Dissertação apresentada como requisito parcial para obtenção do grau de Mestre em Estatística e Gestão de Informação, especialização em Estudos de Mercado e Gestão de Relacionamento com o ClienteThis study attempts to test and validate the theoretical framework proposed by Bose and Luo (2011) that identifies and examines the factors that contribute to the assessment of a firm’s readiness to go green via IT-enable virtualization. The conceptual framework is based on three theoretical foundations: (1) technology-organization-environment (TOE) framework; (2) process virtualization theory (PVT); and (3) diffusion of innovation (DOI) theory. To test the framework, data were collected from 251 firms in Portugal and partial least square (PLS) was used to estimate the research model. The study found that environmental context (i.e., competition intensity and regulatory support) influences Green IT adoption more than the technological and organizational contexts. The research also confirmed that the pre-stage of adoption (i.e., Green IT initialization) influences the formal stage of adoption (i.e., Green IT integration), which in turn influences the post-adoption stage (i.e., Green IT maturation). As sustainable products and practices become increasingly relevant, the study adds new knowledge to this emergent area of IS research and provides valuable insights to IS managers and decision makers.

Digital Sustainability in Information Systems Research: Conceptual Foundations and Future Directions

    Get PDF
In this editorial, we develop the concept of digital sustainability for the IS community. By systematically reviewing the Green IT and Green IS literatures, we show that the IS field has lagged behind current discourse in practice and therefore lacks the conceptualization of the relationships between digital technologies and sustainability. Digital sustainability is defined in this editorial as the development and deployment of digital resources and artifacts toward improving the environment, society, and economic welfare. We hope that this editorial motivates IS researchers to engage in digital sustainability as an emerging research area

Sustainable IS Initialization Through Outsourcing: A Theory-Based Approach

Environmentally friendly and sustainable initiatives have emerged as important topics in IS research over the last few years. However the existing discussions and scientific contributions in this field are mainly based on case studies and empiricalsurveys. Less research is firmly based on existing IS theories. Furthermore, little research has been undertaken to analyze thecontribution of outsourcing to environmental sustainability. This paper takes a theory-based approach to link outsourcingwith sustainable IS to examine the possibilities of organizations engaging in green and sustainable initiatives. To ensure abroad scope the model is built on the technology-organization-environment (TOE) framework. This framework is extendedwith the diffusion of innovation (DoI) theory to incorporate implementation success, technology acceptance and thetransaction cost theory (TCT) to integrate outsourcing success into the model

The study sought to fill the existing gap on issues surrounding the implementation of Server virtualization technology, which have received relatively little attention.. The study investigated the implementation of server virtualization technology by companies listed in the Nairobi Securities Exchange. It employed a correlational research design and targeted the IT and Operations departments of listed companies on the NSE. The target population consisted of 120 persons, and the study used a census method. Primary data was collected through use of questionnaires. Data collected was sorted, coded and input into the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) version 21.0 for production of graphs, tables, descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. Correlation analysis revealed that environmental factors, technological factors, organizational factors and human factors had a positive and significant association with server virtualization implementation. Organizations and society nowadays face significant challenges. Organizations are required to fundamentally digital transform by assimilating Information Technology (IT) and Information System (IS) assets. Society faces an increasingly severe global climate disruption and needs to become more environmentally friendly. Green IT (GIT) and Green IS (GIS), as technologies and initiatives that seek to reduce the negative impacts of IT/IS on the environment, are a response to this. They can help organizations to gain a competitive advantage while also addressing broad-scale environmental issues. We undertake a literature review to frame the general GIT/GIS adoption process. We provide an overarching understanding by modeling a sequence of five cognitive adoption phases (outset, pre-adoption, adoption, post-adoption, and outcome) on four levels (environmental, societal, organizational, and individual). By recognizing that GIT/GIS adoption has multiple drivers and outcomes, we provide an extensive perspective on GIT/GIS adoption

Recently, Green IT has become one of the hottest topics in IS field. Among questions related to Green IT, the first one is “Why organizations adopt Green IT”. Just like there is no consensus on what Green IT is, no consistent answer has been proposed for this question. Beginning with a clarification of the definition of Green IT, this paper reviewed and summarized the predictors of organizational adoption of Green IT identified by previous studies. Based on the TOE framework, a taxonomy was provided in this paper. Several critical observations were discussed as well

Green IT has emerged as a popular and an important research area in information system field over past decade or so. Some progresses have been made in our understandings of Green IT in a wide area of research topics ranging from Green IT definition to motivation of adopting Green IT by organizations. The paper presents a research model on organizational adoption of Green IT based on an extensive review of literature and a broad theoretical foundation. The model is tested, using content analysis, with data of 39 cases collected from Green IT vendors

Process virtualization theory (PVT) and institutional theory (INT) to explain SAAS adoption

Software as a service (SaaS) is a service model in which the applications are accessible from various client devices through internet. Several studies report possible factors driving the adoption of SaaS but none have considered the perception of the SaaS features and the pressures existing in the organization’s environment. We propose an integrated research model that combines the process virtualization theory (PVT) and the institutional theory (INT). PVT seeks to explain whether SaaS processes are suitable for migration into virtual environments via an information technology-based mechanism. INT seeks to explain the effects of the institutionalized environment on the structure and actions of the organization. The research makes three contributions. First, it addresses a gap in the SaaS adoption literature by studying the internal perception of the technical features of SaaS and external coercive, normative, and mimetic pressures faced by an organization. Second, it empirically tests many of the propositions of PVT and INT in the SaaS context, thereby helping to determine how the theory operates in practice. Third, the integration of PVT and INT contributes to the information system (IS) discipline, deepening the applicability and strengths of these theories

Information technology is developing so rapidly virtually, where technology allows users to interact with an environment that is simulated online, a tool that has a number of accurate information that can be accessed online to receive information. Copid_19 information technology has a bad impact on the business activities of small and medium businesses so that the supply of goods becomes using, considering that performance targets other than profit are declining for the company because it does not obtain sales transactions, ultimately the flow of funds from customers is more hampered. The copid-19 outbreak caused it to reduce company financial statements and business practices and profitability according. Copid-19 information technology outbreaks cause customers to make the decision to stay at home with no outside activities, ultimately stopping business practices and other transactions for the company. Public media such as the Web, private social networks, wikis and blogs are important tools for companies to communicate, collaborate and share information about sales through the system and even evaluate directly how sales take place. The data analysis technique used in this study is the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) technique, in micro and small medium enterprises in Indonesia that are related and 112 samples are collected in micro small and medium businesses spread across Indonesia. The results showed that the copid-19 outbreak information technology was quite influential on the company's financial statements and business practices. Companies must consider losses due to obsolescence of inventory and company income will decrease. This research was conducted at micro small and medium enterprises in Indonesia which were affected by Corona. &nbsp
