    Innovative Evaluation System – IESM: An Architecture for the Database Management System for Mobile Application

    As the mobile applications are constantly facing a rapid development in the recent years especially in the academic environment such as student response system [1-8] used in universities and other educational institutions; there has not been reported an effective and scalable Database Management System to support fast and reliable data storage and retrieval. This paper presents Database Management Architecture for an Innovative Evaluation System based on Mobile Learning Applications. The need for a relatively stable, independent and extensible data model for faster data storage and retrieval is analyzed and investigated. It concludes by emphasizing further investigation for high throughput so as to support multimedia data such as video clips, images and documents

    Storage Solutions for Big Data Systems: A Qualitative Study and Comparison

    Big data systems development is full of challenges in view of the variety of application areas and domains that this technology promises to serve. Typically, fundamental design decisions involved in big data systems design include choosing appropriate storage and computing infrastructures. In this age of heterogeneous systems that integrate different technologies for optimized solution to a specific real world problem, big data system are not an exception to any such rule. As far as the storage aspect of any big data system is concerned, the primary facet in this regard is a storage infrastructure and NoSQL seems to be the right technology that fulfills its requirements. However, every big data application has variable data characteristics and thus, the corresponding data fits into a different data model. This paper presents feature and use case analysis and comparison of the four main data models namely document oriented, key value, graph and wide column. Moreover, a feature analysis of 80 NoSQL solutions has been provided, elaborating on the criteria and points that a developer must consider while making a possible choice. Typically, big data storage needs to communicate with the execution engine and other processing and visualization technologies to create a comprehensive solution. This brings forth second facet of big data storage, big data file formats, into picture. The second half of the research paper compares the advantages, shortcomings and possible use cases of available big data file formats for Hadoop, which is the foundation for most big data computing technologies. Decentralized storage and blockchain are seen as the next generation of big data storage and its challenges and future prospects have also been discussed

    A Nine Month Progress Report on an Investigation into Mechanisms for Improving Triple Store Performance

    This report considers the requirement for fast, efficient, and scalable triple stores as part of the effort to produce the Semantic Web. It summarises relevant information in the major background field of Database Management Systems (DBMS), and provides an overview of the techniques currently in use amongst the triple store community. The report concludes that for individuals and organisations to be willing to provide large amounts of information as openly-accessible nodes on the Semantic Web, storage and querying of the data must be cheaper and faster than it is currently. Experiences from the DBMS field can be used to maximise triple store performance, and suggestions are provided for lines of investigation in areas of storage, indexing, and query optimisation. Finally, work packages are provided describing expected timetables for further study of these topics

    ACADA: Access Control-driven Architecture with Dynamic Adaptation

    Programmers of relational database applications use software solutions (Hibernate, JDBC, LINQ, ADO.NET) to ease the development process of business tiers. These software solutions were not devised to address access control policies, much less for evolving access control policies, in spite of their unavoidable relevance. Currently, access control policies, whenever implemented, are enforced by independent components leading to a separation between policies and their enforcement. This paper proposes a new approach based on an architectural model referred to here as the Access Controldriven Architecture with Dynamic Adaptation (ACADA). Solutions based on ACADA are automatically built to statically enforce access control policies based on schemas of Create, Read, Update and Delete (CRUD) expressions. Then, CRUD expressions are dynamically deployed at runtime driven by established access control policies. Any update in the policies is followed by an adaptation process to keep access control mechanisms aligned with the policies to be enforced. A proof of concept based on Java and Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) is also presented

    International audienceGrid operators in EGEE use a dedicated dashboard as their central operational tool, stable and scalable for the last 5 years despite continuous upgrade from specifications by users, monitoring tools or data providers. In EGEE-III, regionalisation of operations led the tool developers to conceive a standalone instance of this tool. Hereby, we will present the concept and the EELA-II implementation. Indeed, there-engineering of this tool led to an easily deployable package that canconnect to EELA-II specific information sources such as EVENTUM, EELAGOCDB like or SAM EELA instance through the three components of thepackage: the generic and scalable data access mechanism, Lavoisier; thewidely spread php framework Symfony, for configuration flexibility and a Mysql database
