The ever-growing population and lack of regulation regarding vehicle imports further compound the situation, making urban transportation in Iraq a challenging problem to address. The digital revolution has ushered in a new era of civilization, marked by significant advancements in communication technology and information systems. This transformation has led to the widespread adoption of communication and information technology in various sectors, including transportation management. However, the successful implementation of digital transportation initiatives requires the collection and organization of extensive data, which is then used to develop graphic and visual software technology, create communication networks, and define new functions for visual and audio files. Using BI applications can increase both operational efficiency and customer satisfaction. In addition, BI improves planning that provides the foundation for top successful performances in the future. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) deliver productivity tools that are highly beneficial for businesses. These benefits include: visualization, business capacity, analysis, and interpreting data to understand relationships, patterns, and trends. Another benefit is a new feature can report drivers who speed, accelerate hard, and make sudden stops. Nowadays, GIS is responsible for developing standard, strategy, and policy that emphasize coordination and cooperation among organizations and businesses in order to maximize cost effectiveness. Smart card technology is the name that describes plastic cards with an embedded computer chip. Basically, smart cards are usually the most cost-effective solution because it increases the level of processing power, memory, and flexibility. Therefore, implementing a smart card in a driver\u27s license can help to build control in a community. However, the general objective of the study is to investigate the feasibility of integrating Cloud Computing, BI, and GIS to build smart community. The research focuses on enhancing GIS tools and build control in community. The proposed system is a new approach in Information Technology that can lower business cost and build policy in organization. The research is nonexperimental study used qualitative method to answer certain research questions posed for the study. The result obtained from analysis exists GIS showed that enhance GIS can build control in the community. Furthermore, there is a feasibility integrating BI, Cloud and GIS to build smart community. On the bases of these finding, IT synergy will influence the business workflow process and performance of organization. Organizations can achieve many benefits from the integrating Cloud Computing approach, BI and GIS in decision making

    Pavement roads and transportation systems are crucial assets for promoting political stability, as well as economic and sustainable growth in developing countries. However, pavement maintenance backlogs and the high capital costs of road rehabilitation require the use of pavement evaluation tools to assure the best value of the investment. This research presents a methodology for analyzing the collected pavement data for the implementation of a network level pavement management program in Kazakhstan. This methodology, which could also be suitable in other developing countries’ road networks, focuses on the survey data processing to determine cost-effective maintenance treatments for each road section. The proposed methodology aims to support a decision-making process for the application of a strategic level business planning analysis, by extracting information from the survey data

    Nowadays, there are several low cost GPS receivers able to provide both pseudorange and carrier phase measurements in the L1band, that allow to have good realtime performances in outdoor condition. The present paper describes a set of dedicated tests in order to evaluate the positioning accuracy in static conditions. The quality of the pseudorange and the carrier phase measurements let hope for interesting results. The use of such kind of receiver could be extended to a large number of professional applications, like engineering fields: survey, georeferencing, monitoring, cadastral mapping and cadastral road. In this work, the receivers performance is verified considering a single frequency solution trying to fix the phase ambiguity, when possible.     MusA: Using Indoor Positioning and Navigation to Enhance Cultural Experiences in a museum

    In recent years there has been a growing interest into the use of multimedia mobile guides in museum environments. Mobile devices have the capabilities to detect the user context and to provide pieces of information suitable to help visitors discovering and following the logical and emotional connections that develop during the visit. In this scenario, location based services (LBS) currently represent an asset, and the choice of the technology to determine users' position, combined with the definition of methods that can effectively convey information, become key issues in the design process. In this work, we present MusA (Museum Assistant), a general framework for the development of multimedia interactive guides for mobile devices. Its main feature is a vision-based indoor positioning system that allows the provision of several LBS, from way-finding to the contextualized communication of cultural contents, aimed at providing a meaningful exploration of exhibits according to visitors' personal interest and curiosity. Starting from the thorough description of the system architecture, the article presents the implementation of two mobile guides, developed to respectively address adults and children, and discusses the evaluation of the user experience and the visitors' appreciation of these application

    Geographic analysis has been around longer than maps; probably back thousands of years when early humans planned hunting and movement. Perhaps the first GIS were scratches in the dirt or sand. Traditionally, highly skilled cartographers spent many hours drawing maps, and map users labored over the analytical tasks. Modern GIS arrived when computers became powerful, easier to operate, more affordable, and generally available to many users. Technology has created many changes, including geography, data, and methods of analysis. Modern GIS is a new paradigm, even more so when Modern GIS goes mobile. The rapid growth in mobile telecommunications and internet business is living proof of a radical change in today's information society and infrastructure. The current phase in this development is the continued increase in total mobility with wideband services. This paper explores GIS in the mobile environment using commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) components. It sees the research on GIS, focusing on GIS in mobile environment. It presents the ideaof applying GIS concept in vehicle tracking, where mobile GIS will couple up with GPS as a vehicle movement monitoring tool. The Reuse-Oriented Development Model is used as guidance for the project progress. The methodology is suitable as it stresses on component reuse. It encourages timely completion of the project. A simulation of vehicle tracking and navigating concept would be presented as the findings of the research. The simulation presents the idea of real-time tracking of a moving vehicle using data output from the GPS.

    Internet of things-based framework for public transportation fleet management in the Free State

    Thesis (Masters: Information Technology) -- Central University of Technology, Free State, 2019The poor service delivery by the Free State public transportation system inspired us to design a framework solution to improve the current system. This qualitative study focuses on improving the management of the public transportation fleet. One of the most recently developed technologies in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), namely the Internet of Things (IoT), was utilised to develop this framework. Existing problems were identified through research observations, analyses of the current system, analyses of the current problem areas, as well as participants’ questionnaire answers and recommendations, the participants being the passengers, drivers and vehicle owners. The framework was developed in two phases, namely a hardware phase that makes use of ICT sensors (e.g. RFID, GPS, GPRS, IR, Zigbee, WiFi), and a software phase that uses an internet connection to communicate with the different ICT devices. The software utilised a Graphic User Interface (GUI) to ensure that the software is user-friendly and addresses possible problems and barriers such as multiple language interfaces and different ICT skills levels. The newly designed framework offers different services and solutions to meet the participants’ needs, such as real-time tracking for public transport vehicles to help passengers manage their departure and arrival times, as well as for vehicle owners to monitor their own vehicles. In turn, vehicle arrival notifications will encourage passengers to be on time so that vehicles will not be delayed unnecessarily. Another feature is counting devices that can be installed inside the vehicles, which will inform vehicle owners how many passengers are being transported by a vehicle. The passenger pre-booking system will support the drivers when planning their trips/routes. Finally, the framework was designed to fulfil all the participants’ needs that were indicated in the questionnaires in order to achieve the goal of the research study
