Fordismus: Glanz und Elend eines Produktionsmodells

In the last decades, the concept of fordism has grown in popularity especially among left social scientists. Its aim is to explain certain historical forms of capitalism, notably the period of growing affluence of the working class which started in the 1930s in the US and in the 1950s in Western Europe, which is seen as a new connection of mass production and mass consumption, framed by an interventionist type of political regulation. As the term suggests, the origin of the model is attributed to Henry Ford and his innovation of the assembly line in the Ford Motor Company before 1914. Against this common view, it is argued that the success of Fords production model was limited, and that the later rising prosperity of workers in different countries is not to be explained by the dissemination of assembly lines, but by different types of rationalization and the ability of a then strong working class to enforce its demands of sharing the productivity gains by shorter working time and higher wages

Discuti a ideia difundida atualmente pelas editoras de que o eBook precisa ser, em termos gráfico-visuais, exatamente igual ao livro impresso. Para tanto, o trabalho traz uma apresentação sobre a história do livro, do impresso ao digital, com enfoque em suas características gráficas, além de um estudo sobre as principais práticas adotadas pelo mercado editorial brasileiro para a produção de livros eletrônicos e, por fim, uma análise gráfica de alguns eBooks no formato ePub – padrão atualmente adotado pelas principais casas editoriais brasileiras – visualizados nos e-readers Nook e Sony Reader. Serão discutidas questões relativas à tipografia, espaçamento, formato, mancha gráfica, malha gráfica, capas, cores e outros. Por este ser um assunto bastante incipiente, as práticas de mercado ainda não estão totalmente enraizadas, permitindo uma discussão mais ampla acerca da qualidade gráfica dos atuais livros digitais, bem como questionamentos sobre as atuais práticas adotadas

„Zauberschlüssel zu einem Zukunftsparadies der Menschheit“: Automatisierungsdiskurse der 1950er- und 1960er-Jahre im deutsch-deutschen Vergleich

Ein wichtiges gesellschaftliches Integrationsmittel in der Hochmoderne (ca. 1880–1970) bildete das Versprechen einer besseren Zukunft durch technischen Fortschritt. Im Zuge technischer „Errungenschaften“ wuchs das Vertrauen in die Potenziale einer verwissenschaftlichten Technik, soziale und kulturelle Probleme lösen zu können. Besonders neue Technologien wurden zu Sinnbildern des Fortschritts. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg spielte die Automatisierung als Produktions- und Informationstechnik eine zentrale Rolle für das technisierte Fortschrittsversprechen: Sie wurde in beiden deutschen Staaten als revolutionär eingeschätzt und avancierte während des Kalten Krieges zu einem zentralen Thema des Systemwettstreites auf technisch-wissenschaftlichem Gebiet. Während jedoch in der Bundesrepublik um die Interpretation einer vermeintlichen „zweiten industriellen Revolution“ gerungen wurde, war man in der DDR überzeugt, dass die „wissenschaftlich-technische Revolution“ als „Werkzeug der Geschichte“ die kapitalistische Produktion überwinden werde. Die Arbeit fragt dementsprechend nach den historischen Ursachen der Vorstellung unbegrenzter Steigerungsfähigkeit der für das Gemeinwohl einsetzbaren technischen Mittel, welche mit der Automatisierung einen neuerlichen Höhepunkt und eine nahezu singuläre Symbolisierung fand
