Gauge coupling unification and light Exotica in String Theory

In this letter we consider the consequences for the LHC of light vector-like exotica with fractional electric charge. It is shown that such states are found in orbifold constructions of the heterotic string. Moreover, these exotica are consistent with gauge coupling unification at one loop, even though they do not come in complete multiplets of SU(5).Comment: 5 pages, no figure

On a possibility of baryonic exotica

Models based on chiral symmetry predict pentaquarks that have relatively low masses. We briefly review both theoretical and experimental status of exotica in the light sector. Next, shall show how to extend chiral models to baryons with one heavy quark and show that one expects exotica also in this case. Finally, we interpret recently discovered by the LHCb collaboration five Ωc\Omega^*_c resonances in terms of regular and exotic excitations of the ground state Ωc\Omega_c.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, talk at the the 2nd Jagiellonian Symposium on Fundamental and Applied Subatomic Physics, June 3-11, 2017, Krakow, Poland. Exoticism presents fantasy constructs of Otherness which make up a discourse of problematic “truths.” This discourse is reflected and perpetuated in culture-items (art, literature, music, etc.) which can be identified as “exotica.” On one level, exotica simply reinforces these “truths,” but it also offers potential revelations relating to the exotic construct itself, a collection of fictions so elaborate and vast that it may be said to have its own history. Exotica can be described as the reflexive form of that alternate history; it is also a fantasy zone which reveals a desire on the part of the exoticizer to escape the reality of the present and identify oneself with the Other. Because the Other ultimately emanates from ourselves, I posit there is much learn from an appreciative study of exotica. With an understanding of the history, formal components, and linguistic concepts which make up exotica, I explore a way of making work that immerses itself in the exotic discourse and cannibalizes its various manifestations. The resulting work itself belongs on an exotica timeline; it simultaneously replicates the effects of exotica, functions as a critique or analysis, and presents a particular reading of culture and history which argues via juxtaposition the similarity and interconnectedness of various disparate aspects of the exotic discourse

    Chondroprotective Activity of Murraya exotica

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease that affects millions of people. Currently, there is no effective drug treatment for it. The purpose of this study is to investigate the chondroprotective effects of Murraya exotica (L.) on OA. The rat OA models were duplicated to prepare for separating OA chondrocytes, synovial fluid (SF), and serum containing M. exotica (50 mg/kg, 100 mg/kg, and 200 mg/kg), M. exotica showed the activity of decreasing the contents of TNF-α and IL-1β in SF and the chondrocyte apoptosis in a dose-dependent manner. To investigate the probable mechanism, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and western blotting were used to determine gene expression and protein profiles, respectively. The results reveal that M. exotica can downregulate mRNA and protein expressions of β-catenin and COX-2 and reporter activity significantly. Conclusively, M. exotica exhibits antiapoptotic chondroprotective activity probably through inhibiting β-catenin signaling

Heavy baryon decay widths in the large N_{c} limit in chiral theory

Abstract We propose large NcN_c Nc generalizations for the “diquark” representations of SU(3)flav\hbox {SU}(3)_\mathrm{flav} SU(3)flav relevant for positive parity heavy baryons, including putative exotic states. Next, within the framework of the Chiral Quark Soliton Model, we calculate heavy baryon masses and decay widths. We show that in the limit of NcN_c \rightarrow \infty Nc→∞ all decay widths vanish, including the widths of exotica. This result is in fact more general than the model itself, as it relies only on the underlying symmetries: i.e. SU(3)flav\hbox {SU}(3)_\mathrm{flav} SU(3)flav and hedgehog symmetry. Furthermore, using explicit model formulae for the decay constants in the non-realtivistic limit, we show that there is a hierarchy of the decay couplings, which may explain observed pattern of experimental widths
