    User Adoption of Enterprise Resource Planning Systems in the Public Sector

    The importance of aligning information technology and business strategies to exploit capabilities and change business practices has increased as firms strive for competitive advantage in a diverse and changing marketplace. Nevertheless, over 50% of firms implementing enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems ranked expected process and value enhancements as inadequate, whereas only 13% indicated that implementations met their needs. The unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) model formed the conceptual framework of this single case study. The study comprised a purposeful sampling of 8 business managers in Southeast Alabama working in related job roles and based on established eligibility criteria. Data collection involved semistructured interviews, casual observations, and document analysis. Through method triangulation and predetermined themes directly related to the UTAUT conceptual framework, 5 themes emerged: management endorsement, change management, training and education, dedicated resources, and governance. Results of this research may influence the elimination of key barriers central in the deployment and adoption of ERP systems by the public sector. The study\u27s implications for positive social change include the potential to enhance social and intellectual capital formation through recognizing strategies that mitigate employees\u27 gender and age variances during an ERP implementation

    ERP implementation methodologies and frameworks: a literature review

    Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) implementation is a complex and vibrant process, one that involves a combination of technological and organizational interactions. Often an ERP implementation project is the single largest IT project that an organization has ever launched and requires a mutual fit of system and organization. Also the concept of an ERP implementation supporting business processes across many different departments is not a generic, rigid and uniform concept and depends on variety of factors. As a result, the issues addressing the ERP implementation process have been one of the major concerns in industry. Therefore ERP implementation receives attention from practitioners and scholars and both, business as well as academic literature is abundant and not always very conclusive or coherent. However, research on ERP systems so far has been mainly focused on diffusion, use and impact issues. Less attention has been given to the methods used during the configuration and the implementation of ERP systems, even though they are commonly used in practice, they still remain largely unexplored and undocumented in Information Systems research. So, the academic relevance of this research is the contribution to the existing body of scientific knowledge. An annotated brief literature review is done in order to evaluate the current state of the existing academic literature. The purpose is to present a systematic overview of relevant ERP implementation methodologies and frameworks as a desire for achieving a better taxonomy of ERP implementation methodologies. This paper is useful to researchers who are interested in ERP implementation methodologies and frameworks. Results will serve as an input for a classification of the existing ERP implementation methodologies and frameworks. Also, this paper aims also at the professional ERP community involved in the process of ERP implementation by promoting a better understanding of ERP implementation methodologies and frameworks, its variety and history

    Modelling Intention to Use ERP Systems among Higher Education Institutions in Egypt: UTAUT Perspective

    Firms strive to achieve the sustainable competitive advantage in diverse and changing marketplaces. Coping with such circumstances has required firms to align information technology with business strategy in order to exploit their capabilities and change business practices. In this regard, an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system has become increasingly important for organizations to build strong capabilities, improve operational performance, enhance business decision making and compete in a global business context. In other words, an ERP system integrates an organizations resources and also involves business processes and organizational changes. With the ubiquitous growth of IS investment, implementation of ERP systems has grown strongly. Recently, Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) have started to adopt ERP systems. An example is Egypt, where they have done so to increase their competitiveness in the global market. However, historically, ERP implementation has been shown to have a high failure rate, which is one of the main reasons users resist using the ERP system. Conversely, users acceptance of the ERP system is the key to the ERP implementation. Thus, this study attempts to find out the important factors that affect end users intention to use the ERP system during the pre-implementation phase of the ERP lifecycle in the higher education context. The Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) with minor adjustments is the basis of this study. Ultimately, the findings of this research could enrich employees' experience by giving HEIs a tool for better understanding those factors affecting their ability to effectively utilize ERP systems. The proposed model has the ability to enhance the current level of the motivating factors influencing employees motivation to utilize ERP systems

    Semantic discovery and reuse of business process patterns

    Patterns currently play an important role in modern information systems (IS) development and their use has mainly been restricted to the design and implementation phases of the development lifecycle. Given the increasing significance of business modelling in IS development, patterns have the potential of providing a viable solution for promoting reusability of recurrent generalized models in the very early stages of development. As a statement of research-in-progress this paper focuses on business process patterns and proposes an initial methodological framework for the discovery and reuse of business process patterns within the IS development lifecycle. The framework borrows ideas from the domain engineering literature and proposes the use of semantics to drive both the discovery of patterns as well as their reuse

    A business simulator for reality mining

    The paper invites interested teachers, researchers and practitioners to share insights and suggestions for development of a data generator/business simulator for reality mining data, to be used in e.g. ERP, BI and DW classes. The proposed setting for the simulation is a shopping mall, a facility known to most students. Using Bloom’s revised taxonomy as a framework for ensuring that student learning outcomes also are considered, the finished “package” will both contain the simulator, an initial set of exercises for student engagement, and academic discussion forums on further development of application and teaching cases. Building on results from a 2014 prototype, student interview data supports the many positive effects of business simulation in IT education found in literature. A new, very basic prototype will be built in 2015, constructed with great flexibility to embrace community input.     Use of Modified Technology Acceptance Models to E-business for MSMEs

    Many MSMEs in Indonesia have used e-business including, websites, social media, e-commerce, and Enterprise Requirement Planning (ERP). The aspects that need to be considered include resource management, finance, procurement, logistics, to operational activities. In addition, the challenges that must be faced by MSMEs, in external conditions, must reduce the physical distance to cope with the spread of Covid-19. Due to the outbreak, MSMEs have been compelled to employ alternative methods that must be created and implemented to keep business processes functioning. Therefore, what factors can affect the acceptance of technology that is perceived by MSME owners to adjust their business needs. This research aims to modify TAM for e-business users, especially in MSMEs, to analyze the factors affecting the technology adoption process. The research method used is to build models and indicators from previous studies. However, as discussed in model development, three external variables were added: perceived cost, perceived risk, and facilitating conditions. The next stage is to conduct empirical research using a google form for MSME owners. Based on this framework, we propose a model for research propositions and contributions to scientific studies

    Appropriating Enterprise Resource Planning Systems in Colleges of Business: Extending Adaptive Stucturation Theory for Testability

    Enterprise resource planning systems are a form of advanced information technology that is quickly becoming commonplace in colleges of business. The nature of software, industry involvement, and academe influences how enterprise resource planning systems are integrated into business education processes. The appropriation of these systems in an academic setting involves a great deal of change, which, if not carefully considered, could result in failure to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes for students, the academic institution and industry stakeholders. Adaptive structuration theory provides a conceptual change model that helps capture the longitudinal change process. In order to provide a better understanding of the periods of routine use at the center of adaptive structuration theory, we introduce theory from the concerns-based adoption model. We integrate aspects of these two theories in the academic setting to provide a theoretical framework that explains the enterprise resource planning systems appropriation process and provide a method for studying the utilization of advanced information technologies for educational purposes. This framework may also be used as a practical means of identifying and considering appropriation issues when planning and evaluating enterprise resource planning systems usage in the classroom

    Adoption and Implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP): An Empirical Study

    The study is an attempt to unearth the current state of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) adoption and implementation in both manufacturing and service firms. Drawing on the conceptualization of multiple theories based in technology acceptance and innovation diffusion model, this study examines the above objectives with a particular reference to the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT). Following the deductive reasoning approach, we applied a self-administered questionnaire survey and used 235 replies from 255 collected responses, leaving the data affected with missing and un-matched responses. The result is applied using the structural equation modeling via SmartPLS 2, a second generation regression model, for testing hypothesized relationships. Findings reveal that all the hypothesized influences are found significantly linked through the explanatory variables with the endogenous variables at different levels of significance, except the impact of effort efficiency and resistance to change. Policy implications are also proposed for the full adoption and utilization of ERP to achieve sustainable development goals. Furthermore, we recommend future researchers to focus on action research or experimental data for preventing the generalizability of the observed results
