Fuzzy-based Propagation of Prior Knowledge to Improve Large-Scale Image Analysis Pipelines
Many automatically analyzable scientific questions are well-posed and offer a
variety of information about the expected outcome a priori. Although often
being neglected, this prior knowledge can be systematically exploited to make
automated analysis operations sensitive to a desired phenomenon or to evaluate
extracted content with respect to this prior knowledge. For instance, the
performance of processing operators can be greatly enhanced by a more focused
detection strategy and the direct information about the ambiguity inherent in
the extracted data. We present a new concept for the estimation and propagation
of uncertainty involved in image analysis operators. This allows using simple
processing operators that are suitable for analyzing large-scale 3D+t
microscopy images without compromising the result quality. On the foundation of
fuzzy set theory, we transform available prior knowledge into a mathematical
representation and extensively use it enhance the result quality of various
processing operators. All presented concepts are illustrated on a typical
bioimage analysis pipeline comprised of seed point detection, segmentation,
multiview fusion and tracking. Furthermore, the functionality of the proposed
approach is validated on a comprehensive simulated 3D+t benchmark data set that
mimics embryonic development and on large-scale light-sheet microscopy data of
a zebrafish embryo. The general concept introduced in this contribution
represents a new approach to efficiently exploit prior knowledge to improve the
result quality of image analysis pipelines. Especially, the automated analysis
of terabyte-scale microscopy data will benefit from sophisticated and efficient
algorithms that enable a quantitative and fast readout. The generality of the
concept, however, makes it also applicable to practically any other field with
processing strategies that are arranged as linear pipelines.Comment: 39 pages, 12 figure

A survey of fuzzy rule-based image segmentation techniques
This paper describes the various fuzzy rule based techniques for image segmentation. Fuzzy rule based segmentation techniques can incorporate domain expert knowledge and manipulate numerical as well as linguistic data. They are also capable of drawing partial inference using fuzzy IF-THEN rules. For these reasons they have been extensively applied in medical imaging. But these rules are application domain specific and it is very difficult to define the rules either manually or automatically so that the segementation can be achieved successfully
Land cover classification using fuzzy rules and aggregation of contextual information through evidence theory
Land cover classification using multispectral satellite image is a very
challenging task with numerous practical applications. We propose a multi-stage
classifier that involves fuzzy rule extraction from the training data and then
generation of a possibilistic label vector for each pixel using the fuzzy rule
base. To exploit the spatial correlation of land cover types we propose four
different information aggregation methods which use the possibilistic class
label of a pixel and those of its eight spatial neighbors for making the final
classification decision. Three of the aggregation methods use Dempster-Shafer
theory of evidence while the remaining one is modeled after the fuzzy k-NN
rule. The proposed methods are tested with two benchmark seven channel
satellite images and the results are found to be quite satisfactory. They are
also compared with a Markov random field (MRF) model-based contextual
classification method and found to perform consistently better.Comment: 14 pages, 2 figure
GENETIC FUZZY FILTER BASED ON MAD AND ROAD TO REMOVE MIXED IMPULSE NOISE
In this thesis, a genetic fuzzy image filtering based on rank-ordered absolute
differences (ROAD) and median of the absolute deviations from the median (MAD) is
proposed. The proposed method consists of three components, including fuzzy noise
detection system, fuzzy switching scheme filtering, and fuzzy parameters
optimization using genetic algorithms (GA) to perform efficient and effective noise
removal. Our idea is to utilize MAD and ROAD as measures of noise probability of a
pixel. Fuzzy inference system is used to justify the degree of which a pixel can be
categorized as noisy. Based on the fuzzy inference result, the fuzzy switching scheme
that adopts median filter as the main estimator is applied to the filtering. The GA
training aims to find the best parameters for the fuzzy sets in the fuzzy noise
detection.
From the experimental results, the proposed method has successfully removed
mixed impulse noise in low to medium probabilities, while keeping the uncorrupted
pixels less affected by the median filtering. It also surpasses the other methods, either
classical or soft computing-based approaches to impulse noise removal, in MAE and
PSNR evaluations. It can also remove salt-and-pepper and uniform impulse noise

A Novel Edge Detection Algorithm for Mobile Robot Path Planning
A novel detection algorithm for vision systems has been proposed based on combined fuzzy image processing and bacterial algorithm. This combination aims to increase the detection efficiency and reduce the computational time. In addition, the proposed algorithm has been tested through real-time robot navigation system, where it has been applied to detect the robot and obstacles in unstructured environment and generate 2D maps. These maps contain the starting and destination points in addition to current positions of the robot and obstacles. Moreover, the genetic algorithm (GA) has been modified and applied to produce time-based trajectory for the optimal path. It is based on proposing and enhancing the searching ability of the robot to move towards the optimal path solution. Many scenarios have been adopted in indoor environment to verify the capability of the new algorithm in terms of detection efficiency and computational time
Impulse Noise Removal Using Soft-computing
Image restoration has become a powerful domain now a days. In numerous real life applications Image restoration is important field because where image quality matters it existed like astronomical imaging, defense application, medical imaging and security systems. In real life applications normally image quality disturbed due to image acquisition problems like satellite system images cannot get statically as source and object both moving so noise occurring. Image restoration process involves to deal with that corrupted image. Degradation model used to train filtering techniques for both detection and removal of noise phase. This degeneration is usually the result of excess scar or noise. Standard impulse noise injection techniques are used for standard images. Early noise removal techniques perform better for simple kind of noise but have some deficiencies somewhere in sense of detection or removal process, so our focus is on soft computing techniques non classic algorithmic approach and using (ANN) artificial neural networks. These Fuzzy rules-based techniques performs better than traditional filtering techniques in sense of edge preservation
Interval Logic Tensor Networks
In this paper, we introduce Interval Real Logic (IRL), a two-sorted logic
that interprets knowledge such as sequential properties (traces) and event
properties using sequences of real-featured data. We interpret connectives
using fuzzy logic, event durations using trapezoidal fuzzy intervals, and fuzzy
temporal relations using relationships between the intervals' areas. We propose
Interval Logic Tensor Networks (ILTN), a neuro-symbolic system that learns by
propagating gradients through IRL. In order to support effective learning, ILTN
defines smoothened versions of the fuzzy intervals and temporal relations of
IRL using softplus activations. We show that ILTN can successfully leverage
knowledge expressed in IRL in synthetic tasks that require reasoning about
events to predict their fuzzy durations. Our results show that the system is
capable of making events compliant with background temporal knowledge
Automated image inspection using wavelet decomposition and fuzzy rule-based classifier
A general purpose image inspecting system has been developed for automatic flaw detection in industrial applications. The system has a general purpose image understanding architecture that performs local feature extraction and supervised classification. Local features of an image are extracted from the compactly supported wavelet transform of the image. The features extracted from the wavelet transform provide local harmonic analysis and multi-resolution representation of the image. Image segmentation is achieved by classifying image pixels based on features extracted within a local area near each pixel. The supervised classifier used in the segmentation process is a fuzzy rule-based classifier which is established from the training data. The fuzzy rule base that is used to control the performance of the classifier is optimized by combining similar training data into the same rule. Therefore an optimization is achieved for the established rule base to provide the maximum amount of information with the minimum amount of rules. The experimental results show that the features extracted from the wavelet decomposition give contextual information for the test images. The optimized fuzzy rule-based classifier gives the best performance in both the training and the classification stages. Flaws in the test images are detected automatically by the computer
