Generation alpha at the intersection of technology, play and motivation

    Get PDF
This paper considers the intersection of technology and play through the novel approach of gamification and its application to early years education. The intrinsic connection between play and technology is becoming increasingly significant in early years education. By creating an awareness of the early years adoption of technology into guiding frameworks, and then exploring the makeup of gaming elements, this paper draws connections for guiding principles in adopting more technology-focused play opportunities for Generation Alpha

Teaching Programming Using the Robot-Based Learning Approach

    Get PDF
This paper discusses learning theories, STEM, educational robotics as well as the current generation of students found in classrooms by reviewing previous and current academic literature on these topics, to assist in ascertaining the current advancements and theories related to the Robot-based learning approach as well as how these advancements have helped improve this approach and enabled educators to better make use of it. Furthermore, this paper reviews previous academic literature on computer programming to discuss the current learning approaches in use and the kind of learning tools being utilized. Once this topics are reviewed the reader can have a clear picture of the learning approach, what learning theory does it belong too, the type of students found in the classroom as well as what motivates them and the subject that is being taught as well as the different learning tools for this subject. The reader will also learn why improving the effectiveness of how programming is learned helps create more students good in STEM and how it assists in realising the Malaysian Educational Development Plan. This paper reviewed literature from the year 2014 and above as the information is more relevant and current, except for literature that is from a leading or renowned individual in any field that is being discussed in this dissertation

The Iray Light Transport Simulation and Rendering System

While ray tracing has become increasingly common and path tracing is well understood by now, a major challenge lies in crafting an easy-to-use and efficient system implementing these technologies. Following a purely physically-based paradigm while still allowing for artistic workflows, the Iray light transport simulation and rendering system allows for rendering complex scenes by the push of a button and thus makes accurate light transport simulation widely available. In this document we discuss the challenges and implementation choices that follow from our primary design decisions, demonstrating that such a rendering system can be made a practical, scalable, and efficient real-world application that has been adopted by various companies across many fields and is in use by many industry professionals today

Objective: The COVID-19 pandemic is a turning point for Generation Alpha. This study was conducted to determine parents’ views of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their Generation Alpha children. Material and Method: This descriptive, comparative, and cross‐sectional study was conducted on 395 parents of Generation Alpha children between January 10 and March 10, 2021. Data were collected using a parent and child sociodemographic form and a questionnaire for generation alpha during the COVID-19 pandemic. Descriptive statistics and paired sample t-test were used for analysis. Effect size was calculated using Cohen's d method. Results: Less than a quarter of the parents stated the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their children was “fear” (22.8%). Less than half the parents noted that the positive impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their children was “togetherness” (39.5%). According to parents, their Generation Alpha children spent significantly more time on social media (t = -8.647, p<0.001, effect size = 0.70) and watching TV (t = -9.324, p<0.001, effect size = 0.70) during the pandemic than before the pandemic. Conclusion: The COVID-19 pandemic will shape the life and transform the characteristics of the members of Generation Alpha. Authorities should provide parents with training and counseling about Generation Alpha. Moreover, professionals and educators should provide Generation Alpha children with education and career guidance to help them shape their own future

Collaborative Learning for Early Childhood Education

If starting school at the age of seven was considered sufficient in the past, many parents now start their children at the age of toddlers. As a result, the teacher’s role is critical because it serves as a substitute for parents. Preschool teachers must be able to monitor children’s growth and development in addition to teaching because it affects their future. Parents and teachers must pay adequate attention and affection, educate, guide, and set a good example. Students collaborate in groups to achieve the common goal of each idea through collaborative learning. This aligns with the skills required in the 21st century, namely the 4Cs (creative thinking, critical thinking and problem-solving, communication, and collaboration). The research method employs descriptive qualitative research to describe early childhood teachers’ perceptions of collaborative learning’s current implementation. The participants in the study were 23 teachers who had implemented collaborative learning. Keywords: kw

Customer Profiling of Alpha: The Next Generation Marketing

    Get PDF
Alpha generation plays a significant role in today’s market as firms are supposed to accumulate and store enormous data for better selling. Alpha is the customer next who needs to be targeted by the producers as they tend to influence their parent’s decision making. Literature suggests that Alpha Generation will influence the buying patterns, technology, education, markets, and other factors of the economy, but this fact is still at its infancy stage and under-researched. Adapting the framework of social learning theory, the current paper attempts to capture and compile the traits posed by Alpha Generation predominantly in the field of marketing

A preliminary study of the relationship between complexity, motivation, and design quality.

This collection of work comprises a preliminary study of the relationships between product complexity, design motivation, and design quality. Complexity, as it relates to the design process, is largely undefined and there exists no generally accepted method of measurement. This study applies an independent data set to a complexity measurement technique and develops complexity measurements at the pre and post design stages. Pre design is considered when design ideas are in formation and customer needs are being addressed. Post design is considered when a functional prototype is realized, manufacturing and assembly processes have been considered, and the product design is considered finalized. Developing complexity measurements for both stages of design are critical to realizing lean design development. Additionally, this study investigates the effects of personal motivation on design quality outcomes. Taking from the field of sociology, a survey tool is utilized to gauge an individuals’ motivation toward design as a serious leisure activity. Serious leisure is considered an activity in which participants glean an internal reward, pleasure, or satisfaction from participation. Utilizing a proposed design quality survey, this study determines quality metrics based on customer needs, manufacturability, serviceability, and product fit and finish, and considers quality to be the ultimate measure of a design. The intersection of complexity, personal motivation, and design quality is of particular interest in this study, as it may provide insight into engineering team dynamics as it relates to design outcomes
