    On color-to-gray transformation for distributing color digital images

    A new block embedding algorithm with a secret key is introduced for the Color-to-Gray and Back transformation. Color is embedded into the bit planes of the luminosity component of the YUV color space. We present an interface incorporated into Adobe Photoshop and consider a solution of the high quality digital image distribution problem. The solution is based on idea that the grayscale image with hidden color is a β version of a color original. Then a user could get a gray image before buying its color original he is interested. The proposed protocol has a secret key and can protect original images from unauthorized copying

    Due to camera resolution or any lighting condition, captured image are generally over-exposed or under-exposed conditions. So, there is need of some enhancement techniques that improvise these artifacts from recorded pictures or images. So, the objective of image enhancement and adjustment techniques is to improve the quality and characteristics of an image. In general terms, the enhancement of image distorts the original numerical values of an image. Therefore, it is required to design such enhancement technique that do not compromise with the quality of the image. The optimization of the image extracts the characteristics of the image instead of restoring the degraded image. The improvement of the image involves the degraded image processing and the improvement of its visual aspect. A lot of research has been done to improve the image. Many research works have been done in this field. One among them is deep learning. Most of the existing contrast enhancement methods, adjust the tone curve to correct the contrast of an input image but doesn’t work efficiently due to limited amount of information contained in a single image. In this research, the CNN with edge adjustment is proposed. By applying CNN with Edge adjustment technique, the input low contrast images are capable to adapt according to high quality enhancement. The result analysis shows that the developed technique significantly advantages over existing methods

    A novel automated approach of multi-modality retinal image registration and fusion

    Biomedical image registration and fusion are usually scene dependent, and require intensive computational effort. A novel automated approach of feature-based control point detection and area-based registration and fusion of retinal images has been successfully designed and developed. The new algorithm, which is reliable and time-efficient, has an automatic adaptation from frame to frame with few tunable threshold parameters. The reference and the to-be-registered images are from two different modalities, i.e. angiogram grayscale images and fundus color images. The relative study of retinal images enhances the information on the fundus image by superimposing information contained in the angiogram image. Through the thesis research, two new contributions have been made to the biomedical image registration and fusion area. The first contribution is the automatic control point detection at the global direction change pixels using adaptive exploratory algorithm. Shape similarity criteria are employed to match the control points. The second contribution is the heuristic optimization algorithm that maximizes Mutual-Pixel-Count (MPC) objective function. The initially selected control points are adjusted during the optimization at the sub-pixel level. A global maxima equivalent result is achieved by calculating MPC local maxima with an efficient computation cost. The iteration stops either when MPC reaches the maximum value, or when the maximum allowable loop count is reached. To our knowledge, it is the first time that the MPC concept has been introduced into biomedical image fusion area as the measurement criteria for fusion accuracy. The fusion image is generated based on the current control point coordinates when the iteration stops. The comparative study of the presented automatic registration and fusion scheme against Centerline Control Point Detection Algorithm, Genetic Algorithm, RMSE objective function, and other existing data fusion approaches has shown the advantage of the new approach in terms of accuracy, efficiency, and novelty

    Soil temperature investigations using satellite acquired thermal-infrared data in semi-arid regions

    Thermal-infrared data from the Heat Capacity Mapping Mission satellite were used to map the spatial distribution of diurnal surface temperatures and to estimate mean annual soil temperatures (MAST) and annual surface temperature amplitudes (AMP) in semi-arid east central Utah. Diurnal data with minimal snow and cloud cover were selected for five dates throughout a yearly period and geometrically co-registered. Rubber-sheet stretching was aided by the WARP program which allowed preview of image transformations. Daytime maximum and nighttime minimum temperatures were averaged to generation average daily temperature (ADT) data set for each of the five dates. Five ADT values for each pixel were used to fit a sine curve describing the theoretical annual surface temperature response as defined by a solution of a one-dimensinal heat flow equation. Linearization of the equation produced estimates of MAST and AMP plus associated confidence statistics. MAST values were grouped into classes and displayed on a color video screen. Diurnal surface temperatures and MAST were primarily correlated with elevation

    Graphic arts requirements for electronic image management systems for the library and corporate information center

    The value of legacy documents, important documents that exist only in printed form, is increased when those documents are transformed by an Electronic Image Management (EIM) System into digital form. The image quality observed from many of these systems is much poorer than that which is typical in the Graphic Arts field. This research has sought to understand whether the poor quality was due to the past constraints of slow computing power, high storage costs, and narrow network bandwidths. Users of EIM systems in Libraries and Corporate Information Centers were interviewed to assess their fundamental quality requirements relative to competing requirements for cost, turnaround time and speed. The process tool, Quality Function Deployment (QFD), was used to gather and process user requirements. QFD was chosen because of it\u27s methodical structure for the interview process and subsequent analysis. The resulting requirements were organized into a QFD House of Quality , arraying customer requirements against technical responses. Subsequent analysis of the House of Quality and transcripts of the customer interviews suggests that requirements for high speed and low cost, predominate over Graphic Arts quality for most users. The focus on speed and cost was most obvious for those applying EIM to commercial purposes in Corporate Information Centers. While Library users had a shared interest in speed and cost, they have a specialty application of EIM, preservation and conservation. In this application, EIM is used to preserve and save printed documents that are deteriorating. For this specialty application, quality is paramount. While cost and speed are still important, they cannot be sacrificed for quality or speed
