An optimal factor analysis approach to improve the wavelet-based image resolution enhancement techniques
The existing wavelet-based image resolution enhancement techniques have many assumptions, such as limitation of the way to generate low-resolution images and the selection of wavelet functions, which limits their applications in different fields. This paper initially identifies the factors that effectively affect the performance of these techniques and quantitatively evaluates the impact of the existing assumptions. An approach called Optimal Factor Analysis employing the genetic algorithm is then introduced to increase the applicability and fidelity of the existing methods. Moreover, a new Figure of Merit is proposed to assist the selection of parameters and better measure the overall performance. The experimental results show that the proposed approach improves the performance of the selected image resolution enhancement methods and has potential to be extended to other methods
Mechanical properties of the concrete containing porcelain waste as sand
The demand of concrete have been increases on a daily bases which consume a lot of natural resource such as sand and gravel, there is an immediate need for finding suitable alternative which can be used to replace sand partially with another materials with high propor-tion . Ceramic waste is one of the strongest research areas that include the activity of replacement in all the sides of construction materi-als. This research aims to improve the performance of concrete using ceramic waste, and demonstrate the performance of mechanical properties to the concrete with partial replacement of sand by using waste porcelain. For these, we analyzed the mechanical properties of the concrete such as compressive strength, split tensile and flexural strength, the specimen were measured based on 10% ,20% ,30% ,40%, and 50% weight ratio of replace sand with waste porcelain at different time under water for 7 days , 28 days , 60 days . The optimum consideration were given to mechanical properties of the concrete, at different amount of ceramic waste as sand
Ion-Exchanged Glass Waveguide Technology: A Review
We review the history and current status of ion exchanged glass waveguide technology. The background of ion exchange in glass and key developments in the first years of research are briefly described. An overview of fabrication, characterization and modeling of waveguides is given and the most important waveguide devices and their applications are discussed. Ion exchanged waveguide technology has served as an available platform for studies of general waveguide properties, integrated optics structures and devices, as well as applications. It is also a commercial fabrication technology for both passive and active waveguide components
Communication channel analysis and real time compressed sensing for high density neural recording devices
Next generation neural recording and Brain-
Machine Interface (BMI) devices call for high density or distributed
systems with more than 1000 recording sites. As the
recording site density grows, the device generates data on the
scale of several hundred megabits per second (Mbps). Transmitting
such large amounts of data induces significant power
consumption and heat dissipation for the implanted electronics.
Facing these constraints, efficient on-chip compression techniques
become essential to the reduction of implanted systems power
consumption. This paper analyzes the communication channel
constraints for high density neural recording devices. This paper
then quantifies the improvement on communication channel
using efficient on-chip compression methods. Finally, This paper
describes a Compressed Sensing (CS) based system that can
reduce the data rate by > 10x times while using power on
the order of a few hundred nW per recording channel
Distinguishing sequences for partially specified FSMs
Distinguishing Sequences (DSs) are used inmany Finite State Machine (FSM) based test techniques. Although Partially Specified FSMs (PSFSMs) generalise FSMs, the computational complexity of constructing Adaptive and Preset DSs (ADSs/PDSs) for PSFSMs has not been addressed. This paper shows that it is possible to check the existence of an ADS in polynomial time but the corresponding problem for PDSs is PSPACE-complete. We also report on the results of experiments with benchmarks and over 8 * 106 PSFSMs. © 2014 Springer International Publishing
