Testing mixed-signal cores: a practical oscillation-based test in an analog macrocell
A formal set of design decisions can aid in using oscillation-based test (OBT) for analog subsystems in SoCs. The goal is to offer designers testing options that do not have significant area overhead, performance degradation, or test time. This work shows that OBT is a potential candidate for IP providers to use in combination with functional test techniques. We have shown how to modify the basic concept of OBT to come up with a practical method. Using our approach, designers can use OBT to pave the way for future developments in SoC testing, and it is simple to extend this idea to BIST.European Union 2635

The service provider company some time incurs heavy losses due to non collection of bills. These service items cannot be recovered from the user after providing, so the concept of prepaid reduce risk and increase profitability. Also the bill collection infrastructure is not necessary which intern increase improve the efficiency of the service providing companies. The concept of prepaid starts in the manual form by receiving advance deposits but now due to the revolution of IT and electronics industry the manual recharging process is replaced with automatic and electronic recharging. The recharging methods can be with wire based like telephone line and also by using wireless technology like radio and bluetooth communication. The prepaid system is designed with a smart technology using microcontroller and the recharging process is by some method of communication. The Mobile based recharging is very attractive recharging system. The recharging can be done from any remote place without accessing the energy meter physically. Compact information technology enabled systems for intelligent process monitoring
The use of computers in industrial process applications is ever-increasing. Initially used to provide help to the machine operator, their application has evolved through automatic process control to monitoring of process health and performance. The latter, together with the quality control of the end product directly affect plant economics and ultimately the financial viability of the company. The research reported in this thesis is a contribution towards providing a cost-effective method of calculating a measure of the current health of a process and predicting any maintenance issues that may arise in the near future. Embedded systems are utilised and the monitoring system is designed to work automatically with a minimal input from the operator. This eliminates the need for peripherals such as keyboards, mice, and monitors thus reducing the overall system price and footprint. User interfaces are provided via the Internet and mobile phones giving remote access to multiple users. Single chip microcontrollers are at the heart of the embedded system rather than microprocessors, thereby reducing the relative system cost and size at the expense of localised processing power. The microcontrollers are distributed in a hierarchical network to attain the required processing power whilst minimising data storage and communications and to improve signal-to-noise ratios. The Controller Area Network (CAN) bus was selected, and used for the inter-microcontroller communications, for its robust performance in noisy environments. In the developed system architecture, each microcontroller node acquires one of the required process sensor signals and applies initial signal processing. A novel sweeping filter technique is developed to perform frequency analysis using the microcontrollers. The processed data from all nodes are then combined using situation-based criteria to reach conclusions often not evident from single sensor data. The Internet-based system is provided with the capability to upload any monitoring software or updates. Plug & play capability of the monitoring nodes is also provided so that the system can be seamlessly adapted to new or changed applications. The design and development of the system are detailed along with its deployment on various applications. Fault detection, isolation, and prediction were achieved on batch and continuous processes. A machine tool application proved the frequency analysis and network traffic reduction capabilities. On-line monitoring of an industrial valve was also performed
Sizing, dynamic modelling and control of a solar water pumping system for irrigation
This thesis describes the sizing, dynamic modelling, and control of an automatic solar
irrigation pumping system with energy storage for extraction of groundwater for irrigation
utilizing an alternative source of energy. The system design is based on site data of an
existing project in Bangladesh. Sizing estimation, sensitivity analysis, and optimization are
done in HOMER. MATLAB simulation is performed for all alternative types of energy
storage systems to study the dynamic behaviors of system components. A water level
sensor observes the tank water level and a programmed sensor module measures the
temperature, humidity, soil moisture level and send the information to ESP32
microcontroller. Based on the information and boundary conditions, the microcontroller
decides either to start or to stop the pump motor and sends results to the web server so that
the user can see that. The user can operate the irrigation system far from the field by a
simple click on a cellphone. This research also provides a comparative study among all
alternative systems as well as the conventional diesel engine system from the economic
point of view to give an optimal solution of an automated solar irrigation pumping system
with energy storage
Spin-scanning Cameras for Planetary Exploration: Imager Analysis and Simulation
In this thesis, a novel approach to spaceborne imaging is investigated, building upon the scan imaging technique in which camera motion is used to construct an image. This thesis investigates its use with wide-angle (≥90° field of view) optics mounted on spin stabilised probes for large-coverage imaging of planetary environments, and focusses on two instruments. Firstly, a descent camera concept for a planetary penetrator. The imaging geometry of the instrument is analysed. Image resolution is highest at the penetrator’s nadir and lowest at the horizon, whilst any point on the surface is imaged with highest possible resolution when the camera’s altitude is equal to that point’s radius from nadir. Image simulation is used to demonstrate the camera’s images and investigate analysis techniques. A study of stereophotogrammetric measurement of surface topography using pairs of descent images is conducted. Measurement accuracies and optimum stereo geometries are presented. Secondly, the thesis investigates the EnVisS (Entire Visible Sky) instrument, under development for the Comet Interceptor mission. The camera’s imaging geometry, coverage and exposure times are calculated, and used to model the expected signal and noise in EnVisS observations. It is found that the camera’s images will suffer from low signal, and four methods for mitigating this – binning, coaddition, time-delay integration and repeat sampling – are investigated and described. Use of these methods will be essential if images of sufficient signal are to be acquired, particularly for conducting polarimetry, the performance of which is modelled using Monte Carlo simulation. Methods of simulating planetary cameras’ images are developed to facilitate the study of both cameras. These methods enable the accurate simulation of planetary surfaces and cometary atmospheres, are based on Python libraries commonly used in planetary science, and are intended to be readily modified and expanded for facilitating the study of a variety of planetary cameras

An investigation into a DSP implementation of partial response signaling for 4800 bits per second full-duplex data communications over M.1020 telephone lines
Includes bibliographical references.This thesis investigates high-speed digital transmission over a conditioned, voice-grade telephone circuit (M.1020), using a technique known as partial response signaling, or PRS. In particular, the case where 4800 bps, full-duplex transmission is required in a CCI'PT V. 22 type format is investigated. The main v.22 criterion to be adhered to, is that frequency-division multiplexing (FDM) is to be used as the means of separating thetransmit and receive channels.
