Results of precision processing (scene correction) of ERTS-1 images using digital image processing techniques

    Get PDF
ERTS-1 MSS and RBV data recorded on computer compatible tapes have been analyzed and processed, and preliminary results have been obtained. No degradation of intensity (radiance) information occurred in implementing the geometric correction. The quality and resolution of the digitally processed images are very good, due primarily to the fact that the number of film generations and conversions is reduced to a minimum. Processing times of digitally processed images are about equivalent to the NDPF electro-optical processor

INFORMATION SOCIETY: NEW CHALLENGES FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

The overall aim of this study is to identify the strengths and the opportunities, the weaknesses and the threats of information society that could enable the national and theinternational economies to achieve continuous improvement of quality of life both for currentand future generations, through the creation of sustainable communities able to manageresources efficiently and to tap the ecological and social innovation potential of the economy, ensuring prosperity, environmental protection, social cohesion and cultural diversity. Theauthors of this paper mean to harness the vast potential of ICTs to achieve the sustainabledevelopment aspirations, but also to pay attention to the limits of information society’sextending. Recognizing the importance of ICT as valuable assets for economic growth anddevelopment, world leaders should align their efforts towards building a development-oriented information society.Cuvinte cheie: sustainable development, e-commerce, e-government, cultural diversity

Multi-Lane Perception Using Feature Fusion Based on GraphSLAM

An extensive, precise and robust recognition and modeling of the environment is a key factor for next generations of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems and development of autonomous vehicles. In this paper, a real-time approach for the perception of multiple lanes on highways is proposed. Lane markings detected by camera systems and observations of other traffic participants provide the input data for the algorithm. The information is accumulated and fused using GraphSLAM and the result constitutes the basis for a multilane clothoid model. To allow incorporation of additional information sources, input data is processed in a generic format. Evaluation of the method is performed by comparing real data, collected with an experimental vehicle on highways, to a ground truth map. The results show that ego and adjacent lanes are robustly detected with high quality up to a distance of 120 m. In comparison to serial lane detection, an increase in the detection range of the ego lane and a continuous perception of neighboring lanes is achieved. The method can potentially be utilized for the longitudinal and lateral control of self-driving vehicles

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT MANAGEMENT AS A STRATEGIC OPTION

The need to ensure equity between generations emerges as a major defining part in ensuring equal opportunities, so that sustainable management is required in all aspects economic, social, environmental and ecological sustainable consumption and production, by directing all efforts in shaping and implementing a new ecological culture. Responsible approach for future generations, efficient use of natural, energy, materials and information resources, supposes in the same time the potentiation of functioning of a sustainable economy to meet the current needs of human society. This paper deals with specific elements of strategic management integrated in sustainable development management. There is a tendency of business environment that aspires to achieve economic development to improve living standards and to protect and improve the environment. Economic development is achieved not only for basic material needs, but also to provide resources to improve the quality of life in areas like health, education and a good environment. In this direction subscribe the priorities of economic pillar of sustainable development in our country as well as the marks of strategic management of sustainable development in Romania.sustainable development management, ecologic marketing, sustainable production and consumption, ecologic behavior, strategic management.

Statistical overview of birth, death and migration trends at EU level

RuralJobs is a collaborative research project partly funded under the European Commission Research and Development 7th Framework Program (FP7). It involves partner institutions from eight Member States. University of Debrecen is the coordinator. RuralJobs quantifies labour market, demographic and economic trends, and the impact of employment creation measures and policies in six, representative “reference areas” across the EU, and uses the information to demonstrate how rural development measures can be better targeted and how rural development policies should evolve. The Eurostat database was chosen as the main source of information for statistical analysis. The birth rates, death rates and the migration are described. According to a contemporary research the most important questions of the new generations of Europeans are: the quality of the health system, confrontation between generations on pensions, and the integration of immigrants which are closely related with employment issues

Examining the quality of knowledge transfers – the draft of an empirical research

    Get PDF
Already successfully used products or designs, past projects or our own experiences can be the basis for the development of new products. As reference products or existing knowledge, it is reused in the development process and across generations of products. Since further, products are developed in cooperation, the development of new product generations is characterized by knowledge-intensive processes in which information and knowledge are exchanged between different kinds of knowledge carriers. The particular knowledge transfer here describes the identification of knowledge, its transmission from the knowledge carrier to the knowledge receiver, and its application by the knowledge receiver, which includes embodied knowledge of physical products. Initial empirical findings of the quantitative effects regarding the speed of knowledge transfers already have been examined. However, the factors influencing the quality of knowledge transfer to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of knowledge transfer in product development have not yet been examined empirically. Therefore, this paper prepares an experimental setting for the empirical investigation of the quality of knowledge transfers

Genetic algorithms with guided and local search strategies for university course timetabling

This article is posted here with permission from the IEEE - Copyright @ 2011 IEEEThe university course timetabling problem (UCTP) is a combinatorial optimization problem, in which a set of events has to be scheduled into time slots and located into suitable rooms. The design of course timetables for academic institutions is a very difficult task because it is an NP-hard problem. This paper investigates genetic algorithms (GAs) with a guided search strategy and local search (LS) techniques for the UCTP. The guided search strategy is used to create offspring into the population based on a data structure that stores information extracted from good individuals of previous generations. The LS techniques use their exploitive search ability to improve the search efficiency of the proposed GAs and the quality of individuals. The proposed GAs are tested on two sets of benchmark problems in comparison with a set of state-of-the-art methods from the literature. The experimental results show that the proposed GAs are able to produce promising results for the UCTP.This work was supported by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council of U.K. under Grant EP/E060722/1
