Brain image clustering by wavelet energy and CBSSO optimization algorithm

    Get PDF
Previously, the diagnosis of brain abnormality was significantly important in the saving of social and hospital resources. Wavelet energy is known as an effective feature detection which has great efficiency in different utilities. This paper suggests a new method based on wavelet energy to automatically classify magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) brain images into two groups (normal and abnormal), utilizing support vector machine (SVM) classification based on chaotic binary shark smell optimization (CBSSO) to optimize the SVM weights. The results of the suggested CBSSO-based KSVM are compared favorably to several other methods in terms of better sensitivity and authenticity. The proposed CAD system can additionally be utilized to categorize the images with various pathological conditions, types, and illness modes

Solving SVM model selection problem using ACOR and IACOR

Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) has been used to solve Support Vector Machine (SVM) model selection problem.ACO originally deals with discrete optimization problem. In applying ACO for optimizing SVM parameters which are continuous variables, there is a need to discretize the continuously value into discrete values. This discretize process would result in loss of some information and hence affect the classification accuracy. In order to enhance SVM performance and solving the discretization problem, this study proposes two algorithms to optimize SVM parameters using Continuous ACO (ACOR) and Incremental Continuous Ant Colony Optimization (IACOR) without the need to discretize continuous value for SVM parameters.Eight datasets from UCI were used to evaluate the credibility of the proposed integrated algorithm in terms of classification accuracy and size of features subset.Promising results were obtained when compared to grid search technique, GA with feature chromosome-SVM, PSO-SVM, and GA-SVM. Results have also shown that IACOR-SVM is better than ACOR-SVM in terms of classification accuracy

Financial time series modelling with hybrid model based on customized RBF neural network combined with genetic algorithm

In this paper, authors apply feed-forward artificial neural network (ANN) of RBF type into the process of modelling and forecasting the future value of USD/CAD time series. Authors test the customized version of the RBF and add the evolutionary approach into it. They also combine the standard algorithm for adapting weights in neural network with an unsupervised clustering algorithm called K-means. Finally, authors suggest the new hybrid model as a combination of a standard ANN and a moving average for error modeling that is used to enhance the outputs of the network using the error part of the original RBF. Using high-frequency data, they examine the ability to forecast exchange rate values for the horizon of one day. To determine the forecasting efficiency, authors perform the comparative out-of-sample analysis of the suggested hybrid model with statistical models and the standard neural network

    Neural networks in geophysical applications

    Get PDF
Neural networks are increasingly popular in geophysics. Because they are universal approximators, these tools can approximate any continuous function with an arbitrary precision. Hence, they may yield important contributions to finding solutions to a variety of geophysical applications. However, knowledge of many methods and techniques recently developed to increase the performance and to facilitate the use of neural networks does not seem to be widespread in the geophysical community. Therefore, the power of these tools has not yet been explored to their full extent. In this paper, techniques are described for faster training, better overall performance, i.e., generalization, and the automatic estimation of network size and architecture

Automated classification of text into predefined categories has always been considered as a vital method in thenatural language processing field. In this paper new methods based on Radial Basis Function (RBF) and Fuzzy Radial BasisFunction (FRBF) are used to solve the problem of text classification, where a set of features extracted for each sentencein the document collection these set of features introduced to FRBF and RBF to classify documents. Reuters 21578 datasetutilized for the purpose of text classification. The results showed the effectiveness of FRBF is better than RBF
