Fil: Bodrati, Alejandro.
Abstract · Do perfumes attract toucans? Since 2011, Wildlife Conservation Society has implemented the use of two commercial perfumes (Chanel Nº 5 and Calvin Klein Obsession for Men) as bait in their camera traps, with the purpose of retaining the wild cats for longer in front of the cameras and improving the identification of individuals in Madidi National Park and Natural Area of Integral Management, Bolivia. This methodology has turned out to be very efficient, yielding not only a large number of photographs of several mammals, but also recording several bird species. One of the groups that had not been registered in 10 years of camera-trap sampling without perfume (2001–2009) were toucans (family Ramphastidae). Here we report observations that suggest that toucans are attracted by both perfumes. During six years of sampling (2011–2016), four species of toucans were detected by the camera-traps: Pteroglossus azara, Pteroglossus beauharnaesii, Ramphastos tucanus, and Ramphastos vitellinus, obtaining 550 photographs across 45 independent photographic events. The species with the highest number of photographs was R. tucanus (n = 231), followed by R. vitellinus (n = 219). Toucans were recorded within 3 m in 29% of cases, within 30 cm 29% of cases and making direct contact with the perfume jar in 42% of cases. Toucan-perfume interactions lasted up to 12.5 min maximum and a minimum of 0.5 min. We believe that these results are important contributions to the natural history of toucans and suggest an alternative for studies that require live capture
setiembre a marzo.
In the Villa Swamps, Lima, Peru, 211 species of birds have been registered and are included in
145 genera, 50 families and 21 orders. Regarding the seasonality, 97 species are residents and 114
are from other latitudes, which are divided into three groups: migratory, occasional and introduced.
The migratory species (82 species) differ in two groups: those that carry out horizontal migrations,
that come from the Nearctic Region (51 species) and the Austral Region (13 species), and the vertical
migratory ones that make altitudinal migrations and come from the Peruvian Andes (18 species);
and the occasional ones (31 species), which have been registered very rarely and which, although
not migratory, have been reported in the Villa Swamps. The migration of birds from the Nearctic
Region has a pattern of seasonal variation defined from September to March. And the records of the
migrations of the species coming from the Austral Region and the Andean Highlands Region show
that the seasonality patterns of them cover the period between May and August
The Pantanos de Villa Wildlife Refuge is incorporated into the National System of Protected Areas by the State

Diversity and guild structure of the Petit Saut bird community
Bird communities were sampled at different scales at Saint-Eugène and on the Petit Saut
dam reservoir between 1993 and 1996. Global bird species richness of the Petit Saut area (ca.
35 sq. km investigated) was estimated to be over 400 species, of which 342 were observed.
Relationships between species richness and surveyed area, sampling pressure, and habitat
diversity, are described. A majority of species showed low contact frequencies and low
abundance. Numerically dominant species on the mainland were also abundant on islands, but
islands had a different pool of dominant species. Migrants accounted for a very small
proportion of the community and were mainly aquatic birds, but the frequency of migrants in
primary rainforest may be underestimated. Community organization is described in terms of
guilds, feeding habits, habitats and social systems. Sixteen guilds can be identified.
Insectivores are dominant in the bird community. Most species inhabit terra firme forest, but
sorne guilds are preferentially associated with damp or liana forests. Thirty percent of the bird species live in single-species or mixed-species groups, in particular in canopy-, understory-,
or ant-following flocks. The ecological organization of the Petit Saut bird community is
similar to that found in other Guianan or Amazonian forest sites. Flooding of the reservoir
lead to a very slow increase of aquatic bird diversity and abundance, particularly of Sungrebe
(Heliornis fulica), while sightings of banks-dwelling species became scarceLes peuplements d'oiseaux ont été étudiés à Saint-Eugène et sur la retenue du barrage

ecuación: = − V = Vulnerabilidad S = Sensibilidad CA = Capacidad
Adaptativa.
