Automating Enterprise Architecture Documentation using an Enterprise Service Bus

    Get PDF
Currently the documentation of Enterprise Architectures (EA) requires manual collection of data resulting in an error prone, expensive, and time consuming process. Recent approaches seek to automate and improve EA documentation by employing the productive system environment of organizations. In this paper, we investigate a specific Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) considered as the nervous system of an enterprise interconnecting business applications and processes as an information source. We evaluate the degree of coverage to which data of a productive system can be used for EA documentation. A vendor-specific ESB data model is reverse-engineered and transformation rules for three representative EA information models are derived. These transformation rules are employed to perform automated model transformations making the first step towards an automated EA documentation. We evaluate our approach using a productive ESB system from a leading enterprise of the fashion industry

    Building a Cloud Governance Bus

Thought still at its first steps, cloud governance lays the foundation upon which business innovations can be built. It fills in the gaps left by cloud providers and allows major players on the IT market to be challenged by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) for their share. At the core of cloud governance, its bus enables interaction and communication between various services and governance components. The cloud governance bus is a step forward for the enterprise service bus (ESB) into the cloud environment, addressing data integration and full implementation of enterprise integration patterns. This paper covers current requirements for ESB migration to the cloud environment and proposes a cloud governance architecture that meets the given requirements

Multimedia information systems have been developed into service-ware. With the paradigms of web services, service oriented architectures (SOA), and Web 2.0 widgets, multimedia has become truly ubiquitous. However, interoperability, scalability, reliability and security are arising challenges at mobile multimedia service development. This paper focuses on the analysis, design, development and evaluation of a middleware that allows access from mobile devices to a bundle of multimedia services. The services are based on the international multimedia metadata description standard MPEG-7. The implementation is based on new generation of service-oriented application servers called Lightweight Application Server (LAS). Mobile web services refer to the fact that mobile servers host web services. A prototype was developed as a proof of concept, showing how to access MPEG-7 based multimedia services from a Mobile Host and the analysis results of providing MPEG-7 based multimedia services in the form of web services from the Mobile Host to other mobile devices. An alternative solution is to apply enterprise service bus technology as the middleware. The performance evaluation results of both approaches show the reliable accessibility of MPEG-7 based multimedia services via the enterprise service bus solution

At the modern companies the large number of information systems (IS) of various levels and purposes is used, and also new IS are periodically being implemented. The problem of the IS integration (their functions and data) becomes vital at a certain stage of the development of any company. The concept of service-oriented architecture (SOA) is considered as one of the most perspective concepts during the solution of problems of the IS integration for the creation of new IS of corporate level and their integration with the systems existing at the companies. The central connective software component of the SOA concept is the enterprise service bus (ESB). In the article the analysis of the most popular existing ESB and integration platforms for development of new ESB is carried out. It is shown that the most part of the existing ESB is functionally excessive, has high price and demands the essential additional development with specifics of a company during the ESB creation on a platform basis. That is why the way of the creation of new specialized ESB is perspective. In the article it is shown that a framework which is sufficient for the development of specialized inexpensive ESB is the .NET framework. Functionality of the created specialized ESB and features of its program implementation are considered. Results of the efficiency researches of the specialized ESB and its comparative analysis with ESB of the most popular producers are given

Interoperability in healthcare is a requirement for effective communication between entities, to ensure timely access to up to-date patient information and medical knowledge, and thus facilitate consistent patient care. An interoperability framework called the Health Service Bus (HSB), based on the Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) middleware software architecture is presented here as a solution to all three levels of interoperability as defined by the HL7 EHR Interoperability Work group in their definitive white paper β€œComing to Terms”. A prototype HSB system was implemented based on the Mule Open-Source ESB and is outlined and discussed, followed by a clinically-based example
