Software test automation : a design and tool selection approach for a heterogeneous environment
textThis report describes a design approach for implementing a software test automation solution that can accommodate existing test processes in an organization. The process of implementing a software test automation solution is a large undertaking and requires careful planning to avoid unsuccessful implementations. This report outlines a design that can integrate with existing business and development processes in an organization, and recommends automation and development frameworks for achieving the test automation goals.
Considerations for a heterogeneous test environment with varying types of supported operating systems, such as Windows and Linux, and multiple test execution environments, such as Java and .NET, have been made in this design and in the tool selections for the system implementation. The report also describes some of the challenges and caveats of automation in a heterogeneous environment along with recommended solutions to these challenges.Electrical and Computer Engineerin
Hierarchical clustered register file organization for VLIW processors
Technology projections indicate that wire delays will become one of the biggest constraints in future microprocessor designs. To avoid long wire delays and therefore long cycle times, processor cores must be partitioned into components so that most of the communication is done locally. In this paper, we propose a novel register file organization for VLIW cores that combines clustering with a hierarchical register file organization. Functional units are organized in clusters, each one with a local first level register file. The local register files are connected to a global second level register file, which provides access to memory. All intercluster communications are done through the second level register file. This paper also proposes MIRS-HC, a novel modulo scheduling technique that simultaneously performs instruction scheduling, cluster selection, inserts communication operations, performs register allocation and spill insertion for the proposed organization. The results show that although more cycles are required to execute applications, the execution time is reduced due to a shorter cycle time. In addition, the combination of clustering and hierarchy provides a larger design exploration space that trades-off performance and technology requirements.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
Genetic Algorithm (GA) in Feature Selection for CRF Based Manipuri Multiword Expression (MWE) Identification
This paper deals with the identification of Multiword Expressions (MWEs) in
Manipuri, a highly agglutinative Indian Language. Manipuri is listed in the
Eight Schedule of Indian Constitution. MWE plays an important role in the
applications of Natural Language Processing(NLP) like Machine Translation, Part
of Speech tagging, Information Retrieval, Question Answering etc. Feature
selection is an important factor in the recognition of Manipuri MWEs using
Conditional Random Field (CRF). The disadvantage of manual selection and
choosing of the appropriate features for running CRF motivates us to think of
Genetic Algorithm (GA). Using GA we are able to find the optimal features to
run the CRF. We have tried with fifty generations in feature selection along
with three fold cross validation as fitness function. This model demonstrated
the Recall (R) of 64.08%, Precision (P) of 86.84% and F-measure (F) of 73.74%,
showing an improvement over the CRF based Manipuri MWE identification without
GA application.Comment: 14 pages, 6 figures, see

CEAI: CCM based Email Authorship Identification Model
In this paper we present a model for email authorship identification (EAI) by
employing a Cluster-based Classification (CCM) technique. Traditionally,
stylometric features have been successfully employed in various authorship
analysis tasks; we extend the traditional feature-set to include some more
interesting and effective features for email authorship identification (e.g.
the last punctuation mark used in an email, the tendency of an author to use
capitalization at the start of an email, or the punctuation after a greeting or
farewell). We also included Info Gain feature selection based content features.
It is observed that the use of such features in the authorship identification
process has a positive impact on the accuracy of the authorship identification
task. We performed experiments to justify our arguments and compared the
results with other base line models. Experimental results reveal that the
proposed CCM-based email authorship identification model, along with the
proposed feature set, outperforms the state-of-the-art support vector machine
(SVM)-based models, as well as the models proposed by Iqbal et al. [1, 2]. The
proposed model attains an accuracy rate of 94% for 10 authors, 89% for 25
authors, and 81% for 50 authors, respectively on Enron dataset, while 89.5%
accuracy has been achieved on authors' constructed real email dataset. The
results on Enron dataset have been achieved on quite a large number of authors
as compared to the models proposed by Iqbal et al. [1, 2]
Template-driven teacher modelling approach : a thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Information Science at Massey University, Palmerston North
This thesis describes the Template-driven Teacher Modeling Approach, the initial implementation of the template server and the formative evaluation on the prototype. The initiative of Template-driven teacher modeling is to integrate the template server and intelligent teacher models in Web-based education systems for course authoring. There are a number of key components in the proposed system: user interface, template server and content repository. The Template-Driven Teacher Modeling (TDTM) architecture supports the course authoring by providing higher degree of control over the generation of presentation. The collection of accumulated templates in the template repository for a teacher or a group of teachers are selected as the inputs for the inference mechanism in teacher's model to calculate the best representation of the teaching strategy, and then predict teacher intention when he or she interacts with the system. Moreover, the presentation templates are kept to support the re-use of the on-line content at the level of individual screens with the help of Template Server
Practical Use of Cloud Systems in Project Management
The thesis is focused on a description of cloud system services and their application in project management of a non-profit organization. Theoretical introduction into cloud systems services is concerned in the first part of the thesis. Consequently features of several best known cloud system services will be described. Described systems will be further compared for usage in a particular project planning. Selection of the optimal cloud service solution will be determined in the conclusion.

Enterprise application reuse: Semantic discovery of business grid services
Web services have emerged as a prominent paradigm for the development of distributed software systems as they provide the potential for software to be modularized in a way that functionality can be described, discovered and deployed in a platform independent manner over a network (e.g., intranets, extranets and the Internet). This paper examines an extension of this paradigm to encompass ‘Grid Services’, which enables software capabilities to be recast with an operational focus and support a heterogeneous mix of business software and data, termed a Business Grid - "the grid of semantic services". The current industrial representation of services is predominantly syntactic however, lacking the fundamental semantic underpinnings required to fulfill the goals of any semantically-oriented Grid. Consequently, the use of semantic technology in support of business software heterogeneity is investigated as a likely tool to support a diverse and distributed software inventory and user. Service discovery architecture is therefore developed that is (a) distributed in form, (2) supports distributed service knowledge and (3) automatically extends service knowledge (as greater descriptive precision is inferred from the operating application system). This discovery engine is used to execute several real-word scenarios in order to develop and test a framework for engineering such grid service knowledge. The examples presented comprise software components taken from a group of Investment Banking systems. Resulting from the research is a framework for engineering servic

A Project Portfolio Management model adapted to non-profit organizations
As they strive towards greater professionalism in carrying out their activities, non-profit organizations (NPOs) have begun paying attention to project management. The non-profit sector (NPS) has also begun to adopt strategic planning techniques, thus making the acceptance of project portfolio management (PPM) methodology a natural consequence. This article aims to propose a project portfolio management model adapted to the context of NPOs
