    Towards using a physio-cognitive model in tutoring for psychomotor tasks.

    We report our exploratory research of psychomotor task training in intelligent tutoring systems (ITSs) that are generally limited to tutoring in the desktop learning environment where the learner acquires cognitively oriented knowledge and skills. It is necessary to support computer-guided training in a psychomotor task domain that is beyond the desktop environment. In this study, we seek to extend the current capability of GIFT (Generalized Intelligent Frame-work for Tutoring) to address these psychomotor task training needs. Our ap-proach is to utilize heterogeneous sensor data to identify physical motions through acceleration data from a smartphone and to monitor respiratory activity through a BioHarness, while interacting with GIFT simultaneously. We also uti-lize a computational model to better understand the learner and domain. We focus on a precision-required psychomotor task (i.e., golf putting) and create a series of courses in GIFT that instruct how to do putting with tactical breathing. We report our implementation of a physio-cognitive model that can account for the process of psychomotor skill development, the GIFT extension, and a pilot study that uses the extension. The physio-cognitive model is based on the ACT-R/Φ architecture to model and predict the process of learning, and how it can be used for improving the fundamental understanding of the domain and learner model. Our study contributes to the use of cognitive modeling with physiological con-straints to support adaptive training of psychomotor tasks in ITSs

    La definición de un modelo de usuario es el soporte de la personalización en los sistemas computacionales. Para un sistema personalizado en salud, el cual soporta la promoción de hábitos y estilos de vida saludables, en particular la actividad física y la dieta saludable; se propone un modelo de usuario de acuerdo con el estándar ISO/TR 14292 para los PHR (Personal Health Record). La descripción del modelo de usuario estandarizado incluye: una caracterización del modelo de usuario; el modelo de usuario propuesto de acuerdo con la norma ISO; las relaciones e inferencias del modelo de usuario; y una arquitectura de referencia para el sistema a desarrollar. Finalmente, se implementa un prototipo con un pequeño set de datos y se diseñan algunos posibles mockups, como soporte a la arquitectura propuesta.The definition of a user model supports personalization in computer-based systems. For a personalized system in health, which supports the promotion of healthy habits and lifestyles, in particular physical activity and healthy diet, a user model according to the ISO/TR 14292 standard for Personal Health Records [PHR] is proposed. The description of the standardized user model includes: a characterization of the user model; the proposed user model according to the ISO standard; the relationships and inferences of the user model; and reference architecture for the system to be developed. Finally, a prototype with a small dataset is implemented and some possible mockups supporting the proposed architecture are designed.A definição de um modelo de usuário é o suporte para a personalização nos sistemas informáticos.     Characteristics of Smartphone Applications for Nutrition Improvement in Community Settings: A Scoping Review

However, there is a scarcity of practical literature to support researchers and practitioners in choosing or developing health applications. This work maps the features, key content, theoretical approaches, and methods of consumer testing of applications intended for nutrition improvement in community settings. A systematic, scoping review methodology was used to map published, peer-reviewed literature reporting on applications with a specific nutrition-improvement focus intended for use in the community setting. After screening, articles were grouped into 4 categories: dietary self-monitoring trials, nutrition improvement trials, application description articles, and qualitative application development studies. For mapping, studies were also grouped into categories based on the target population and aim of the application or program. Of the 4818 titles identified from the database search, 64 articles were included. The broad categories of features found to be included in applications generally corresponded to different behavior change support strategies common to many classic behavioral change models. Key content of applications generally focused on food composition, with tailored feedback most commonly used to deliver educational content. Consumer testing before application deployment was reported in just over half of the studies. Collaboration between practitioners and application developers promotes an appropriate balance of evidence-based content and functionality. This work provides a unique resource for program development teams and practitioners seeking to use an application for nutrition improvement in community settings
