Everything You Always Wanted to Know about Synchronization but Were Afraid to Ask

This paper presents the most exhaustive study of synchronization to date. We span multiple layers, from hardware cache-coherence protocols up to high-level concurrent software. We do so on different types of architectures, from single-socket - uniform and non-uniform - to multi-socket - directory and broadcast-based - many-cores. We draw a set of observations that, roughly speaking, imply that scalability of synchronization is mainly a property of the hardware. © 2013 ACM

The Past And Pending Using Cinema As A Dialogue To Break Down Walls In Communication

The Past and Pending is a feature-length documentary by Samuel Eliot Torres, made as part of the requirements for earning a Master of Fine Arts in Film & Digital Media from the University of Central Florida. The film focuses on a family torn apart by a major decision to migrate to the U.S. from Puerto Rico. The protagonist, Torres, is now trying to receive closure from the events by asking the questions he could not ask as a child, but feels compelled to ask as an adult. Filming with only one person in the crew allowed for an intimacy and spontaneity that is prized by entrepreneurial digital cinema makers. Without the financial and scheduling constraints of enlisting a large crew, the film was allowed to thrive with a spontaneous and ongoing shooting schedule, controlled entirely by one person

Vehicle to Everything Communication using VLC

Autonomous vehicles are currently self contained. However, we are coming to an age where there will be so many smart vehicles on the road, they will need a way to communicate with each other. In addition, the radio frequency spectrum is crowded and additional communication methods are needed to keep up with future needs. With these two ideas, this paper looks into a very new and developing form of communication - visible light communication - to provide an alternative to traditional radio waves for vehicular communication. We analyze the viability of this system as a proof-of-concept for the technology. We also present a design-prototype of a VLC vehicular transmitter and receiver to establish a wireless communication channel. We hope that our work can help provide a foundation for such a system being used in vehicles in a connected network

The character and script analysis is revealed through journal entries and will be discussed as the analysis was put into use in the rehearsal process. The production of The Adding Machine opened Nov 11, 2011 and ran until Nov 20, 2011. The rehearsal process began on Sep 21, 2011. Juntas will follow the journey of Pilar Nieto and Vanessa Delgado, two young girls on the precipice of discovering themselves amid trying times in their lives. Pilar’s family is a traditional Mexican family with traditional values. Vanessa’s only family is her brother Frankie—who takes it upon himself to raise her with the same values he was brought up with before the sudden death of their parents. When Vanessa moves to Eagle Pass, she meets Pilar, and what starts out as a friendship slowly grows into something neither one of them could anticipate happening.
