    Designing Information System To Support Business Process Improvement In A Small-Mid Size Bottled Drinking Water Industry

    Due to inefficiencies of the business processes in small-mid size of bottled drinking water industries, it is necessary to improve them. The improvements are carried out in business processes of production, warehouse, delivery, marketing, and finance departments. The main causes of the inefficiencies are the inefficiencies of the business process itself and that the business processes of those departments were not integrated. This paper is concerned with designing information system to support for the integration of those departments. First, we mapped the business process of each department using flow diagram. Then analyze the inefficiencies of each department. Next, we redesign the business processes and standardize them. The next step is integrating the business processes by designing the information system. We design the information system modular. The modules are marketing module, production module, logistic module and finance module. Data Flow Diagram (DFD) is used to model the system. Relational database management system (RDBMS) is used to design the database. User interfaces are built to ease in using the program application. The outputs of the information system are reports and documents in monitor screen view and in printing. The validation showed that the information system designed can support the business process improvements.     Process and Data: Two Sides of the Same Coin

    Companies increasingly adopt process management technology which offers promising perspectives for realizing flexible information systems. However, there still exist numerous process scenarios not adequately covered by contemporary information systems. One major reason for this deficiency is the insufficient understanding of the inherent relationships existing between business processes on one side and business data on the other. Consequently, these two perspectives are not well integrated in many existing process management systems. This paper emphasizes the need for both object- and process-awareness in future information systems, and illustrates it along several examples. Especially, the relation between these two fundamental perspectives will be discussed, and the role of business objects and data as drivers for both process modeling and process enactment be emphasized. In general, any business process support should consider object behavior as well as object interactions, and therefore be based on two levels of granularity. In addition, data-driven process execution and integrated user access to processes and data are needed. Besides giving insights into these fundamental characteristics, an advanced framework supporting them in an integrated manner will be presented and its application to real-world process scenarios be shown. Overall, a holistic and generic framework integrating processes, data, and users will contribute to overcome many of the limitations of existing process management technology

    APPLICATION OF BUSINESS PROCESS MANAGEMENT FOR CORPORATE SUSTAINABILITY

    In the light of the current debate on climate change and its ever-growing impact on the corporate world this thesis deals with the integration of sustainability into corporations. Its focus lies on the integration of sustainability through business process management (BPM). A comprehensive literature review on both corporate sustainability and BPM has been carried out. Research still fails to establish a link between sustainability and the strategic and operational management. Even though the integration of sustainability into business process management is explicitly recommended, no framework has yet realized this goal. In the light of the identified research gap one main research question evolved: How can Corporate Sustainability be integrated into Business Process Management? In addition to the theoretical data collection, this thesis is based on the experience of actual practitioners. This was achieved by a total of 21 interviews with employees responsible for sustainability. Coding the data produced a set of success factors and difficulties for the integration of sustainability, as well as requirements for a possible method for the integration of sustainability. This has never been described in literature to this extent before. So far literature does not provide a comprehensive set, as it is done within this thesis. From these results, a novel framework was developed to support companies with the sustainability integration using BPM. This initial framework was validated in a second round of interviews. The validation resulted in a refined Sustainability Integration Framework 2.0 which represents the main contribution to knowledge of this thesis. The framework shows the connection between the corporate strategy and the sustainability integration process. It further shows the relevant input factors that need to be considered when developing a sustainability strategy. It also demonstrates the most important steps that need to be undertaken when integrating sustainability into BPM. The framework is a novel approach that helps managers to structure and understand the process of integrating sustainability. It provides a clear guideline and a holistic approach for the integration of sustainability into business process management that has been requested by researchers and practitioners

    Highly regulated sectors face challenges on data and information quality management (DIQM) to conform to increasing regulations. With the financial service sector, as the most highly regulated industry, we are interested in current and future DIQM challenges. For a sustaining improvement, data quality should be managed process-driven. Process-driven data quality management (PDDQM) provides continuous improvement of data quality by redesigning processes that create or modify data. Therefore, business process management (BPM) is a basis for PDDQM. In an information systems’ context, enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems offer a platform for integrating processes and data. We examine market developments and IT trends by conducting semi-structured expert interviews with participants in IT-strategic decision making. We present current trends in the insurance sector and identify three main DIQM challenges: The IT-independent management of data, an increasing need to engage in PDDQM, and guiding existing and future measures by a data governance framework

    Over recent years, there has been tremendous growth of interest in business intelligence (BI) for higher education. BI analysis solutions are operated to extract useful information from a multi-dimensional datasets. However, higher education-based business intelligence is complex to build, maintain and it faces the knowledge constraints. Therefore, data mining techniques provide an effective computational methods for higher educationbased business intelligence. The main purpose of using data mining approaches in business intelligence is to provide decision making solution to higher education management. This paper presents the implementation of data mining approaches in business intelligence using a total of 13508 postgraduates (PG) data. These PG data are to allow the research to identify the postgraduates who Graduate On Time (GOT) via business intelligence process integrating data mining approaches. There are four layers will be discussed in this paper: data source layer (Layer 1), data integration layer (Layer 2), logic layer (Layer 3), and reporting layer (Layer 4). The main scope of this paper is to identify suitable data mining which is to allow decision making on GOT so as to an appropriate analysis to education management on GOT. The results show that Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier is with better accuracy of 99%. Hence, the contribution of data mining in business intelligence allows an accurate decision making in higher education

Along characteristic use cases from different application domains (e.g., healthcare and logistics), this chapter will give insights into the challenges, concepts and technologies relevant for integrating mobile task support with business processes. Amongst others, we will show how mobile task support can be enhanced with location-based data, sensor integration, and mobile task configuration support.     Enterprises have to be organized in a business process oriented way. This is in order to be successful in a changing and challenging business environment including uncertainty and complexity in managing business and manufacturing processes. The main objective of this thesis is to implement comprehensive modelling methodologies and tools that capture all useful information included within the enterprise business processes. This has been achieved first through implementing the Systems Analysis and Design (SAD) methodologies and tools for integrating the business design processes. The implementation should recognize the enterprise organization view, data and information view, function view, and also product/service view. Such recognition is required in order to improve the reuse of business process models for the implementation of workflow management applications. The implemented design methodologies have been demonstrated through two case studies, including the modelling of business and automotive manufacturing processes. In Addition, the Architecture of the Integrated Information System (ARIS) has been presented in both implementations using ARIS tool set. The ARIS implementation has assisted in supporting analysis for potential changes, specifying requirements, and also supporting the modeled business processes systems level design and integration activities. Results of using the selected graphical design languages with the systematic explanations of modelling the business process functions and activities revealed the need for implementing comprehensive SAD methodologies. Also, the SAD methodologies have assisted with integrating the enterprise through modelling its business activities, technology, and human elements involved.
