Legal Protection for Film Copyright Holders Against Illegal Downloading and Streaming Activities on the Internet

Copyright holders have exclusive rights to their creations or work. Illegal downloading and streaming of movies can be detrimental to copyright holders and countries. Therefore, perpetrators can be subject to criminal and civil sanctions. This study aims to: (1) determine the protection for the Moral Rights and Economic Rights of film creators or Copyright Holders from illegal downloading and streaming of films on the Internet and (2) determine how the law should regulate the rights of creators from illegal downloading and streaming activities to provide legal protection. The type of research used in this study is normative juridical by using data collection techniques through literature studies. The results show that: (1) the protection of Economic Rights and Moral Rights of film copyright is still lacking in providing legal protection because sanctions for violators of Moral Rights have not been regulated in the Copyright Law (2) the Copyright Law has regulated legal steps that Copyright Holders can take to obtain legal protection in the field of Copyright through mediation, criminal complaints, claims for compensation, and reports on the closure of content and access right

Polarization switchable two-color plasmonic nano-pixels for creating optical surfaces encoded with dual information states

    Get PDF
We demonstrate tunable, polarization-dependent, dual-color plasmonic filters based upon arrays of asymmetric cross-shaped nano-apertures. Acting as individual color emitting nano-pixels, each aperture can selectively transmit one of 2 colors, switched by controlling the polarization of white-light incident on the rear of each pixel. By tuning the dimensions of the pixels we build a polarization sensitive color palette at resolutions far beyond the diffraction limit. Using this switchable color palette we are able to generate complex optical surfaces encoded with dual color and information states; allowing us to embed two color images within the same unit area, using the same set of nanoapertures. © (2016) COPYRIGHT Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE). Investigation of interaction of carbon dioxide with aerogels nanopores

The absorption spectrum of 2 0 0 12 – 0 0 0 01 band of carbon dioxide, confined in 20 nm nanopores of silica aerogel, was measured with help of a Bruker IFS 125 HR Fourier transform spectrometer at room temperature and a spectral resolution of 0.01 cm-1. The obtained dependence of spectral line half-width values on rotational quantum numbers was studied and compared with data available in the literature. © (2015) COPYRIGHT Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE). Religiosity and music copyright theft among Canadian Baptist youth

    Get PDF
This study examines the views of 706 Canadian Baptist youth (between the ages of 14 and 18 years) on the moral issue of music copyright theft, and explores the influence on these views of age, sex, Sunday church attendance, personal prayer, personal Bible reading, and conservative Bible believing. The participants were attending Springforth 2005 (a major Canadian Baptist Youth Conference). The data demonstrate a high level of acceptance of music copyright theft, with only 26% of the participants agreeing that downloading copyright music from the Internet without paying is always wrong. Employing multiple regression modelling, the data demonstrated that, as Canadian Baptist youth mature (grew older), as they became more familiar with Bible teaching (through frequent reading of the scriptures), and as they became more integrated within the community of faith (through frequent Sunday church attendance), so they take a tougher line against music copyright theft

Download, Stream, or Somewhere in Between: The Potential for Legal Music Use in Podcasting

    Get PDF
Podcasting is an increasingly popular new digital technology with the potential to be a great conduit of expression. Currently, the use of music is limited in podcasting due in large part to uncertainty as to what rights must be licensed before copyrighted music can be used legitimately. This iBrief examines what legal rights are implicated by podcasting by analyzing U.S. copyright law and comparing related technologies. This iBrief concludes that onerous licensing requirements are unnecessary, and for podcasting to realize its potential, a simple licensing framework must be established

The Bigger Picture: A Commentary on the Forcehimes–Karjiker Debate

    Get PDF
Forcehimes poses a parity between libraries and downloading books online and concludes that the im/permissibility of one of them entails the im/permissibility of the other and vice versa. Karjiker rejects this parity arguing that the magnitudes of these two are vastly different and while libraries do not lead to a considerable market failure, downloading e-books does. In this article, I try to clarify some points, show a kind of parochialism in Karjiker’s arguments, propose a thought experiment to neutralize the magnitude problem, and justify Forcehimes’ main idea

    Television: Peer-To-Peer’s Next Challenger

    Get PDF
The entertainment industry has obsessed over the threat of peer-to-peer file sharing since the introduction of Napster in 1999. The sharing of television content may present a compelling case for fair use under the long-standing Betamax decision. Some argue that television sharing is fundamentally different than the distribution of music or movies since television is often distributed for free over public airwaves. However, a determination of fair use is unlikely because of the fundamental differences between recording a program and downloading it, recent regulation to suppress unauthorized content distribution and shifts in the television market brought on by new technology
