    A Cocitation Analysis of Crisis Management Literature

    This thesis addresses the need for a structured mapping of academic literature relating to crisis management. An overview of current crisis management literature is provided, highlighting the gap and concentrating on predominant themes that have been identified in previous reviews, as well as those extracted from influential works. A review of bibliometric methodology is highlighted to address the gap. Research goals are named and the phased methodology necessary to meet those goals is outlined and followed. Results are covered in detail: The resultant factor analysis and multidimensional scaling confirm previous efforts to taxonomize the literature, further reinforcing the call to mature the field of crisis management literature

    On the basis of research on ‘green’ in the disciplines of management and business

    In this research, we analyze and map the existing literature on ‘green’ in the disciplines of management and business by applying citation, co-citation, and bibliographic coupling analyses, i.e. using bibliometric methods, from two different perspectives: first, identifying and analyzing the works that have had the greatest impact on research and the changes that have taken place in the intellectual structure of this disciplinary area; and second, reviewing the most recent literature to unveil current trends and future priorities as they are reflected at the forefront of research. To carry out the study we used Clarivate Analytics’ Web of Science Core Collection™ (WoS) –in particular, one of its indexes: the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI). From this database, 4,888 articles published between 1968 and 2022 were retrieved. The sample period of 55 years was then divided into two sub-periods: 1968–2011 and 2012–2022 to longitudinally examine the data. To the best of our knowledge, no such study has dealt with this field and we believe the outcomes can help coordinate future research efforts

    Positioning Knowledge: Schools of Thought and New Knowledge Creation

    Cohesive intellectual communities called “schools of thought” can provide powerful benefits to those developing new knowledge, but can also constrain them. We examine how developers of new knowledge position themselves within and between schools of thought, and how this affects their impact. Looking at the micro and macro fields of management publications from 1956 to 2002 with an extensive dataset of 113,000+ articles from 41 top journals, we explore the dynamics of knowledge positioning for management scholars. We find that it is significantly beneficial for new knowledge to be a part of a school of thought, and that within a school of thought new knowledge has more impact if it is in the intellectual semi-periphery of the school

    Of tribes and totems: An author cocitation context analysis of Kurt Lewin’s influence in social science journals

    This study used author cocitation context analysis (ACCA) to explore the intellectual structure of two Lewinian social science journal communities. ACCA is a variant of White’s (2000) ego-centered citation analysis, in which the focal author name serves as a filter. Articles citing Lewin between 1972 and 2001 in the Journal of Social Issues and Human Relations, sponsored by Lewinian specialties served as the test bed. Procedures conducted on cited author names—cluster analysis, multidimensional scaling, principal components analysis, and Pathfinder network analysis—generated coherent maps for each journal that maintained a “Lewinian” focus. The maps displayed the range of subject themes of interest to the specialties, which is consistent with Lewin’s importance to the specialties. Classifying all citations to Lewin as Totemic or Substantive assessed citation function. Results were convergent with the MDS maps in that Lewin’s work was used most frequently in a Substantive (central) way. Use of Lewin’s work did not conform to expectation in that the number of articles citing Lewin increased overall and the proportion of Totemic (peripheral) citations did not increase over the time studied.     The Development of Social Simulation as Reflected in the First Ten Years of JASSS: a Citation and Co-Citation Analysis

    Social simulation is often described as a multidisciplinary and fast-moving field. This can make it difficult to obtain an overview of the field both for contributing researchers and for outsiders who are interested in social simulation. The Journal for Artificial Societies and Social Simulation (JASSS) completing its tenth year provides a good opportunity to take stock of what happened over this time period. First, we use citation analysis to identify the most influential publications and to verify characteristics of social simulation such as its multidisciplinary nature. Then, we perform a co-citation analysis to visualize the intellectual structure of social simulation and its development.     El propósito del presente trabajo de investigación es tratar de identificar las principales corrientes de investigación dentro del campo o dominio científico de la dirección de recursos humanos analizando todos los artículos de investigación publicados en la revista The International Journal of Human Resource Management (IJHRM) durante el período comprendido entre los años 2000 y 2012. En otras palabras o dicho de otro modo, la «estructura intelectual» de la disciplina analizada (the HRM discipline). Los autores utilizan para ello métodos bibliométricos. En particular, se emplearon los análisis de citación y co-citación de autores (ACA). El análisis de redes sociales (SNA) fue también usado para proceder a la representación o visualización de dicha estructura o base de conocimiento. En cuanto a los resultados, el análisis desarrollado nos habría permitido delimitar las diferentes líneas o frentes de investigación que conforman la estructura intelectual de la investigación desarrollada en el campo de la dirección de recursos humanos.The present research paper has as its aim to try and identify the main research streams within the human resource management scientific field or domain through the analysis of all the research papers published in The International Journal of Human Resource Management (IJHRM) during the period comprised between 2000 and 2012. In other words or expressed differently, the »intellectual structure» of the discipline under study —the HRM discipline. The authors utilize bibliometric methods to achieve that aim, in particular, author citation and co-citation analyses (ACA). Social networks analysis (SNA) was also used to proceed with the visualization of that knowledge structure or base. As for results, the analysis developed would have allowed us to define the different research lines or fronts which shape the intellectual structure of the research carried out in the field of human resource management

    A new approach to institutional domain analysis: multilevel research fronts structure

    The intellectual structure and main research fronts of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Museum of the National University of La Plata, Argentina is studied, based on the cocitation analysis of subject categories, journals and authors of their scientific publications collected in the Science Citation Index, CD-ROM version, for the period 1991–2000. The objective of this study is to test the utility of those techniques to explore and to visualize the intellectual structure and research fronts of multidisciplinary institutional domains.     Citation Analyses in Information Systems

    Few scientists that specialize in information systems would recognize the name one of the field’s most cited authors, Ike Antkare. It is not that Antkare is from an obscure discipline. This aberration is the result of a vulnerability of citation analyses. A vulnerability proven with a computer program. Today, funding, promotion and tenure extension depend on the results of these analyses. This paper explores the nature of citation analyses in the information systems (IS) field and classifies them based on an adapted framework of Zupic and Cater (2015). The results illustrate two types of citation analyses. The first type contains ranking studies using measures of the h-family index calculated on citation networks. The second type involves co-citation analysis applying cluster or factor analysis to determine the intellectual structure, trajectory or maturity
