Virtual learning environment (VLE) provides students a common platform where they can get the subject-wise tutorial, course content, assignments, worksheets, notes, lectures, etc., anywhere, anytime. The slated features, unique characteristics, and availability of basic required features, consorting VLEs as the need of the today in academic sector. Besidesmaking, learning and teaching virtually real, VLEs are also equipped with tremendous, unique and never ending exhaustive features. Present paper is an endeavor to evaluate, compare, and assess the most widely used five open source VLE software tools. The VLE software studied are Chamilo, ILIAS, Forma.LMS, OpenSIS, and Opigno. It compares the features, pre-requisites, basic requirements for any organizational needs, uniqueness, and unison, etc. for each of the VLE. Based on the evaluation, observation, and comparison, the ranking in terms of excellent, very good, good, average was given to each of the five VLEs. The paper also sums up main comparisons among all the five VLEs especially in terms of the variety of the features available in them

Learning Management Systems (i.e. LMS) is one of the most popular solutions towards the e-Learning objective in different universities all around the world, where this environments are used to not only deliver contents but to perform assessments, tests and other tasks related to learning. Although, there are popular LMS such as Moodle, and more developed, such as Chamilo, there is no assessment/test portability among their LMS. Each assessment export formats make difficult to transfer well done Moodle-based online courses into young platforms such as Chamilo. The purpose of this paper is to address this portability issue and to show possibility of exporting Moodle assessment data (i.e. Moodle XML), into a more standardized format, which is IMS Question & Test Interoperability (IMS QTI). That can be used not only in Chamilo, but also other LMSs globally. The present paper shows the first approach towards a more global portability tool in which not only assessments but the whole structure of the course could be easily exported to other platforms. Contribution of this work is providing data exchange between LMSs

The E-LEDA: E-Learning Data Analyser project describes the complete detailed development of the E-LEDA system, which includes an iOS app, a Web app and Cloud Services for providing a lecturer a monitoring tool to analyse the student performance when the courses are complemented with an e-learning platform evaluation. This document describes the complete analysis of the E-LEDA project and the design, implementation and test of the first basic iOS app. The main objective of the E-LEDA project is to provide the higher quality of the final product by the usage of a combination of tools such as PSP, the Pomodoro Technique, UML and other techniques. The project follows the incremental-iterative use case driven lifecycle described by the Larman’s method. The complete development of the E-LEDA project is estimated to be 12 months and one week, counting with two junior software engineers and one senior engineer at part time for the project, The cost of the system is 52.867,90€ - fifty two thousand eight hundred and sixty seven euros and nighty cents, VAT included. As an E-LEDA project aside product a working method have been developed for this project as a combination of PSP, the pomodoro techniques, and Larman method, resulting in an improvement of the planning estimation accuracy for this project by an 18,1%.

This paper discusses the development of six domain specific cluster software in the college libraries under the University of Burdwan. Library is the heart of educational institutions. So, as to select the open source relevant with comprehensive software and global parameters on the basis of global recommendations like IFLA-Working Group, Integrated Library System for Discovery Interface (ILS-DI), Request for Proposals (RFP), Request for Comments (RFC), Service Oriented Architectre (SOA) and Open Library Environment Projects (OLE) including the areas like integrated library system cluster, digital media archiving cluster, content management system cluster, learning content management system cluster, federated search system cluster and college communication interaction cluster for designing and developing the college libraries under the University of Burdwan. Also develop the single window based interface in six domain specific cluster for the college librarians and the users to access their necessary resources through open source software and open standards. These six domain specific cluster softwares are to be selected for easily managed the digital and library resources in the college libraries affiliated to the University of Burdwan. This integrated framework can easily managed the housekeeping operations and information retrieval systems like acquisition, cataloguing, circulation, member generation, authority control, report generation and online public access catalogue for the users as well as library professionals also
