A Contention-Based Routing Protocol for VANET
In VANETs, vehicles as nodes are self-organized and inter-communicated without centralized authority. The topology formed by vehicles changes quickly, which makes routing become instability. Position-based routing, compared with traditional routing, is more scalable and feasible. Thus it has been proven stabler for VANETs than conventional routing. However, the frequently changed topology and nodes density could break the path a packet is following. Thus designing a robust multi-hop routing in VANET is challenging. This paper proposes an enhanced position-based routing protocol called CBGR, which takes into account the velocity and direction of vehicles in VANET. Simulation results show that CBGR achieves a high level of routing performance in terms of hop counts, network latency and packet delivery ratio both in dense or sparse vehicular ad-hoc networks
Energy Efficient Location Aided Routing Protocol for Wireless MANETs
A Mobile Ad-Hoc Network (MANET) is a collection of wireless mobile nodes
forming a temporary network without using any centralized access point,
infrastructure, or centralized administration. In this paper we introduce an
Energy Efficient Location Aided Routing (EELAR) Protocol for MANETs that is
based on the Location Aided Routing (LAR). EELAR makes significant reduction in
the energy consumption of the mobile nodes batteries by limiting the area of
discovering a new route to a smaller zone. Thus, control packets overhead is
significantly reduced. In EELAR a reference wireless base station is used and
the network's circular area centered at the base station is divided into six
equal sub-areas. At route discovery instead of flooding control packets to the
whole network area, they are flooded to only the sub-area of the destination
mobile node. The base station stores locations of the mobile nodes in a
position table. To show the efficiency of the proposed protocol we present
simulations using NS-2. Simulation results show that EELAR protocol makes an
improvement in control packet overhead and delivery ratio compared to AODV,

Study on QoS support in 802.11e-based multi-hop vehicular wireless ad hoc networks
Multimedia communications over vehicular ad hoc networks (VANET) will play an important role in the future intelligent transport system (ITS). QoS support for VANET therefore becomes an essential problem. In this paper, we first study the QoS performance in multi-hop VANET by using the standard IEEE 802.11e EDCA MAC and our proposed triple-constraint QoS routing protocol, Delay-Reliability-Hop (DeReHQ). In particular, we evaluate the DeReHQ protocol together with EDCA in highway and urban areas. Simulation results show that end-to-end delay performance can sometimes be achieved when both 802.11e EDCA and DeReHQ extended AODV are used. However, further studies on cross-layer optimization for QoS support in multi-hop environment are required
