The aims and objectives of OCRIS were to: • Survey the extent to which repository content is in scope for institutional library OPACs, and the extent to which it is already recorded there; • Examine the interoperability of OPAC and repository software for the exchange of metadata and other information; • List the various services to institutional managers, researchers, teachers and learners offered respectively by OPACs and repositories; • Identify the potential for improvements in the links (e.g. using link resolver technology) from repositories and/or OPACs to other institutional services, such as finance or research administration; • Make recommendations for the development of possible further links between library OPACs and institutional repositories, identifying the benefits to relevant stakeholder groups

Is rated debt arm's length? : evidence from mergers and acquisitions

In this paper we challenge the view that corporate bonds are always arm’s length debt. We analyze the effect of bond ratings on the stock price return to acquirers in M&A transactions, which tend to have significant effects on creditor wealth. We find acquirers abnormal returns to be higher if they are unrated, controlling for a wide variety of other effects identified in the literature. Tracing the difference in returns to distinct managerial decisions, we find that, everything else constant, rated firms increase their leverage in takeover transactions by less than their unrated counterparts. Consistent with a significant role for rating agencies, we find monitoring effects to be strongest when acquirer bonds are rated at the borderline between investment grade and junk. Finally, we are able to empirically exclude a large number of alternative explanations for the empirical regularities that we uncover. The Renegade Library

    Get PDF
" This box is the residue of mail art activity during the years 1996-1998. In keeping with the project theme, all of the items meet two criteria: the creators identified them as "books" ; and, their creation was enabled by some kind of "collaborative" process. Each book item is labeled with a catalogue number that corresponds to information about it in the box's index, as well as in the original exhibition catalogue. The twenty boxes making up this edition of Renegade Library include the items of the original exhibitions that survived its years as a mail art lending library (1998 to about 2002), and additional items that were contributed immediately following the exhibition. These boxes are being located in publicly accessible collections of artists books throughout Canada and other countries. " -- Lois Klassen, accompanying documentation

Culture and e-commerce: An exploration of the perceptions and attitudes of Egyptian internet users

    Get PDF
This paper examines the perceptions and attitudes that Egyptian users hold towards electronic shopping sites. Internet sites are globally available, opening up huge potential markets for online retailers. However, it remains unclear whether sites designed for the US or European markets will be acceptable in other cultures. This paper describes an exploratory card sorting study conducted with Egyptian consumers. The study was designed to examine the e-commerce interface features that are most salient to this user group and to explore how these relate to user intentions to engage in internet shopping. The results support the role of site familiarity in predicting purchase intentions within this cultural setting
