A Review of Platforms for the Development of Agent Systems
Agent-based computing is an active field of research with the goal of
building autonomous software of hardware entities. This task is often
facilitated by the use of dedicated, specialized frameworks. For almost thirty
years, many such agent platforms have been developed. Meanwhile, some of them
have been abandoned, others continue their development and new platforms are
released. This paper presents a up-to-date review of the existing agent
platforms and also a historical perspective of this domain. It aims to serve as
a reference point for people interested in developing agent systems. This work
details the main characteristics of the included agent platforms, together with
links to specific projects where they have been used. It distinguishes between
the active platforms and those no longer under development or with unclear
status. It also classifies the agent platforms as general purpose ones, free or
commercial, and specialized ones, which can be used for particular types of

Agents for educational games and simulations
This book consists mainly of revised papers that were presented at the Agents for Educational Games and Simulation (AEGS) workshop held on May 2, 2011, as part of the Autonomous Agents and MultiAgent Systems (AAMAS) conference in Taipei, Taiwan. The 12 full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from various submissions. Werewolves, cheats, and cultural sensitivity
This paper discusses the design and evaluation of the system MIXER (Moderating Interactions for Cross-Cultural Empathic Relationships), which applies a novel approach to the education of children in cultural sensitivity. MIXER incorporates intelligent affective and interactive characters, including a model of a Theory of Mind mechanism, in a simulated virtual world. We discuss the relevant pedagogical approaches, related work, the underlying mind model used for MIXER agents as well as its innovative interaction interface utilising a tablet computer and a pictorial interaction language. We then consider the evaluation of the system, whether this shows it met its pedagogical objectives, and what can be learned from our results.</p
Multi Agent Systems
Research on multi-agent systems is enlarging our future technical capabilities as humans and as an intelligent society. During recent years many effective applications have been implemented and are part of our daily life. These applications have agent-based models and methods as an important ingredient. Markets, finance world, robotics, medical technology, social negotiation, video games, big-data science, etc. are some of the branches where the knowledge gained through multi-agent simulations is necessary and where new software engineering tools are continuously created and tested in order to reach an effective technology transfer to impact our lives. This book brings together researchers working in several fields that cover the techniques, the challenges and the applications of multi-agent systems in a wide variety of aspects related to learning algorithms for different devices such as vehicles, robots and drones, computational optimization to reach a more efficient energy distribution in power grids and the use of social networks and decision strategies applied to the smart learning and education environments in emergent countries. Living Innovation Laboratory Model Design and Implementation
Living Innovation Laboratory (LIL) is an open and recyclable way for
multidisciplinary researchers to remote control resources and co-develop user
centered projects. In the past few years, there were several papers about LIL
published and trying to discuss and define the model and architecture of LIL.
People all acknowledge about the three characteristics of LIL: user centered,
co-creation, and context aware, which make it distinguished from test platform
and other innovation approaches. Its existing model consists of five phases:
initialization, preparation, formation, development, and evaluation.
Goal Net is a goal-oriented methodology to formularize a progress. In this
thesis, Goal Net is adopted to subtract a detailed and systemic methodology for
LIL. LIL Goal Net Model breaks the five phases of LIL into more detailed steps.
Big data, crowd sourcing, crowd funding and crowd testing take place in
suitable steps to realize UUI, MCC and PCA throughout the innovation process in
LIL 2.0. It would become a guideline for any company or organization to develop
a project in the form of an LIL 2.0 project.
To prove the feasibility of LIL Goal Net Model, it was applied to two real
cases. One project is a Kinect game and the other one is an Internet product.
They were both transformed to LIL 2.0 successfully, based on LIL goal net based
methodology. The two projects were evaluated by phenomenography, which was a
qualitative research method to study human experiences and their relations in
hope of finding the better way to improve human experiences. Through
phenomenographic study, the positive evaluation results showed that the new
generation of LIL had more advantages in terms of effectiveness and efficiency.Comment: This is a book draf
