Semantic model-driven development of service-centric software architectures
Service-oriented architecture (SOA) is a recent architectural paradigm that has received much attention. The prevalent focus on platforms such as Web services, however, needs to be complemented by appropriate software engineering methods. We propose the model-driven development of service-centric software systems. We present in particular an investigation into the role of enriched semantic modelling for a modeldriven development framework for service-centric software systems. Knowledge web: realising the semantic web... all the way to knowledge-enhanced multimedia documents
The semantic web and semantic web services are major efforts in order to spread and to integrate knowledge technology to the whole web. The Knowledge Web network of excellence aims at supporting their developments at the best and largest European level and supporting industry in adopting them. It especially investigates the solution of scalability, heterogeneity and dynamics obstacles to the full development of the semantic web. We explain how Knowledge Web results should benefit knowledge-enhanced multimedia applications
Analysing Business Models for Cross Border E-Services Provided by the Chambers of Commerce
The term "Business Model" started to gain momentum in the early rise of the new economy and it is currently used both in business practice and scientific research. Under a general point of view BMs are considered as a contact point among technology, organization and strategy used to describe how an organization gets value from technology and uses it as a source of competitive advantage. Recent contributions suggest to use ontologies to define a shareable conceptualization of BM. The aim of this study is to investigate the role of BM Ontologies as a conceptual tool for the cooperation of subjects interested in achieving a common goal and operating in complex and innovative environments. This is the case for example of those contexts characterized by the deployment of e-services from multiple service providers in cross border environments. Through an extensive literature review on BM we selected the most suitable conceptual tool and studied its application to the LD-CAST project during a participatory action research activity in order to analyse the BM design process of a new organisation based on the cooperation of service providers (the Chambers of Commerce from Italy, Romania, Poland and Bulgaria) with different needs, legal constraints and cultural background.The term "Business Model" started to gain momentum in the early rise of the new economy and it is currently used both in business practice and scientific research. Ontology-based collaborative framework for disaster recovery scenarios
This paper aims at designing of adaptive framework for supporting
collaborative work of different actors in public safety and disaster recovery
missions. In such scenarios, firemen and robots interact to each other to reach
a common goal; firemen team is equipped with smart devices and robots team is
supplied with communication technologies, and should carry on specific tasks.
Here, reliable connection is mandatory to ensure the interaction between
actors. But wireless access network and communication resources are vulnerable
in the event of a sudden unexpected change in the environment. Also, the
continuous change in the mission requirements such as inclusion/exclusion of
new actor, changing the actor's priority and the limitations of smart devices
need to be monitored. To perform dynamically in such case, the presented
framework is based on a generic multi-level modeling approach that ensures
adaptation handled by semantic modeling. Automated self-configuration is driven

Knowledge representation and evaluation an ontology-based knowledge management approach
Competition between Higher Education Institutions is increasing at an alarming rate, while changes of
the surrounding environment and demands of labour market are frequent and substantial. Universities
must meet the requirements of both the national and European legislation environment. The Bologna
Declaration aims at providing guidelines and solutions for these problems and challenges of European
Higher Education. One of its main goals is the introduction of a common framework of transparent and
comparable degrees that ensures the recognition of knowledge and qualifications of citizens all across the
European Union. This paper will discuss a knowledge management approach that highlights the importance
of such knowledge representation tools as ontologies. The discussed ontology-based model supports the
creation of transparent curricula content (Educational Ontology) and the promotion of reliable knowledge
testing (Adaptive Knowledge Testing System)

Enterprise application reuse: Semantic discovery of business grid services
Web services have emerged as a prominent paradigm for the development of distributed software systems as they provide the potential for software to be modularized in a way that functionality can be described, discovered and deployed in a platform independent manner over a network (e.g., intranets, extranets and the Internet). This paper examines an extension of this paradigm to encompass âGrid Servicesâ, which enables software capabilities to be recast with an operational focus and support a heterogeneous mix of business software and data, termed a Business Grid - "the grid of semantic services". The current industrial representation of services is predominantly syntactic however, lacking the fundamental semantic underpinnings required to fulfill the goals of any semantically-oriented Grid. Consequently, the use of semantic technology in support of business software heterogeneity is investigated as a likely tool to support a diverse and distributed software inventory and user. Service discovery architecture is therefore developed that is (a) distributed in form, (2) supports distributed service knowledge and (3) automatically extends service knowledge (as greater descriptive precision is inferred from the operating application system). This discovery engine is used to execute several real-word scenarios in order to develop and test a framework for engineering such grid service knowledge. A Collaborative System Software Solution for Modeling Business Flows Based on Automated Semantic Web Service Composition
Nowadays, business interoperability is one of the key factors for assuring competitive advantage for the participant business partners. In order to implement business cooperation, scalable, distributed and portable collaborative systems have to be implemented. This article presents some of the mostly used technologies in this field. Furthermore, it presents a software application architecture based on Business Process Modeling Notation standard and automated semantic web service coupling for modeling business flow in a collaborative manner. The main business processes will be represented in a single, hierarchic flow diagram. Each element of the diagram will represent calls to semantic web services. The business logic (the business rules and constraints) will be structured with the help of OWL (Ontology Web Language). Legal Ontologies for the spanish e-Government
The Electronic Government is a new field of applications for the semantic web where ontologies are becoming an important research technology. The e-Government faces considerable challenges to achieve interoperability given the semantic differences of interpretation, complexity and width of scope. In this paper we present the results obtained in an ongoing project commissioned by the Spanish government that seeks strategies for the e-Government to reduce the problems encountered when delivering services to citizens. We also introduce an e-Government ontology model; within this model a set of legal ontologies are devoted to representing the Real-estate transaction domain used to illustrate this paper
