The management of plantar warts - a podiatric perspective
The number of treatments offered for a particular condition is often indicative of the unsatisfactory success rate in curing the problem. This can be demonstrated by the documented plethora of treatments suggested for plantar warts (or verrucae), which range from the traditional to the bizarre â including banana skins, hypnosis and nail varnish. This paper aims to review the problem of plantar warts and take an evidence-based approach, balancing research findings coupled with the authorsâ combined 40 years of experience in managing this common problem
The case of Heinrich Wilhelm Poll (1877-1939): A German-Jewish geneticist, eugenicist, twin researcher, and victim of the Nazis
This paper uses a reconstruction of the life and career of Heinrich Poll as a window into developments and professional relationships in the biological sciences in Germany in the period from the beginning of the twentieth century to the Nazi seizure of power in 1933. Poll's intellectual work involved an early transition from morphometric physical anthropology to comparative evolutionary studies, and also found expression in twin research - a field in which he was an acknowledged early pioneer. His advocacy of eugenics led to participation in state-sponsored committees convened to advise on social policy, one of which debated sterilisation and made recommendations that led eventually to the establishment of the notorious Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Anthropology, Human Heredity and Eugenics. However, his status as a prominent geneticist and, in particular, as a eugenicist had an ironic and ultimately tragic dimension. Heinrich Poll was of Jewish birth, and this resulted in his career being destroyed by an application of the population policies he had helped put in place
A dermatoglyphics of foot in the prognosis of sporting gift: differential distinctions of dermatoglyphics of foot for sportsmen and people which do not go in for sports
The features of forming of dermatoglyphics of feet are compared for sportsmen and people, which do not go in for sports. In researches took part 209 men and 198 women in age 17-19 years, which did not go in for systematic sports. The quantitative and high-quality indexes of dermatoglyphics of fingers and soles of foot were determined on a method T.D. Gladkova. It is certain that as genetic markers of propensity to the sporting gift there can be more difficult dermatoglyphics patterns (W) on the first finger and soles of feet and more considerable indexes of comb-shaped count on the first tiptoes. A dermatoglyphics of fingers and hands of hands is more informing in a prognosis high motive gift, than dermatoglyphics of feet. It can be predefined that is analysed greater amount of indexes of dermatoglyphics of hands as compared to feet. Probability of genetic prognosis is more high for girls, what for boys
Finger and palmar dermatoglyphics in Muzeina Bedouins from South Sinai: qualitative traits
Qualitative finger and palmar dermatoglyphics traits of 218 individuals (170 males and 48 females), belonging to the Muzeina Bedouins â the nomadic tribe, a small isolate with a high degree of consanguinity from the South Sinai Peninsula were studied. The highest frequencies of pattern whorl (W) on the 4th finger followed by an ulnar loop (UL) on the 3rd finger for both hands in both sexes were observed. Similarly, the highest occurrence of pattern combinations W-W (67.7%) was followed by the UL-UL (65.2%) in both sexes. Finger and palmar patterns show homogeneity in nature except the 3rd finger and the 4th palmar area, which have a significant sex difference. The present results are not exactly similar with our previous studies on other populations â Chuvashian (Karmakar et al 2007), Indians (Karmakar et al 2002), Turkmenians (Karmakar et al 2010), perhaps due to a major ethnic difference and a high inbreeding level
Digital Dermatoglyphics Distribution in Fertile and Infertile Women
The study aimed at examining differences in digital dermatoglyphics distribution between fertile and infertile women in Abuja, Nigeria. A total of 222 women with 53 clinical cases of primary infertility were included in this study. Dermatoglyphic patterns of the distal phalanges were obtained for further analyses of quantitative and qualitative traits. The results showed a lower incidence of loop patterns (55%), and a higher incidence of arches (7%) and whorls (29%) in infertile women than in fertile ones. Infertile women showed a unique and specific digital pattern distribution on each of the fingers on the right and left hand. A significant decrease in ridge count (RC), total finger ridge count (TFRC) and absolute finger ridge count (AFRC) was observed in the infertile patients (p<0.05) in relation to fertile women. 2D:4D index in infertile and fertile women was 0.95 and 0.85 respectively. The observed differences in the digital traits could provide a useful bio-indicator for genetic counselling among reproductive age women

clases de capacidad fĂsica fueron comparadas entre subgrupos de futbolistas.
Una mayor proporciĂłn de futbolistas se caracterizĂł por somatotipo mesomorfo
