    Big Data Evaluation Scorecard

    Get PDF
This study seeks to examine the evolution of issues that have been espoused by both junior and senior scholars to aggregate out of literature, a criterion that can guide firms in evaluating their Big data analytic (BDA) projects. The systematic review approach took stock of varied socio-technical understanding, requirements, and capabilities used in addressing Big data issues and synthesized these issues for value accruals. The study strongly argues that Big data benefits accrue to firms whose economic activities require distributed collaborative effort, operational visibilities, cost, and time-sensitive decisions who adopt and implement the concept in their strategic, tactical, and operational levels. Though the trend shows steady growth in scholars’ interests and expectations in BDA, a significant percentage of the reviewed studies were not informed by any theory. The study contributes to BDA literature by affording scholars issue gaps and for practitioners, an analytical competency and evaluation scorecard that links strategic business goals to operational outcomes

The synergy of IT resources with other organisational resources is important in achieving operational and strategic benefits. The synergistic interaction between IT resources and other organisational resources leads to the emergence of new IT-enabled organisational resources, which are capable of generating significant organisational value. The aim of this paper is to understand how this synergy is realised between IT resources and other organisational resources. Based on a synthesis of relevant literature, we propose six enablers and mechanisms which lead to synergy. To assess the face validity of these enablers and mechanisms, we conducted ten one-hour interviews with Business Analytics (BA) experts. The results assisted us in refining and contextualising the enablers and mechanisms for BA systems and led to a clear and comprehensive definition of synergy. The paper concludes with suggestions for empirical research to further refine our definition of synergy

    Get PDF
Organisations invest in Business analytics (BA) systems to improve firm performance and gain competitive advantage. BA systems use advanced analytical tools and techniques to analyse organisational data and generate insights. Decision makers at different levels of the organisations leverage the insights and take competitive actions. In this paper, we utilise Resource-based View (RBV) and business value of IT literature to develop a research model to explain the firm performance impacts of BA systems in customer relations. The research model proposes that BA capability creates informational benefits in customer relations using two pathways: (1) Direct creation of informational benefits, and (2) Indirect creation of informational benefits through developing higher-order Analytical CRM capability. Informational benefits once created, contribute to superior firm performance. The research model is evaluated using survey data in Large US-based organisations

While IS success research has gained considerable attention within academia in the past, understanding its constitunts and the relationships among them has also emerged within professional fields. Since extant inquiries on the relationships among IS success dimensions have produced equivocal findings, the need to address IS success in the context of specific technologies has been regularly highlighted. Within business intelligence (BI) field one such pervasive technology gaining considerable attention is mobile BI (m-BI). \ \ Despite the recognized valu that m-BI brings to firms, our understanding of the success of m-BI is limited. To address this gap, we conducted a quantitative study of key informants using m-BI, employing multiple data collection methods to understand what the key m-BI capabilities are and other success dimensions being perceived as important by users, and how they can be assessed. \ \ Our contribution to the BI and IT business valu literature is twofold. First, our results highlight the users´ perceptions about m-BI capabilities that are deemed important for increasing satisfaction with m-BI and its use. Second, while these capabilities have a relatively high explanatory power for user satisfaction, their power to explain m-BI use is found to be rather low, suggesting there are other unobserved organizational characteristics importantly affecting m-BI usage behaviour, thus calling for further investigation
