Designing a Blockchain Model for the Paris Agreementâs Carbon Market Mechanism
This paper examines the benefits and constraints of applying blockchain technology for the Paris Agreement carbon market mechanism and develops a list of technical requirements and soft factors as selection criteria to test the feasibility of two different blockchain platforms. The carbon market mechanism, as outlined in Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement, can accelerate climate action by enabling cooperation between national Parties. However, in the past, carbon markets were limited by several constraints. Our research investigates these constraints and translates them into selection criteria to design a blockchain platform to overcome these past limitations. The developed selection criteria and assumptions developed in this paper provide an orientation for blockchain assessments. Using the selection criteria, we examine the feasibility of two distinct blockchains, Ethereum and Hyperledger Fabric, for the specific use case of Article 6.2. These two blockchain systems represent contrary forms of design and governance; Ethereum constitutes a public and permissionless blockchain governance system, while Hyperledger Fabric represents a private and permissioned governance system. Our results show that both blockchain systems can address present carbon market constraints by enhancing market transparency, increasing process automation, and preventing double counting. The final selection and blockchain system implementation will first be possible, when the Article 6 negotiations are concluded, and governance preferences of national Parties are established. Our paper informs about the viability of different blockchain systems, offers insights into governance options, and provides a valuable framework for a concrete blockchain selection in the future.DFG, 414044773, Open Access Publizieren 2019 - 2020 / Technische UniversitÀt Berli
Integration of blockchains with management information systems
In the era of the fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0), many Management Information Systems (MIS) integrate real-time data collection and use technologies such as big data, machine learning, and cloud computing, to foster a wide range of creative innovations, business improvements, and new business models and processes. However, the integration of blockchain with MIS offers the blockchain trilemma of security, decentralisation and scalability. MIS are usually Web 2.0 clientserver applications that include the front end web systems and back end databases; while blockchain systems are Web 3.0 decentralised applications. MIS are usually private systems that a single party controls and manages; while blockchain systems are usually public, and any party can join and participate. This paper clariïŹes the key concepts and illustrates with ïŹgures, the implementation of public, private and consortium blockchains on the Ethereum platform. Ultimately, the paper presents a framework for building a private blockchain system on the public Ethereum blockchain. Then, integrating the Web 2.0 client-server applications that are commonly used in MIS with Web 3.0 decentralised blockchain applications
GALACTICOIN: A new revenue stream for Real Madrid based on blockchain technology
White paper.SUMMARY: Football is indeed a beautiful game, and its appeal is unrivaled. This industry continues its pace as one of the fastest markets in the world and during the last years, the way clubs interact and engage with the fans has changed significantly due to digital transformation (KPMG, 2018a, pp.3), and the behavior of the new millennial generation. Likewise, fans and football supporters are looking to connect with their clubs and players, thatâs why the participation on social media networks has increased, as well as the use of different technologies to enhance a better and personalized customer experience.
Considering Real Madrid, as one of the leaders in the industry and the most valuable in terms of digital, how the club will face the fast development of technology to create a closer bonding with the upcoming generations? The current report is structured within five parts to provide an exciting project proposal that might boost the clubâs potential, finding a solution to reach this challenging target market.
The first part focuses on the situation analysis of the football industry and key industry trends plus an overall overview about Real Madrid (revenue, brand value, fans, digital strategy) introducing a current challenge the club is facing: Santiago BernabĂ©u renovation. Based on Real Madridâs stadium case, the second part states the objectives and strategic planning to find a solution for the club through a new revenue stream based on a disruptive technology: the blockchain.
For instance, the third part explains this technology and its advantages through a real example. Then, the report introduces the concept that the current project proposes: the GalĂĄcticoin for Real Madrid. The idea will be explained in detail, with all its benefits, timeline and the expected revenues.
Finally, the document presents the conclusions based on a finance, brand value and fans perspective, according to the project objectives; the team chart description, advisors and references consulted
Blockchain for social good: a quantitative analysis
The rise of blockchain technologies has given a boost to social good
projects, which are trying to exploit various characteristic features of
blockchains: the quick and inexpensive transfer of cryptocurrency, the
transparency of transactions, the ability to tokenize any kind of assets, and
the increase in trustworthiness due to decentralization. However, the swift
pace of innovation in blockchain technologies, and the hype that has surrounded
their "disruptive potential", make it difficult to understand whether these
technologies are applied correctly, and what one should expect when trying to
apply them to social good projects. This paper addresses these issues, by
systematically analysing a collection of 120 blockchain-enabled social good
projects. Focussing on measurable and objective aspects, we try to answer
various relevant questions: which features of blockchains are most commonly
used? Do projects have success in fund raising? Are they making appropriate
choices on the blockchain architecture? How many projects are released to the
public, and how many are eventually abandoned?Comment: In GOODTECHS 201
