Freedom of Association, Social Cohesion and Welfare
How does freedom of association shape social cohesion, individual
behavior and welfare, in heterogeneous populations? To answer this question, we
develop a theoretical model and conduct experiments with human subjects. We
study a network formation and action choice game in which individuals benefit
from selecting the same action as their neighbours. However, one group of
individuals prefers to coordinate on one action, while the rest prefers to coordinate
on the other action.Universidad de Málaga. Campus de Excelencia Internacional AndalucĂa Tech
Dose intercomparisons between computer planning, in-vivo and phantom measurements for Iridium-192 HDR Brachytherapy
During gynaecological high-dose rate (HDR) intracavitary brachytherapy (ICBT), invivo dosimetry is done to monitor the dose received by the bladder and rectum. This study was aimed at validating the need to do in-vivo dosimetry during ICBT. Thirty patients were recruited to participate in the study. Treatment setup data from the thirty patients was used to reproduce applicator and in-vivo diode treatment setups in a water phantom. Radiation doses administered to the patients were replicated in the water phantom to measure the doses at marked dose reference positions
Valuation of oyster reef restoration along the Gulf Coast
The objective of this study is to estimate the willingness to pay of U.S. Gulf Coast residents to support oyster reef restoration. The Gulf Coast is the leading commercial oyster- producing region in the United States, accounting for approximately 46% of the total commercial oyster harvest in 2021. My benefit estimates were based on data obtained from a contingent valuation survey of 6,475 Gulf Coast respondents. I estimated the willingness to pay (WTP) for oyster reef restoration using interval regression and Turnbull lower-bound methods. The estimated mean WTP value is in the range of 436 per household. The results show respondents who eat oysters and those that hold saltwater fishing licenses have significantly higher WTP
