Good synchronization sequences for permutation codes
For communication schemes employing Frequency Hopping/Multiple Frequency Shift Keying modulation, we present an algorithm for finding good non-binary synchronization sequences, which are permutations, to be used with permutation codes to synchronize/resynchronize data in channels with background noise and interference(frequency jamming/fading). For the synchronization sequences, new analytical expressions for the probability of false acquisition are also given. Using simulation results, we show that our synchronization sequences perform better than some conventional non-binary synchronization sequences, in the presence of background noise and interference
Synchronization with permutation codes and Reed-Solomon codes
D.Ing. (Electrical And Electronic Engineering)We address the issue of synchronization, using sync-words (or markers), for encoded data. We focus on data that is encoded using permutation codes or Reed-Solomon codes. For each type of code (permutation code and Reed-Solomon code) we give a synchronization procedure or algorithm such that synchronization is improved compared to when the procedure is not employed. The gure of merit for judging the performance is probability of synchronization (acquisition). The word acquisition is used to indicate that a sync-word is acquired or found in the right place in a frame. A new synchronization procedure for permutation codes is presented. This procedure is about nding sync-words that can be used speci cally with permutation codes, such that acceptable synchronization performance is possible even under channels with frequency selective fading/jamming, such as the power line communication channel. Our new procedure is tested with permutation codes known as distance-preserving mappings (DPMs). DPMs were chosen because they have de ned encoding and decoding procedures. Another new procedure for avoiding symbols in Reed-Solomon codes is presented. We call the procedure symbol avoidance. The symbol avoidance procedure is then used to improve the synchronization performance of Reed-Solomon codes, where known binary sync-words are used for synchronization. We give performance comparison results, in terms of probability of synchronization, where we compare Reed-Solomon with and without symbol avoidance applied
Large Zero Autocorrelation Zone of Golay Sequences and -QAM Golay Complementary Sequences
Sequences with good correlation properties have been widely adopted in modern
communications, radar and sonar applications. In this paper, we present our new
findings on some constructions of single -ary Golay sequence and -QAM
Golay complementary sequence with a large zero autocorrelation zone, where
is an arbitrary even integer and is an arbitrary integer.
Those new results on Golay sequences and QAM Golay complementary sequences can
be explored during synchronization and detection at the receiver end and thus
improve the performance of the communication system
Combined permutation codes for synchronization
Abstract: A combined code is a code that combines two or more characteristics of other codes. A construction is presented in this paper of permutation codes that are self-synchronizing and able to correct a number of deletion errors per codeword, thus a combined permutation code. Synchronization errors, modelled as deletion(s) and/or insertion(s) of bits or symbols, can be catastrophic if not detected and corrected. Some classes of codes have been proposed that are synchronizable, i.e. they can be used to regain synchronization although the error leading to the loss of synchronization is not corrected. Typically, different classes of codes are needed to correct deletion and/or insertion errors after codeword boundaries have been detected. The codebooks presented in this paper consist of codewords divided into segments. By imposing restrictions on the segments, the codewords are synchronizable. One deletion error can be detected and corrected per segment
Re-synchronization of permutation codes with Viterbi-like decoding
Abstract: In this paper, we present a fast re-synchronization algorithm for permutation coded sequences. The new algorithm combines the dynamic algorithm and a Viterbi-like decoding algorithm for trellis codes. The new algorithm has a polynomial time complexity O(N), where N denotes the length of the sequence. A possible application to M-ary FSK for the CENELEC A band power-line communications (PLC) is considered
Design of tch-type sequences for communications
This thesis deals with the design of a class of cyclic codes inspired by TCH codewords.
Since TCH codes are linked to finite fields the fundamental concepts and facts about abstract
algebra, namely group theory and number theory, constitute the first part of the thesis.
By exploring group geometric properties and identifying an equivalence between some operations
on codes and the symmetries of the dihedral group we were able to simplify the generation
of codewords thus saving on the necessary number of computations. Moreover, we
also presented an algebraic method to obtain binary generalized TCH codewords of length
N = 2k, k = 1,2, . . . , 16. By exploring Zech logarithm’s properties as well as a group theoretic
isomorphism we developed a method that is both faster and less complex than what was
proposed before. In addition, it is valid for all relevant cases relating the codeword length N
and not only those resulting from N = p
