Automatic PCM guard-band selector and calibrator
Automatic method for selection of proper guard band eliminates human error and speeds up calibration process. There is also an option which allows a single channel to be calibrated, independently of other channels. Entire system is designed on 3- by 4-inch printed-circuit cards and may be used with any pulse code modulation system
A Study on Influence of Guard Band on Common-Mode Current Related to a Microstrip Line
Influence of guard band on common-mode (CM) current related to a microstrip line (trace) has been studied experimental and FDTD simulation. As the guard band, copper tape is connected along the entire edge of the ground plane. It is cleared that a guard band parallel to and near a trace is most effective in suppressing the CM current. An empirical formula to quantify the relationship between the position of a trace and CM current of the case with a guard band is proposed. Calculated results using the empirical formula and FDTD modeling are in good agreement, which indicates this empirical formula should be useful for developing EMI design guidelines
Channel equalization and interference analysis for uplink Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT)
We derive the uplink system model for In-band and Guard-band narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT). The results reveal that the actual channel frequency response (CFR) is not a simple Fourier transform of the channel impulse response, due to sampling rate mismatch between the NB-IoT user and Long Term Evolution (LTE) base station. Consequently, a new channel equalization algorithm is proposed based on the derived effective CFR. In addition, the interference is derived analytically to facilitate the co-existence of NB-IoT and LTE signals. This work provides an example and guidance to support network slicing and service multiplexing in the physical layer
Design of a 12 channel fm microwave receiver
The design, fabrication, and performance of elements of a low cost FM microwave satellite ground station receiver is described. It is capable of accepting 12 contiguous color television equivalent bandwidth channels in the 11.72 to 12.2 GHz band. Each channel is 40 MHz wide and incorporates a 4 MHz guard band. The modulation format is wideband FM and the channels are frequency division multiplexed. Twelve independent CATV compatible baseband outputs are provided. The overall system specifications are first discussed, then consideration is given to the receiver subsystems and the signal branching network
A Comparison of CP-OFDM, PCC-OFDM and UFMC for 5G Uplink Communications
Polynomial-cancellation-coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing
(PCC-OFDM) is a form of OFDM that has waveforms which are very well localized
in both the time and frequency domains and so it is ideally suited for use in
the 5G network. This paper analyzes the performance of PCC-OFDM in the uplink
of a multiuser system using orthogonal frequency division multiple access
(OFDMA) and compares it with conventional cyclic prefix OFDM (CP-OFDM), and
universal filtered multicarrier (UFMC). PCC-OFDM is shown to be much less
sensitive than either CP-OFDM or UFMC to time and frequency offsets. For a
given constellation size, PCC-OFDM in additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN)
requires 3dB lower signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for a given bit-error-rate, and
the SNR advantage of PCC-OFDM increases rapidly when there are timing and/or
frequency offsets. For PCC-OFDM no frequency guard band is required between
different OFDMA users. PCC-OFDM is completely compatible with CP-OFDM and adds
negligible complexity and latency, as it uses a simple mapping of data onto
pairs of subcarriers at the transmitter, and a simple weighting-and-adding of
pairs of subcarriers at the receiver. The weighting and adding step, which has
been omitted in some of the literature, is shown to contribute substantially to
the SNR advantage of PCC-OFDM. A disadvantage of PCC-OFDM (without overlapping)
is the potential reduction in spectral efficiency because subcarriers are
modulated in pairs, but this reduction is more than regained because no guard
band or cyclic prefix is required and because, for a given channel, larger
constellations can be used
