QUALITY METRICS FOR IT PROJECT MANAGEMENT

    Get PDF
Using metrics and indicators for the evaluation of the IT projects management have the advantage of providing rigorous details about the required effort and the boundaries of the IT deliverables. There are some disadvantages, as well, due to the fact the input data contains errors and the value of metrics depends on the quality of data used in models. Despite of its age, the Pareto Principle is still a strong mechanism constantly used in quality control of projects from various areas, including the IT field.Project Management, Information Technology, Metrics, Pareto Principle

An investigation into the use of quality management techniques in NZ IT projects : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Information Systems at Massey University

The risks in an IT project are very high both because of its complexity and also because the context of rapidly-developing technology leads to a high degree of uncertainty. IT projects should have comprehensive formal quality management fully integrated within all aspects of project management. A review of the quality management in IT project literature suggests, customer-focused TQM is now synonymous with good management. TQM combines the use of computerised data collection and statistical experimentation with a focus on teamwork, group participation and a culture of continuous improvement in operating systems (Robert. 1993). Using the survey methodology and through two case studies, qualitative data was gathered to develop a model of quality management implementation process in New Zealand. Key words: Quality. For a long time, the command-and-control approach has been in used in the Philippines as evidenced by the decreed minimum parameter for the acidity level of fresh waters. Its major tool, the setting of standards, has indeed been popular due to its simplicity and specificity. Are these effective? This Policy Notes gives an answer.natural resources and environment, environmental issues, environmental management

Strategic development of the built environment through international construction, quality and productivity management

    Get PDF
This thesis presents a coherent, sustained and substantial contribution to the advancement of knowledge or application of knowledge or both in the field of construction management and economics. More specifically, this thesis outlines the strategic development of the built environment through lessons from international construction, quality and productivity management. The strategic role of construction in economic development is emphasized. It describes the contributions transnational construction firms made towards modern-day construction project management practices globally. It establishes the relationship between construction quality and economic development and fosters a better understanding of total quality management and quality management systems in enhancing construction industry performance. Additionally, it prescribes lessons from the manufacturing industry for construction productivity and identifies the amount of carbon emissions reduced through lean construction management practices to alleviate the generally adverse effects of the built environment on global climate change. It highlights the need for integrated management systems to enhance quality and productivity for sustainable development in the built environment. The thesis is an account of how the built environment has evolved, leveraging on lessons from international construction, quality and productivity management for improvements over the past two decades

Modeling Quality Dynamics in IT Services Management

The increasing importance of information technology (IT) services in the global economy prompts IS researchers to focus on service quality dynamics to capture the critical interaction between human behavior and IT. The purpose of this study is to develop and validate a user perceived IT service quality model for mHealth using a cross-disciplinary approach. The conceptual model is rooted in the traditional cognition (service quality) – affective (satisfaction)– conation (continuance intentions) chain but explicitly identifies three primary dimensions (i.e., system quality, interaction quality and outcome quality) and eight subdimensions (system reliability, system efficiency, system privacy, responsiveness, assurance, empathy, utilitarian benefits and hedonic benefits) of IT service quality in mHealth. The findings of the study show that IT service quality is the third-order, reflective, hierarchical construct with strong positive effects on satisfaction and continuance intentions in a nomological network

PARTICULARITIES OF QUALITY EVALUATION IN A SOFTWARE COMPANY

Quality management is a management domain very discussed and disputed nowadays and this is the first sign it is a very modern, needed and present concept in theory and practice. Some are seeing it as a solution to prepare things in the way they are needed, and the instrument which might guarantee a proper environment of keeping them in a specified and constant form. The application of quality management is a quality management system that has to be designed, developed and implemented to achieve the aim of quality. The article has the purpose to briefly present what a quality management system should mean in a software company, why it should be periodically evaluated and how it might be done. In the second part it points out the characteristics of the audit as a general evaluation instrument and the main contribution consists on the author’s endeavor to mark out the particularities of an audit process carried out on a software company, considering the fact that particularization increases the changes to easier and earlier succeed with such an activity on a practical basis.Management, quality management, software quality, quality evaluation, quality audit

Effect of IT and quality management on performance

Purpose – The present study aims to draw on operations management and information technology literature to examine the effect of three information technology resources (electronic data interchange (EDI), computer‐aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM), and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems) and three related quality management capabilities (customer and supplier relations, product and process management, and quality data and workforce management) and their effect on a firm's quality performance. Design/methodology/approach – Hypotheses derived from the key features of quality management and information technology presented by previous authors are tested using structural equation modeling through field research on a sample of 229 manufacturing companies in Spain. Findings – Findings from this study indicate that there is significant evidence to support the hypothesized model in which information technology resources (EDI, ERP systems, and CAD/CAM systems) have a direct impact on related quality management capabilities (customer and supplier relations, product and process management, and quality data and workforce management) as well as an indirect impact on quality performance mediated through quality management capabilities. Originality/value – The discrepant findings in the literature suggest the need to identify contingencies that may govern the IT‐performance relationship. This study focuses on the interplay between information technology, quality management, and quality performanc

Human resources are the most important component of quality management. The total management quality has as an organizational philosophy the Japanese concept of “Kaizen” meaning the continuos improvement. In order to promote the improvement in quality it is necessary to have a general view, requiring understanding skill from managers, team spirit, understanding of change and its implementation in organization, that is continuos leadership.human resources management, quality management

Quality Management in Hospitals: Does it Contribute to High Quality of Care?

    Get PDF
Health policy-makers all around the world are facing the problem of ever-increasing costs in health care. In additio n, the demand for high quality care is greater than ever. Since there is no indication that these trends will stop in the near future, the policy-makers have to find methods to mitigate these problems. One possible solution is the development of efficient quality strategies, including external quality assessment and improvement systems that focus on clinical effectiveness, the implementation of evidence based practice, patient safety programs and clinical audit. The aim of this paper is to identify and summ arize research studies which investigate the impact of different quality strategies and quality improvement methods on healthcare activities and outcomes, and to determine if these are effective clinical methods or not. For this reason, a systematic search was carried out in various databases. The literature suggests that having an external quality assessment system does contribute to better health care. However, most of the studies focus on accreditation alone, and only three relatively low sample studies compare accreditation with ISO certification. Related to clinical-effectiveness, limited relevant results were found. Health policy-makers should consider different quality models as valid methods to provide high quality of care in hospitals, but they should also be aware that the clinical effectiveness of these has not yet been proven. More outcome-oriented, high sample studies should be carried out which compare one technique to another and find out if some of them could be implemented simultaneously
