    Pedagogical documentation in childhood education: a review of concepts

    Documenting is a complex, dynamic process that is still difficult for early childhood educators today. It is more than describing and narrating the events, encompasses the selection, interpretation, reflection, and evaluation of them. It requires a close look from educators on all children and at all learning times, including moments of free exploration, and a reasoned reflection of practice in general. Consider the ideas of Malaguzzi, mentor of the Approach Reggio Emilia, systematically documenting the child learning processes offer memories to educators, children, and their families. It also acts as a starting point for new learning and allows educators to improve their practices through reflection. This study focuses on the in-depth reading of scientific articles by different authors, intending to understand the evolution of the pedagogical documentation concept, as well as knowing different current approaches to evaluation in education. It assumes a qualitative methodology, which aims to access the authors' conceptions through heuristic and hermeneutic processes. In this sense, the investigative process followed the following steps: (i) research and systematization of the relevant literature; (ii) organization of relevant texts on pedagogical documentation, in a diachronic way, to analyze the evolution of the concept in childhood education; (iii) collection of ideas for education, expressed by the authors, framing them historically; (iv) establishing relationships between the different designs. Pedagogical documentation is analyzed as a form of evaluation, with a relationship with the construction of participatory pedagogies. The data that emerged from the analysis revealed the importance of knowing the evolution of the concept of evaluation, to document the processes and integrate the right of participation into the institutions' daily practices. The importance of formative strategies that allow educators to understand their role in the construction of evaluation is reinforced. Strategies are also evidenced, including for children, to make visible the processes of documenting.     An update to Volker Grimm and colleagues\' Overview, Design concepts and Details (ODD) protocol for documenting individual and agent based models (I/ABM) has recently been published in Ecological Modelling. This renames the \'State variables and scales\' element to \'Entities, state variables and scales\', and the \'Input\' element to \'Input data\', introduces two new Design concepts (\'Basic principles\' and \'Learning\'), and renames another (\'Fitness\' is now generalised to \'Objectives\'). The Design concepts element can now also be shortened such that it is not required to include any design concept that is irrelevant to the model, and expanded to include new design concepts more appropriate to the model being described.     Unified modelling language (UML) 2.0 introduced in 2002 has been developing and influencing object-oriented software engineering and has become a standard and reference for information system analysis and design modelling. There are many concepts and theories to model the information system or software application with UML 2.0, which can make ambiguities and inconsistencies for a novice to learn to how to model the system with UML especially with UML 2.0. This article will discuss how to model the simple software application by using some of the diagrams of UML 2.0 and not by using the whole diagrams as suggested by agile methodology. Agile methodology is considered as convenient for novices because it can deliver the information technology environment to the end-user quickly and adaptively with minimal documentation. It also has the ability to deliver best performance software application according to the customer's needs.     Text Similarity Between Concepts Extracted from Source Code and Documentation

    Context: Constant evolution in software systems often results in its documentation losing sync with the content of the source code. The traceability research field has often helped in the past with the aim to recover links between code and documentation, when the two fell out of sync. Objective: The aim of this paper is to compare the concepts contained within the source code of a system with those extracted from its documentation, in order to detect how similar these two sets are. If vastly different, the difference between the two sets might indicate a considerable ageing of the documentation, and a need to update it. Methods: In this paper we reduce the source code of 50 software systems to a set of key terms, each containing the concepts of one of the systems sampled. At the same time, we reduce the documentation of each system to another set of key terms. We then use four different approaches for set comparison to detect how the sets are similar. Results: Using the well known Jaccard index as the benchmark for the comparisons, we have discovered that the cosine distance has excellent comparative powers, and depending on the pre-training of the machine learning model. In particular, the SpaCy and the FastText embeddings offer up to 80% and 90% similarity scores. Conclusion: For most of the sampled systems, the source code and the documentation tend to contain very similar concepts. Given the accuracy for one pre-trained model (e.g., FastText), it becomes also evident that a few systems show a measurable drift between the concepts contained in the documentation and in the source code.</p

    Extended performance solar electric propulsion thrust system study. Volume 4: Thruster technology evaluation

    Several thrust system design concepts were evaluated and compared using the specifications of the most advanced 30 cm engineering model thruster as the technology base. Emphasis was placed on relatively high power missions (60 to 100 kW) such as a Halley's comet rendezvous. The extensions in thruster performance required for the Halley's comet mission were defined and alternative thrust system concepts were designed in sufficient detail for comparing mass, efficiency, reliability, structure, and thermal characteristics. Confirmation testing and analysis of thruster and power processing components were performed, and the feasibility of satisfying extended performance requirements was verified. A baseline design was selected from the alternatives considered, and the design analysis and documentation were refined. The baseline thrust system design features modular construction, conventional power processing, and a concentrator solar array concept and is designed to interface with the Space Shuttle
