings

Addressing the ethics of telepresence applications through end-user engagement

Portacolone et al.’s Ethics Review highlights the ethical challenges associated with the implementation of telepresence devices and applications in the context of aging and dementia. In this response, we review ethical considerations as they relate to specific modalities of telepresence, with an emphasis on the continuum of potential interaction agents, from known individuals to fully automated and intelligent interlocutors. We further discuss areas in need of empirical evidence to inform regulatory efforts in telepresence. We close with a call for meaningful end-user engagement at all stages of technology development

The research is about using intelligent agent in bulletin board system. This intelligent agent will provide useful information and instruction to the users in an interactive way and also displaying useful information about the system. The development of the intelligent agent is to change the traditional interface of the websites that are so much inhuman into an artificial life that can interact with the users. The main objectives of the research is to identify characteristic and the features of current bulletin board based on literature review, determine which intelligent agent that can be used within the bulletin board system and identify information that can be displayed by the virtual assistant intelligent agent. The scope of the project is including the development of the intelligent bulletin board prototype. The researcher have done some review of literature on previous research that very important to the development of this research. The development of the system will use the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) approach. This approach includes system planning, system analysis, system design and implementation. The development of the intelligent agent is based on several artificial intelligent functions including natural language processing, document summarization, document indexing and knowledge base generation. The findings that can be gain by this research is the similarities and the differences between several top user rated bulletin board and the user's acceptance towards the intelligent agent features. So, in conclusion, the researcher sees that the intelligent bulletin board will be well accepted and used by the users. For further research, it is recommended for the next researcher to focus more on other type of intelligent software agents besides virtual assistant agents such as filtering agents or web agents to be implemented not only in the bulletin board system, but also in other websites generally
