A New Vehicle Localization Scheme Based on Combined Optical Camera Communication and Photogrammetry
The demand for autonomous vehicles is increasing gradually owing to their
enormous potential benefits. However, several challenges, such as vehicle
localization, are involved in the development of autonomous vehicles. A simple
and secure algorithm for vehicle positioning is proposed herein without
massively modifying the existing transportation infrastructure. For vehicle
localization, vehicles on the road are classified into two categories: host
vehicles (HVs) are the ones used to estimate other vehicles' positions and
forwarding vehicles (FVs) are the ones that move in front of the HVs. The FV
transmits modulated data from the tail (or back) light, and the camera of the
HV receives that signal using optical camera communication (OCC). In addition,
the streetlight (SL) data are considered to ensure the position accuracy of the
HV. Determining the HV position minimizes the relative position variation
between the HV and FV. Using photogrammetry, the distance between FV or SL and
the camera of the HV is calculated by measuring the occupied image area on the
image sensor. Comparing the change in distance between HV and SLs with the
change in distance between HV and FV, the positions of FVs are determined. The
performance of the proposed technique is analyzed, and the results indicate a
significant improvement in performance. The experimental distance measurement
validated the feasibility of the proposed scheme
Opportunistic Localization Scheme Based on Linear Matrix Inequality
Enabling self-localization of mobile nodes is an important problem that has been widely studied in the literature.
The general conclusions is that an accurate localization
requires either sophisticated hardware (GPS, UWB, ultrasounds transceiver) or a dedicated infrastructure (GSM, WLAN). In this paper we tackle the problem from a different and rather new perspective: we investigate how localization performance can be improved by means of a cooperative and opportunistic data exchange among the nodes. We consider a target node, completely unaware of its own position, and a number of mobile nodes with some self-localization capabilities. When the opportunity occurs, the target node can exchange data with in-range mobile nodes. This opportunistic data exchange is then used by the target node to refine its position estimate by using a technique based on Linear Matrix Inequalities and barycentric algorithm. To investigate the performance of such an opportunistic localization algorithm, we define a simple mathematical model that describes the opportunistic interactions and, then, we run several computer simulations for analyzing the effect of the nodes duty-cycle and of the native self-localization error modeling considered. The results show that the opportunistic interactions can actually improve the self-localization accuracy of a strayed node in many different scenarios
AMCTD: Adaptive Mobility of Courier nodes in Threshold-optimized DBR Protocol for Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks
In dense underwater sensor networks (UWSN), the major confronts are high
error probability, incessant variation in topology of sensor nodes, and much
energy consumption for data transmission. However, there are some remarkable
applications of UWSN such as management of seabed and oil reservoirs,
exploration of deep sea situation and prevention of aqueous disasters. In order
to accomplish these applications, ignorance of the limitations of acoustic
communications such as high delay and low bandwidth is not feasible. In this
paper, we propose Adaptive mobility of Courier nodes in Threshold-optimized
Depth-based routing (AMCTD), exploring the proficient amendments in depth
threshold and implementing the optimal weight function to achieve longer
network lifetime. We segregate our scheme in 3 major phases of weight updating,
depth threshold variation and adaptive mobility of courier nodes. During data
forwarding, we provide the framework for alterations in threshold to cope with
the sparse condition of network. We ultimately perform detailed simulations to
scrutinize the performance of our proposed scheme and its comparison with other
two notable routing protocols in term of network lifetime and other essential
parameters. The simulations results verify that our scheme performs better than

Leak localization in water distribution networks using a mixed model-based/data-driven approach

In a first stage, residuals are obtained by comparing pressure measurements with the estimations provided by a WDN model. In a second stage, a classifier is applied to the residuals with the aim of determining the leak location. The classifier is trained with data generated by simulation of the WDN under different leak scenarios and uncertainty conditions. The proposed method is tested both by using synthetic and experimental data with real WDNs of different sizes. A Multi-hop Topology Control Based on Inter-node Range Measurement for Wireless Sensor Networks Node Localization
In centralized range-based localization techniques, sufficiency of inter-node range information received by the base station strongly affects node position estimation results. Successful data aggregation is influenced by link stability of each connection of routes, especially in a multi-hop topology model. In general, measuring the inter-node range is only performed for position determination purposes. This research introduces the use of inter-node range measurement information for link selection in a multi-hop route composition in order to increase the rate of data aggregation. Due to irregularity problems of wireless media, two areas of node communication have been considered. The regular communication area is the area in which other nodes are able to perform symmetrical communication to the node without failure. The irregular area is the area in which other nodes are seldom able to communicate. Due to its instability, some existing methods tried to avoid the irregular area completely. The proposed method, named Virtual Boundaries (VBs) prioritizes these areas. The regular communication area’s nodes have high priority to be selected as link vertices; however, when there is no link candidate inside this area, nodes within the irregular area will be selected with respect to their range to the parent node. This technique resulted in a more robust multi-hop topology that can reduce isolated node numbers and increase the percentage of data collected by the base station accordingly
